So what's next?

Now that I've finally finished reading/reviewing REBELS, I am officially, 100% caught up with my pile of new comic books! Well, that's not altogether true, New Avengers #55 arrived in the mail today, but I just don't have the patience to wade through the sucktitude that is BENDIS' Avengers. After a good night sleep, I'll surrender myself to the torture that is the New Avengers. And before anybody asks, "Well, if you hate it so much why the hell are you still reading it?!?", the answer is I've been a fan of the Avengers for as long as I've been collecting comic books, and no matter how hideously BENDIS mutates the team, I feel obligated to read each awful issue. Kind of like the Watcher, except I can bitch about each issue here on my blog! The Watcher doesn't have that luxury... Although if he did, the Watcher's blog would be the greatest thing EVER! Imagine all the stuff he could blog about? "Today, I saw Joe Quesada digging through Geoff Johns' garbage looking for story ideas, Bruce Wayne chiseling showtunes onto a cave wall and X-Man75 sobbing uncontrollably at the prospect of reading New Avengers #55"-Posted by Uatu The Watcher at 12:30AM. I'm sorry, I've been awake for like 21 hours straight and when I don't sleep, I start getting really weird...

In other comic book related news, I'm waiting on a couple of different shipments of comic books. What's in those shipments? I'm glad you asked, here's a list!

Besides those books, I ordered the Batman: Year One trade and the Crisis on Infinite Earths trade off of Amazon. I figured it was about time for me to check out both of those trades. I've heard mainly good things about the Batman trade, and very mixed things about Crisis. Some people seem to consider Crisis one of the greatest comic book stories EVER, while others call it rubbish. I'd love to hear some opinions from anybody who has actually given these two books a read. Are they must read, or should I forget I ever ordered them? Well, I think that's enough aimless babbling for tonight. Tomorrow I'll have that review for New Avengers #55 up. Unless it drives me insane, then I'll probably be locked up in an asylum somewhere. Either way, thanks for reading!

  1. Yeah, if the Watcher had a blog, I'd be a big fan!

Without a doubt, Crisis on Infinite Earths is a landmark event, but it's dated. And it reads like it's dated. The first six issues of the maxiseries are pretty boring, but the second six are great, in my opinion. That's when Barry Allen makes that ultimate sacrifice and when the Spectre finally comes into play. Overall, however, I have to say that the original "Crisis" is my least favorite in the so-called "Crisis" trilogy. Yeah, I even liked Final Crisis better than the original.

  2. I, for one, am looking forward to your New Avengers #55 review. It will be nice to see that someone else went through the pain of reading it as I did.

  3. "Today, I saw Joe Quesada digging through Geoff Johns' garbage looking for story ideas"- that line was hillarious.

Yeah Batman Year One is a good read, but I think its also very overated. Some people rate it as one of the best batman graphics of all time, which i dont agree with. I hate all thos lists anyway, I prefer to make my own mind up on what I read, and I recognise from your reviews that you do too.
The first crisis I havent read, but I've been meaning too. But Im not a fan of the multiple earth thing and the flashes etc so prob best I stay clear. I hated Infinte Crisis even though johns wrote it and final crisis was not for me either. Still I look forw to your thoughts on it. I havent forgotten to do a review of Robin 3000 yet. I, like yourself, have so much to read at the moment. Its in two parts and Ive read book one. Ill post a review once Ive finished book two.

  4. First off, thanks for the comments guys, much appreciated!

Robert-Yeah, that's the thing I hear about the original Crisis story, that it is indeed dated. The fact that you say it's worse than Final Crisis kind of scares me, because the final issue of FC was(to this day)one of the strangest/confusing comics I have EVER read!

Warrior-The very thought of reading NA #55 makes my brain hurt...

Matthew-I really wasn't blown away by Frank Miller's "Dark Knight Returns" mini, which many people seem to think was perfect. I liked it, but it didn't wow me. I figure Year One will probably leave me feeling the same way. I gotta agree with you on Infinite Crisis, although it was better than Final Crisis, it didn't really do much for me. I wanted to read Ininite Earths out of curiousity though. I probably won't love it, but I figure I should give it a read. Before I forget, I'll probably begin "Wanted" tonight, which is something I have been looking forward to.

  5. Hey X-Man, I finally got internet at my place, so now I can offer my fractured and absolutely unqualified opinions on every one of your postings!

I see you decided to try the Kingdom. Make sure you read #1, then all the one-shots, and then#2.
I think you'll get more from the story that way.

You'll have to let me know how you like em though, I think the Kingdom: Offspring issue is a great example of what a one-shot should be. It offers just enough background about the character and offers some good characterizations and touching moments.

I think the watcher would probably like twitter more than blogging though...

  6. Alright Kello! You know I look forward to hearing those fractured and unqualified opinions! Yeah, once I found out there was a follow-up of sorts to Kingdom Come(thanks to you!)I had to read 'em.

I can't see why the Watcher can't do both actually. The guy has vast cosmic powers, so I could easily see him keeping a blog and tweeting(God do I HATE that word!!!). I've got to start up a blog for the Watcher one day...
