Hey guys, it's Wednesday which means it's time for another New Comic Day post! And boy, this was a BIG comic book week for yours truly! I came out of the comic book store with... wait for it... 17 new comics! Yep, 17. Granted, one was for my sister and I probably won't be reading it, but still, after 14 books last week, I was half hoping for a lighter week... Oh who am I kidding, that's a boldface lie... I LOVE walking out of the comic shop with a whole load of new books tucked securely under my arm!
Before I get into what I picked up this week, I want to take a look back at last week's NCD post. Last week I said that I would review every single new comic that I had picked up last Wednesday. As I stated earlier, I brought 14 books. As of this writing, I posted 16 reviews between last Wednesday's post and this post! So it looks like I more than accomplished what I set out to do, right? Umm, not quite... There were a few comics I picked up last Wednesday that I didn't get around to, mainly because they were mini-series that I hadn't read the prior issue for yet. For example, I couldn't read that Last Family of Krypton #3 comic because I still haven't read issue #2. But I made up for that by reviewing a few of my subscription books, and I'm pretty proud of myself for managing to bust out 16 reviews last week. So proud in fact that I want to make another guarantee... I shall review 17 comics between this post and my next New Comic Day post! Yep, I just went there!
Okay, that clears up last week's housekeeping, let's get into this week's books. I currently have the following comics resting next to me: Bruce Wayne: The Road Home: Batgirl #1, Bruce Wayne: The Road Home: Red Robin #1, Bruce Wayne: The Road Home: Batman and Robin #1, Bruce Wayne: The Road Home: Outsiders #1, Untold Tales of Blackest Night #1, Booster Gold #37, Batman: The Return of Bruce Wayne #5, Green Lantern: Emerald Warriors #3, Invincible Iron Man #31, Justice League: Generation Lost #11, Outsiders #33, X-Men #4, The Thanos Imperative #5, Shadowland: Blood on the Streets #3, Shadowland #4, I Am An Avenger #2 & Hellblazer: City of Demons #1. Whew! For the record, that last title, the Hellblazer one, is for my sister, so I'm not 100% sure if I'm going to take the time to read it or not. As for the books I'm most looking forward to, I'd go with; Thanos Imperative #5, Shadowland #4 and X-Men #4. As for the book that I am absolutely dreading, that would definitely be Return of Bruce Wayne #5! I STILL haven't read Return #3 or #4 because the first two issues were painfully bad... I guess when I review #5 I'll also take the time to review #3 & #4 as well. Besides that, I'm also 3 issues behind in my Gen Lost reading, so that's another comic that I'm not sure when I'll be able to get to. Okay, that was a long post, and I have a lot of comics to get to, so I think I'll shut it down right here. Until next time, X out.

Holy Spotted Cow X-Man!!! That is like seriously a lot of comics. Lol. For one week. I was just telling JT he had a nice long review a head of him. You as well. Lol. But like we always say, I know the comic shop guy had a smile across his face as wide and the London Bridge. Lol.
ReplyDeleteBut, I hope you enjoy reading your comics. After I got my comics, lol, I just sat them on the desk with a post it note "Read before next week, so you can actually comment along with everyone on reviews this week" Lol, it actually says that. Lmao.
But I'm not even going to list what I would like for you to review because, lol, I know you'll review the ones I am interested in. So happy readings sir!! :)
Man oh man X, 17 comics?! I got about 12 but I doubt I'll review more than ten, or else this review won't be posted any time soon haha. I am wondering what you're gonna think about Return of Bruce Wayne #3-5.
ReplyDeleteBut man, don't burn yourself out with all these reviews X, besides when you don't review stuff people HAVE to read my reviews ;-) Haha.
I'm looking forward to hearing about the Blackest Night comic!
ReplyDeleteHey X, could you send me some of the seeds from those money trees you've been growing? Seventeen books is crazy!! I'd actually like to hear about Hellblazer, so here's hoping you read that one!
ReplyDeleteAnd you're right, Falisha...Spotted Cow IS holy!
"Holy Spotted Cow X-Man!!!" HA!!! Spotted Cow has gotten a lot of play from all of us lately, hasn't it?
ReplyDeleteSo far so good Lisha, the books I've read today have been pretty good, hopefully that streak continues. I love the note you left for yourself too. I'm curious to see if that reminder actually does it for you!
JT, not only did I get 17 books, I fully plan on putting up 17(or more!)reviews this week, there by putting you and your blog to shame! :D And to be honest, I'm not feeling burnt out at all actually. I've been pretty brief with most of my recent reviews(well, brief for me at least), so it hasn't felt like a chore... Yet! And don't you worry, when people want to read GOOD reviews for these books they'll go to you. I am the master of the half-assed, bad comic review! And I have plenty of folks out there who would second that!
Well that was concise Kello! I shall strive to get that done by tomorrow.
With all of your Skype money, you don't need any of my money tree seeds, Marc! :D Well, I've already given that Hellblazer book to my sister, so I can't really say when I'll be getting it back. When I do I'll throw it on the pile.
Haha well thanks for the compliment buddy, I appreciate it. Man, maybe now you can actually read and COMMENT on the R&R :P
ReplyDeleteHell dude, I noticed today my reviews are kinda long, a lot longer than they were when I started the R&R so it could be brief, meanwhile their like tiny books.
If your reviews are long, then what the heck are mine?? LOL
ReplyDeleteWell I think I should be able to comment on a lot of the books you reviewed this week JT, since I've actually read some of my new books already. That's rare for me!
ReplyDeleteThat's pretty much exactly what happened to me, JT. When I first started this blog each review was a few sentences that hit on the main points for the books. Then as time went on, I began to hit on more and more things, pretty much going through the comic page by page and recapping it. About two weeks ago I went and checked out some of those early Nightwing reviews to see just how I was able to post like 5 reviews a night, and to try to replicate my old style. So far I've been able to keep the reviews to pretty sensible sizes.
Well you put a lot of work into those reviews Marc! Although if you ever want to see a long review check out my review of the Avengers/JLA mini-series. Now THAT is a LOOOONG review!
Yep, all that work - just so you can bookmark 'em! Haha, I kid, I kid...
ReplyDeleteI shall be looking forward to that R&R, and to all 17 of your reviews this week, X!
Heh-heh... If they weren't good, I wouldn't bother to bookmark 'em! :P
ReplyDeleteTrust me, Marc, as I get closer and closer to that 17th review, you definitely won;t be looking forward to it! It'll go something like this, "This comic was... okay. Stuff happened and now I am done. Score: N/A"
Lmao, you guys are wild. Your reviews are gargantuan Marc, hell you're reviewing trades and I'm reviewing 25 page comics :P And that mini review X did was classic.
ReplyDeleteYeah, It's like when I started I'd just say what happened, now I'm doing like page by page reviews almost and just leaving the endings out.
Watch JT, that mini-review will probably be making an appearnce as I get closer to the end of my 17 review promise...
ReplyDeleteI know the feeling, JT. I'd just go through the comic and write like a little bit about like every page. A single review would wind up taking like almost a full hour to complete. With the way I'm doing the reviews now, I can usually bust out 3(sometimes 4)reviews in that same span.
Oh, and one more thing, I have SUCH difficulty reviewing trades, because I have such a hard time deciding what to leave out! I'll hit the main story, then I'll see some backstory that kind of fits with the main story, then I'll start talking about some of the supporting characters, and before you know it, the review is like pages long and/or never gets done... *coughSuperman:SecretOrigincough*
Hell I do not blame you at all buddy. You deserve it after 17 reviews.
ReplyDeleteI gotcha X, I usually write them as I read so I don't know what's useless or needed until I finish up, I think it's just easier for me that way for some reason.
Haha, you shoulda reviewed em one by one instead of a megapost! :P I kinda like reviewing trades more because I can just hit on the main story then discuss what I thought.
Yeah, I like reviewing trades because you generally get a more complete package story-wise that way. I always found it frustrating to write reviews of single issues that were "part 4 of 6" or something because it felt like trying to review 10 minutes from the middle of a movie. They might be a great 10 minutes, but you'd never watch them without watching the rest of the movie too. And if the rest of the movie is crap, that makes the 10 good minutes a lot less worth watching, if that makes sense.
