Daylight Savings......

Huh, I totally forgot today was the day the clocks go back an hour... That means I get an extra hour of sleep!!! More sleep always makes me a very happy camper! Unfortunately, the hour change screwed up the order of my posts...

Final Crisis:Revelations #1

Overall- Wow, umm, I'm lost here... I don't really know what was going on here at all. I mean even a little. Why was the Question working with those weird zealots? How was Libra able to defeat the Spectre, who killed the wizard Shazam, with such ease?

I guess all these questions will be revealed in the upcoming issues of this series, or so I hope... Anyway, even with all the confusing parts, watching Dr. Light die made me pretty happy. Dr. Light richly deserved the fate he was given, I've detested him since Identity Crisis, and it was satisfying to watch him burn. That might sound a bit harsh, but the guy was an animal! Other then Light's death, the rest of this comic didn't do much for me. As a score, I'd give this comic a 5 out of 10, and most of that score is just based on the death of Dr. Light.

Final Crisis:Revelations #3

Overall- OK, I'm not sure how Cain ties into Darkseid, neither is the Question who states as much, but Darkseid's minions seem to tolerate, if not obey Cain. That really puzzles me...

Anywho, this story deals with the Spectre, who has had his faith in God shattered by his inability to do anything to stop Darkseid's anti-life horde. Radiant is also beginning to doubt her own religious convictions. The Question? I'm not really sure why she's here... She's kind of along for the ride.

Anyway, Cain makes his way to the church the three main characters are hiding in and demands to battle Spectre, lest Cain kills all the people hiding within it's walls. The Spectre confronts Cain, but the battle ends poorly for the Spectre, as he is impaled with Cain's spear.

Overall, I think this series is starting to grow on me, although why Darkseid's minions were obeying Cain was puzzling. That made no sense. As for a score, I'll give this a 5 1/2 out of 10.

She-Hulk # 34

Overall- I didn't really like this comic... Now, as I've said multiple times, Peter David is one of my favorite writers. That fact aside, this comic really rubbed me the wrong way. The story here is that there was an earthquake in some country led by a cruel dictator.

The dictator, Darqon, won't allow the foreign aid his country has received to help the people, instead, claiming the quake was God's will, while pocketing all the foreign aid. The U.N. can't do anything, because China and Russia are politically friendly with Darqon.

So, She-Hulk decides to gather the Lady Liberators and go into the country to forcefully hand out the aid packages to the people effected by the earthquake. Darqon, upon learning that his country was under attack by foreign super-heroes calls Russia for help, and Russia sends the Winter Guard, Russia's government sponsored super team, to defend Darqon against the Liberators.

Now, my main gripe with this story was that it, and She-Hulk were WAY to preachy for me. David was obviously trying to tie this story into some modern day political events... The name of the made up country in the comic was Marinmer... Sound remotely familiar to a certain Southeast Asian country that also has a "president for life"? It should.

Anyway, I like to use comic books as a form of escapism. That's just me. This comic at times felt like it trying to make a political statement, as opposed to telling a good story. That bothered me. I'd prefer any political messages to stay in the editorial pages of the newspapers... Unless it's Oliver Queen making the statement, he always cracks me up. As for a score, I guess I'd give this comic a 2 1/2 out of 10. The sooner this storyline is over, the better.

DC vs. Mortal Kombat???

Just wondering if there is any interest in this game out there... Gamestop.com just sent me a coupon for free overnight shipping if I order the game by 11-10-08. I've seen some screen shots of the game, but I would have preferred a game with only DC Characters duking it out. I honestly WANT to buy this game, but it really doesn't look as great as I would have hoped it would have... 60$ is a tough pill to swallow for a game I might not even like... Then again, I could play as Deathstroke the Terminator!!! It's hard to ever turn down a game where Deathstroke is a playable character... AARRRGGGHHH!!!! Don't know what to do... If anyone has any reasons to buy or not buy this game, I'd happily hear them.

Joker, crazy as usual...

There are a lot of great things happening in this picture, starting with the fact that the Joker is just driving down the freeway in California, WITHOUT tinted windows! On top of that, I loved the way he was so nonchalant about possibly hallucinating. I guess it says a lot about you when you just aren't bothered by some pesky hallucinations anymore!

Birds of Prey #123

Overall- Oh baby! I've been waiting all month for this one! I can't wait for the confrontation between Babs and the Joker! Enough talk, I should shut up and read it already!

The initial confrontation between the Joker and Babs was a slight let down, because Joker had no clue as to WHO she was. Considering how many people Joker's killed, that really didn't surprise me. As much as I would have loved to see Babs beat the hell out of the Joker from her chair, the scene played out in the most sensible way possible, with Babs just calmly answering Joker's questions in a way that would cause him to look elsewhere.

Knowing that Joker is involved, Babs has to turn to her one time nemesis, the Calculator, for help. Calculator is hesitant, but agrees to Babs plans. Babs also tricks Calculator into thinking that Oracle is actually Infinity.

Calculator arranges a meeting where he will "deliver" the Birds of Prey to the Silicon Syndicate, but is actually planning to trap the Syndicate for the Birds. Meanwhile, the Syndicate decides to call all available resources into the airport to meet the Calculator and his "captive" Birds.

Unfortunately, the Joker finally realizes that it was Barbara Gordon he ran into earlier, and decided he wanted to go back to her location, so he can send her head back home to Gotham... Oh man! Not another cliffhanger with Babs and the Joker! The wait last month was almost more then I could take! This time it will be even worse!

This issue was very good. I liked the background on the scummy Syndicate, as well as the stuff with Joker. Another MAJOR plus was that Misfit was relegated to the background and only spoke 2 letters! If that happened every issue, I'd be overjoyed! This issue, based on that last fact as well as everything else gets a 7 1/2 out of 10

Final Crisis:Submit

Overall- This is the issue I SHOULD have read before I read Final Crisis #4... Gee, thanks for THAT heads up DC... Well, with that unpleasantness out of the way, I can get into this comic.

This comic was OK, except for the fact that the Tattooed Man I knew was some scrawny white guy the Outsiders beat up in prison once, not a big black guy... Aren't there better names to take if you are a super-villain than "Tattooed Man"? I mean, do we as a society really need a gluttony of villains going by the same lame name??? I must be tired, I'm making less sense then usual...

In this comic, Black Lightning braved attacks from Darkseid's justifiers, to retrieve someone from the Hall of Justice and ran across the Tattooed Man and family. After some initial misgivings, Tats decides to help take up BL's mission after watching the justifiers place the brainwashing helmet atop BL's head.

The story was a nice one of a good man(Black Lightning) managing to convince a not so good man(Tattooed Man) that whatever differences they had in the past had become irrelevant now that Darkseid was destroying reality. I couldn't find too much to complain about here, except for the ridiculous order DC released these comics... Reading FC#4 first ruined the end of this story, because I knew that BL was going to be brainwashed, and the Tattooed Man was going to join with the Justice League... For the story alone, I'd give it a 6 out of 10.
