Thief of Thieves #3

One more comic review and this week is complete... And that review? The third issue of Thief of Thieves. This is a series that is moving along at a snail's pace... It's not awful or anything, it's just moving sooooo slooooow... Maybe things will heat up here... Hopefully?

Thief of Thieves #3:

Summary: This issue opens with an FBI agent named Elizabeth Cohen meeting with Redmond to drop the fact that Redmond's son had been arrested by the FBI. It seems that Cohen has been after Redmond for years(and has failed spectacularly) and this turn of events has her feeling a bit smug. Redmond isn't pleased to learn of this fact. From there, Cohen gets yelled at by her superior since Cohen was supposed to keep away from Redmond due to that previous “failed spectacularly” moment. This one ends with Cohen heading to jail to meet with Redmond's son.

Thoughts: Um... Yeah. This issue happened alright... I really don't have anything to say here... Yes, I know how odd that must sound... I mean here I am, somebody who has posted over 2,500 posts to this blog, as well as a few hundred posts to others. Somebody who has commented thousands of times on all things comic books, and yet I have nothing to say about this issue. It just sort of happened. I didn't hate it, I didn't love it, it wasn't boring, it wasn't interesting. It just was... I could go on, but really, what's the sense? I wouldn't recommend this issue, but I wouldn't NOT recommend it either...

Score: 6 1/2 out of 10.

Thief of Thieves #2

First comic that I'll be flying through today is the second issue of the Thief of Thieves series. Like I said last issue, the writers for this one(Robert Kirkman and Nick Spencer) are top of the line, but the first issue just didn't do anything for me... Let's hope business picks up with this one.

Thief of Thieves #2:

Summary: Redmond is still insisting that he's retired, which is still pissing off/shocking Celia. From there Redmond heads to a restaurant and meets with his ex-wife. Redmond tells her that he had quit being a thief, which angers his ex, since she had wanted Redmond to quit that life years ago, but he couldn't let go. Redmond's ex makes it clear that they had no shot at reconciliation, but she does tell him to tell his son that he had gotten out of the life.

Thoughts: Yeah, there was some flashback stuff involving Redmond and his ex-wife, like how they got together and stuff, but it didn't seem important enough to put in the summary. Anyway, once again, like the prior issue, this issue just didn't produce for me. We're getting little bits and pieces of Redmond's(and other character's) history, but what I've read thus far really isn't all that interesting. So Redmond stopped being a thief. And he has an ex-wife. And a son. It's just not grabbing me yet. Oh well, here's hoping that changes come the next issue.

Score: 6 out of 10.

This is the part of the movie where the sad music would play right before the scene shifted.

Thief of Thieves #1

And now for something completely different! Here's a comic from Image that I know NOTHING about, save for the fact that it's a story by Robert Kirkman and is written by Nick Spencer... When I saw writers that good working together on the same comic, I could care less WHAT it was about, I just knew I wanted to read it. Now, let's see how my blind faith in those two gentlemen pay off for me.

Thief of Thieves #1:

Summary: In this comic we meet a thief named Redmond. It seems he's a fantastic thief, one of the best. We also meet Celia. Celia and Redmond met while Celia was trying to steal Redmond's car. Redmond takes pity on her and ends up teaching her how to properly steal a car. Redmond eventually takes Celia under his wing as his apprentice/assistant. From there we learn that Redmond had been trying to put together some sort of heist in Venice, a heist that he had other thieves invest in. This issue ends with Redmond telling the other thieves that he was quitting.

Thoughts: Huh, this was actually kind of boring... We met a few characters in rapid fire fashion, we saw a quick job with Redmond and Celia, and Redmond quit. That was pretty much it. I guess Redmond is lying about quitting and doesn't want to cut the other thieves in on his score in Venice(which we have no idea as to what's being stolen/done), but who really knows. As I stated in the open, I expect huge things from the guys responsible for this comic, so I'll definitely be sticking around. Here's hoping we get a bit deeper into things and do less skipping around next issue.

Score: 6 out of 10.

Awesome, tips for stealing a car!
