Hey there X-Maniacs, tis your loyal servant X with a quick post. I'm going to try a new type of post tonight, so we'll see how it goes. See, I really don't have the time to do a lot of review type posts until the latter part of the week, because I'm usually buried with homework Monday through Thursday. So instead of doing a bunch of reviews, I'm just going to list a topic, and let you guys, my most loyal and wonderful X-Maniacs, Nerds of Prey and LoL's give this post life. I'll pick the topic, give my thoughts, and then throw the floor open to you guys. So if you want to put your two cents in, please feel free to do so. There are no right or wrong answers here, this is just to create some conversation. All right? All right then!
So what's the first topic? How about an easy one... I've made no bones about the fact that I hated the way Blackest Night ended. It started with such promise, and instead of ending with a bang, it ended with a whimper. One of the things that really bugged me about the way Blackest Night ended was the characters that were(and weren't)brought back to life. So here's your mission, should you choose to accept it... Which character who returned to life at the end of Blackest Night do you think should have stayed dead, and conversely, which character do you think DC should have brought back but didn't? Here's my picks... I say Reverse Flash should have stayed dead, since as a time traveler he could have just come back to menace Barry Allen from before he was killed. Time travel is funny like that. As for the character I think DC should have brought back to life but didn't, I'm going to go with Damage. He was a young character with a chip on his shoulder who, I think anyway, had some serious untapped potential. So there you go, those are my picks, what do you guys think?

Thanks for mentioning how I pretty much gave ya this topic... oh wait you DIDN'T!!! Lol kiddding, I'd say, leave Reverse Flash dead and bring back Ted Kord, but since some think he's still alive somehow from events in Booster Gold I'd say bring back Tempest who also had a ton of potential, especially with Arthur back.
ReplyDeleteSecond picks would be leave old Boomer dead and bring back Owen.
Whoops! I SWEAR I meant to mention the fact that we were discussing this topic JT! REALLY!!! Oh well, I'll say it now then... ME AND JT WERE DISCUSSING THIS VERY TOPIC ON A DIFFERENT POST! There, I even capped the whole thing so people would know! :P
ReplyDeleteHmm, I like Ted, but I'm not sure where you'd slot him in. I guess he could co-star in Booster's comic. And yeah, for me it was either Damage or Tempest.
As for old Boomer, I don't know JT... The more I think about it, the more I kind of want to see him run into Tim, considering it was old Boomer who killed Jack Drake... I mean, old Boomer is pretty much worthless, but a meeting with Red Robin might have some legs to it. Yeah, Owen is another character who was cut off at the knees if you ask me... There's yet another young character with tons of potential(hell, he's Bart's half-brother!!!). I'd have loved to see Bart and Boomer get together and have some interactions. Alas, that doesn't seem in the cards...
Lmao well thanks for clearing it up :P Especially in caps, so now EVERYONE knows :P
ReplyDeleteI'd like to see him join Booster's comic, he could appear in Birds of Prey, maybe be the leader The Teen Titans desperately need in some type of capacity.
Ah good point indeed. I'm just upset the whole thing with Owen and Bart was never addressed with them being related. But yeah I never thought about Boomer and Tim running into each other.
Fat well skinny Captain Boomerang should've stayed dead, umm lets see, Deadman should've stayed dead. That suckers not doing anything worth while. He was better off dead.
ReplyDeleteHa just read X comment about Captain Boom Boom Rang, lol yeah that's what I'm calling him. Yeaaah I guess I want to see him and Tim interact also I'm kind of liking his role in Flash. Although that's the slowest coming of all time. Lol.
slowest comic**
ReplyDeleteI don't want Captain Spell Check coming for me. Lol.
Captain Spellcheck vs. Captain Boom Boom Rang! The Nerds of Prey vs. The Dastardly Rogues!I'd read it.
ReplyDeleteCaptain Boom Boom Rang will take you down!
ReplyDeleteHmm, I kind of like the idea of Ted in the BoP again. I´d take him over Hawk any day.
ReplyDeleteI can't disagree with the Deadman thing... I mean come on, his whole gimmick was the fact that he's DEAD!!! That would be like calling Captain America the Caped Crusader... It just doesn´t make sense!!!
Captain Spell Check??? Hmm... I like it!!! JT, you've got yourself a new nickname! :D
We agree! I just read the Super Buddies stuff the last few days (Formerly known as the Justice League and I can't believe it's not the Justice League)and I miss Ted even more. I also love that that's where Booster stopped being an idiot all the time. I really miss Ted, as well as Ralph and Sue more now.
ReplyDeleteBut he doesn't have a cape...AH I get it!!! Lol kidding, kidding.
I'll take it! So whats that like six nicknames now? The KING of nicknames!!! Make that 7..
Leave Hawk dead and bring back Elongated Man.

ReplyDeleteOh and Deadman should have stayed dead, but if DC kills him in Brightest Day it wont be so bad.

ReplyDeleteIt's a huge problems with comics in general - shock events, like deaths, rebirths, the Juggernaut not (totally did (didn't (did))) sleeping with She-Hulk - it's all become a bit stale and boring. Instead of concentrating on the first two, concentrate more on things like the last un. Uncharacterful or not, it's more interesting and provides more story than people always dying. Save the deaths for a few years, let each book have it's 'status quo' of characters it uses, and just tell stories.
ReplyDeleteBut that's jus my view...
Oh, and I can't say anything about either Boomer, as I jus don't care for em, the Rogues in general or the Flash. But hey, you should know this about me already ;)
Hey, you know, I'd be fine with bringing Elongated Man and Sue back to life. And yeah Jozeph, I'd be perfectly content if Deadman was re-killed off after Brightest Day ended. I just don't see him having much to do alive(then again, I don't see much for him to do dead either!). No Deadman would be no problem for me! :P
ReplyDeleteIsn't reading those minis a jarring experience JT?! It's SO weird seeing Max Lord as a normal, dare I say funny character, as opposed to the anti-Christ! Good Max was pretty funny!
Hey Nagash, I totally agree with you! Whenever there's a "big" comic event(which is like once a year it seems), you KNOW somebody is going to get killed off. You name the event, and I'm sure you can pick out at least one character who ended up dying during it. That's SUCH lazy writing if you ask me. A good writer can evoke emotion from readers without resorting to a bunch of deaths. That's reason number one why I can't stand the way Christopher Yost writes. He pretty much has to kill a character off literally EVERY story arc because he's not a good enough writer to produce an emotional story without resorting to countless deaths. Whew, rant over!
Seeing as Deadman's whole schtick is that he's, you know, dead...yeah, maybe he should have stayed that way. What are they doing with the character now that he's alive?
ReplyDeleteAlso, is Captain Atom still alive? I haven't heard anything about him in a long time, so I wasn't sure. If not, they should have brought him back!
Right? It was so weird seeing him as a nice guy. He was fun too, and it was weird seeing him talk to Ted. Even moreso when his evil Doppleganger was gonna shoot him. Oh the irony.
ReplyDeleteI originally posted something this morning, but Blogger was giving me trouble....
ReplyDeleteI don't see why Hawkman and Hawkgirl have to come back. They fulfilled their destinies, fell in love, and died. They're due to be resurrected again anyway.
And just for fun I thought it would be neat for Tommy Monaghan, the old 90s character known as Hitman, to get resurrected. Since he didn't have anything to do with BN, he would have reappeared in the white mist with the other heroes and been like WTF?
Totally agreed on the Deadman thing Marc. I just don't get WHY DC felt the need to bring DEADman to life... That's a definite head scratcher... Yeah, Capt. Atom is alive. He was in the Second Feature in Action Comics(or maybe it was Superman)for a while, and then I think he had a cup of coffee with the new Justice League. He might still actually be there, who knows!
ReplyDelete"it was weird seeing him talk to Ted." Wasn't it JT?! Whenever they'd be on the same page talking, I'd be like, "Look out Ted!!!"... Well, not literally... Okay, sometimes I did yell that out, but not often...
Good point on the Hawks, Kello. They're kind of like Reverse Flash. They could have just been brought back at any time in the future, no questions asked. I actually have a few Hitman comics(by Garth Ennis I believe)laying around here somewhere! I've never gotten around to reading them, but one day I guess... You know, it would have been funny if Geoff did just bring back a completely random character instead of all of his favorites.
Lol, The idea of you telling that makes me laugh because I swear I was thinking it. I kept thinking he'd have a hidden agenda. And him punching like a sissy was great... I loved that they kept mentioning that. Whatever happened to L-Ron?
ReplyDeleteI... really agree with you guys about the Hawks. Couldn't Ralph and Sue have come back instead since the Hawks ALWAYS come back?
I honestly don't know what happened to L-Ron JT... I really don't... My guess is that Max shot him on the head, had him cremated, and then L-Ron somehow came back as an evil Black Lantern Robot Zombie during Blackest Night. Hey, I could be right!
ReplyDeleteI'd personally take Damage and Tempest/Boomer over Ralph and Sue actually. Give me two younger characters with potential as opposed to two members of the old guard. But yeah, the Hawks had like ZERO reason for coming back.
Lmao @ Max shooting him in the head. I bet he made him into that stylish Gold watch he's always wearing.
ReplyDeleteI agree, in terms of Tempest and Damage, but if they wanted a couple to bring back I'd say Ralph and Sue. But yeah. Damage especially and Tempest had a ton of potential.
HA!!! I love the idea that EVIL Max turned L-Ron into his gold watch! That man is PURE EVIL!!!
ReplyDeleteYeah, couple-wise, Ralph and Sue would have made more sense then the Hawks, but to be honest, what do you do with Ralph and Sue if you bring them back? Stick 'em back on the JLA? No offense to their fans, but with the exception of the Identity Crisis stuff they both seemed like REALLY bland characters. I kind of think it would have been more interesting if you only brought one of them back, but not the other. But even that seems kind of boring...
I looked him up out of curiosity because I wished he WAS a watch lol. "Afterwards L-Ron disappeared into a comics limbo of sorts. Recently he has been seen working with a team of supervillains known as the Robot Renegades. His motives for working with the villains is yet unknown, though he does assist the Metal Men in fighting the Death Metal Men.
ReplyDeleteI see what you mean, outside of the Super Buddies stuff and Identity Crisis nothing happened with them. I feel like if Ralph came back it's just be a step backwards from 52 so I can see why they didn't now that ya point that out.
You know, in a way I like the idea of L-Ron turning evil, since Max did. I wouldn't make L-Ron as pure evil as Max became, I'd make him really over the top evil, with a big-ass cape, and really hokey dialogue!
ReplyDeleteYeah, I think you said it best. The stuff in 52 was like the difinitive Ralph Dibny... What more could you do with him if he came back? I'm sure a good writer could probably make him interesting, but I kind of think that as a character he peaked during 52.
