New Comic Day! December 2nd Edition.

It's Thursday, which means it's time for a new installment of New Comic Day! Yeah, thanks to the weird “we can't ship new comics the Wednesday AFTER Thanksgiving until Thursday” thing, this post is a day late, but the important thing is that I finally have my new books in hand, which is a good thing.

As always, before we can look forward, let's take a look back to last week to see if I made good on my comic reviewing promise... In my last NCD post I guaranteed 12 new reviews by the time this week's NCD post went up. Instead of posting 12 reviews, I managed to put up an astounding, amazing, unbelievable 18 new reviews!!! I honestly don't know what spurred me to do that many reviews(probably having five days off for Thanksgiving), but hey, 18 new reviews over the course of a week sounds good to me!

Okay, with last week out of the way, let's take a look at this week's pull from the old comic store, whose owner told me he was having a buy two, get one free trade sale from now until x-mas, meaning bad things for my wallet... Anyway, today I picked up, Shadowland #5, What If? Iron Man #1, Batman: Orphans #1, Wolverine: The Best There Is #1, Heroes for Hire #1, Generation Hope #2, Batman: 80 Page Giant #1, Action Comics Annual #13, Captain America: Patriot #4, Freedom Fighters #4, JSA All Stars #13, Secret Six #28 & Brightest Day #15. That gives me a grand total of 13 comics, meaning I'll be putting up... Well, that's the problem... You see, normally I'd promise 13 reviews to go along with the 13 new comics, but I'm down to one more full week of school(HOORAH!), and to say it's going to be a hellish week is putting it mildly! Research papers, regular papers, exams, having to read the entire Great Gatsby over the course of ONE week(because my professor is insane), and THEN do a paper on it, next week looks absolutely jam packed with school work. So I'm not really sure how many reviews I'll be able to bust out before next week's NCD. I'd love to say I'll have 13 new reviews up(and hey, it's possible), but let's plan on a more reasonable 7 reviews and leave it at that. In other words, if you want me to review a specific comic from this week's pull, let me know and I'll make sure to put said comic at the top of my pile. If not, then it'll be whatever strikes my fancy at any given time.

Ah, I almost forgot! This week's pick of the litter would have to be Shadowland #5. Sure, there have been a few bumps in the road recently in regards to that mini, but I'm still expecting a massive, exciting conclusion to one of the better mini-series events of 2010. The runt of this week's litter? Do you even have to ask??? That damnable black hole of comic book entertainment Brightest Day #15 wins hands down! If I give that comic a score over a 4 I'll be absolutely amazed(and possibly drunk...). So that'll do it for me today kids, I'm planning on putting up a few reviews before I hit the hay tonight, so until then, X out.

  1. Who's writing Wolverine: The Best There Is? Is that the Charlie Huston series? If not, I'm guessing it's either Jason Aaron or Daniel Way...no matter who it is though, I'd love to hear your thoughts on it!

By the way, that "buy 2, get 1 free" sale sounds AWESOME!! Does it apply to trades too, or just single issues? Either way, I'm glad they're not doing anything like that around here, or I'd be flat broke. Can I make a request and ask that you pick up the last couple issues of Amazing Spider-Man to try it out while this sale is going on? I think you'll love it (especially now that you can get it for cheap!).

Good luck on all your end-of-the-semester work as well. I have a relatively insane amount of things to get done as well. But The Great Gatsby is one of my favorite books, so I hope you like it!

  2. Got some new material from my local comics store. yay! And yeah Marc who is writing wolverine. By the way Marc have you tried old man Logan? Very
weird...... Anyways I think picked up Captain America A Man out of Time(I think they might reboot Steve Rodgers) I'm gonna be reading that tonight and post my thoughts on it on my blog tomorrow. Although it might just be one of those nostalgia comics. You know what I mean? It would be nice to see him again and Bucky could finally take of that weird outfit. I also got Avengers 7
with that one man trying to find the infinity stones. Thats gonna be a fast read. I;m very envious I really wanted heroes for hire today but only had 9 dollars from my allowance. I hope we don't have dual reviews awkward.....! Anyways did you get a chance to see my latest review. Check it out if you didn't.
