A Quick Look At... May 30th's New Releases.

Hey there X-Maniacs, Vampire X here with an unexpected post... Which is better than no post at all... Well, I guess that depends on the person, but I say it's better than no post at all. Although some people would vehemently disagree... Anyway, pointless rambling aside, I read almost all of the comics I picked up at the comic shop yesterday during my lunch break, and figured I'd just throw a quick post out with the score and what I thought of each book in two sentences or less... Yes, in two sentences or less... What?! I have to get to sleep soon! So yeah, I'll do this post today, and then I'll later on in the week I'll try to get a few proper reviews up and posted around here. So that's the plan, let's see how it works out!

American Vampire #27: There's really nothing to say except this comic was good as usual. The ending sets up some great stuff going forward, which is always a good sign!
Score: 8 out of 10.

Wolverine and the X-Men #11: This issue was way better than I expected it to be. Wolverine surprised me a bit here, but in a good way for a change.
Score: 6 1/2 out of 10.

New Mutants #43: Boy am I glad this x-over with Journey Into Mystery is over... Who'd have expected two books that I really enjoy reading to put out such a crappy x-over...
Score: 5 out of 10.

X-Men Legacy #267: If you are a fan of Rogue then THIS was the comic book for you! I'm not much of a Rogue fan(she's alright, I guess...), so naturally this WASN'T the comic for me!
Score: 5 1/2 out of 10.

Amazing Spider-Man Annual #39: This comic was actually a pleasant surprise... The story was strong(if a bit predictable), and it was basically a good read.
Score: 8 out of 10.

Wolverine #307: Yep, this definitely should have been this week's Runt of the Litter... I can't think of a single good thing to say about this comic, so I think I'll just end things here...
Score: 3 out of 10.

I figured I'd do a post like this in case anybody really wants to talk about one(or more) of these books. Now there's a place to post comments about them, plus you basically know what I thought about each comic. In two sentences or less... And hey, look at that, this post only took me a whopping 10 minutes to do, which is great because now I can close my casket and sleep until the sun sets! Until later, Vampire X out.

  1. I'm making my way through my comic stack, and the "Exiled" cross-over event is next on the pile. I'll let you know what I think. But, I just finished the "Omega Effect," which was SO disappointing, so I'm worried that I'm going to read another cross-over event that should've been awesome but isn't. Sigh. Enjoy the casket!

  2. I thought Legacy did a decent job of giving Wolvie's X-men a reason to join the battle. Still seams stupid on the Avenger's part but whatever.

  3. I'll def be interested in reading what you thought about Exiled, JW. Maybe I went in with my expectations too high, or maybe I was a bit burned that this didn't x-over with AvX(as I initially, and wrongly, thought), but I was very disappointed.

Yeah, but I guess that kind of fits Cap's current actions, Jermox... Not exactly coming up with the perfect plan. And it DID explain why Rogue and company joined the battle(and why on Lord Summers side), although since they are running a school, I can't say I agree with the decision to race off to battle another group of heroes, but what can ya do?

  4. It does leave some questions. Who is running the school? Will Wolvie stay with the Avengers after they pretty much attacked his school? Will we get to see Hellion in action? My pessimism predicts I won't get a satisfactory answer to any of these questions.

  5. I'd guess that Kitty is staying behind to run the school. Out of everybody there, she seemed like the only one who didn't really want to get involved with the fight. I mean she was still trying to teach classes! If she does stay behind, that would sure increase my respect for her a whole lot. The Wolvie and Hellion questions? Sadly I think you're right and those will remain unanswered, although Wolvie's part could very well change again depending on what happens during AvX #5, especially after the ending of AvX #4.

  6. OK, I was totally disappointed with the way "Exiled" ended. I mean, I enjoyed the writing and the banter and the characters, but GnDnA left SO many loose ends that I just ended it thinking, "WTF?" Like, in "New Mutants" #42, we're all concerned that reality is going to snap back and kill the Asgardians, but, then, in "Journey into Mystery" #638, we're like, "Oh, no, it's cool, we're just going to ignore that and hope for the best while we delve into some Norse history." Then, in this issue, the amnesiac Asgardians are just attending the wedding. Aren't they imminently going to die? Isn't that why we were so mad when we discovered that Kid Loki was lying about remembering who he was, because he wasted time? Plus, the spell making everyone forget who they were had nothing to do with the curse Bor put on the Disir, so why did it suddenly break when the curse was lifted? ARGH! My blog post on this is epic. It sucks, because I actually enjoyed reading each issue, but then, when I thought about each one later, I was like, "Wait a minute..."

  7. The wedding was SO random! I swear that I thought I missed an issue when I opened the last part, because it came out of nowhere! I've got to check out that post tomorrow morning when I get home, I'm off for work in an hour and a half and still have to make myself some dinner, but that at least gives me a good read when I get back. That should make the night go along way faster... I hope...

  8. I'm glad you thought that, too! I was like, "WTF?" It's like the GnDnA decided to write a cross-over series based on the "marry, $*%*, kill" game, except Sigurd was the only option for the Disir.

"WatX" was so much better than I thought it would be. I thought Aaron did a great job fitting the story between the panels of "Avengers vs. X-Men" #4.
