Taking a breather...

After some thought, I've decided not to review the rest of the comics I picked up last week, mainly due to a) being tired as hell from work, and b) the comics not being particularly good... So, for the record, the comics I won't be reviewing are Journey Into Mystery #638(which I'd give a 5 to), Voodoo #9(which was probably a 5 or so), Mighty Thor #14(which was around a 3), Secret Avengers #27(which I'd go with a 0 for), Teen Titans #9(which was about a 5 1/2) and Batman Inc #1(which I'd give about a 6 to)... So yeah, not exactly anything to write home about there... With the scores for those books being as lackluster as they were, I just couldn't get myself to spend the time punching out reviews for them. On top of all that, the blog has been feeling more like work and less like fun as of late, which is always a sign that it's time to take a step back and reconsider things... Anyway, I'll be back (after a very short break) on Wednesday with a fresh New Comic Day post, but until then? Vampire X out.

  1. Here's a thought then, which may ease you're pain and bring back some joy...Only type reviews on comics you feel are 7 or above. Don't waste time on reviews that suck which based on your habit seem to be under a score of 7. People have to understand that you have a life, a job, a woman, and family. Blogging is a hobby, not a chore or job. So if you feel that way, maybe this will help. Trust me, I definitely understand Vamp-X.

  3. Actually, sometimes I get a kick out of skewering a comic that I really didn't like, RadT! I tend to be at my most creative when I'm talking negatively about something... Go figure! Tbh, the comics that seem to give me the biggest headaches are the ones I really like, but other people hated for whatever reason. Which is weird, because you'd figure the reverse is true... But knowing myself, I'll take a few days off, recharge my batteries and then be right back again.

"the unexplained emo kid brought that issue down tho" Right?!? That was so weird to me, Movieartman! I don't know what that was all about... Enchantress was pretty awesome though.

  4. This is completley understandable. I do have to ask though.. the big fat 0 for secret avengers.. was that for story? for a dislike of Mar-vell, both? or something else entirely? lol just curious I didn't love the issue but i didn't hate it either. Have a good one!

  5. Ugh, it was the way Mar-Vell was mis-written... Everything about that was wrong. He wasn't the "Kree's greatest hero" the Kree HATED him! He was a traitor to their entire race! No Kree even visited him as he died. Yet a Skrull ambassador did since he was such a respected foe. Besides that, I don't see him running around trying to murder Avengers, plus I don't like the prospect of him coming back unless it's in a GREAT storyline(ala Bucky and Jason Todd). All I'm hoping is that this isn't the real Mar-Vell and is the Cancerverse version or some evil shade or something like that. Because Mar-Vell's death is one of THE best comic books I've ever read, hands down, so this issue was almost blasphemous!

  6. OK, I haven't read "Secret Avengers" issues yet, so I'm not reading any of the comments about that. But, dude, WTF are we going to do about "Superboy" and "Teen Titans?" I mean, this "Culling" business S-U-C-K-E-D. I've got to identify two books to get me under my $75 impending graduate-school budget, and I feel like I've honestly got to put them on the chopping block. I was going to put the twice-monthly "Venom" -- just because it's twice-monthly -- but it's so good I can't do it. Maybe "Batman and Robin" and something else? I don't know. I'm just so disappointed in both these series, and the "Culling" made it worse not better.

  7. Just want to say, I love your blog. Don't review so much that you burn yourself out. I especially love arguing with you on the AvsX reviews :).

  8. OMG, "Secret Avengers" WAS SO BAD!

  9. I am SO hoping that Teen Titans and SB start to get better now that this Culling garbage is finished with, JW... Maybe we can drop Harvest for a while now(or he can go to Ravagers, which I picked up today for some reason...) and actually get some good old teenage superhero fun. And you know, maybe SB can become human again... That would help... Maybe you should consider dropping Secret Avengers. Seriously, Remender just hasn't done it for me with that series since he took over, and after AvX you've got to think he's going to go back to that robot kingdom junk... Huh, I think I just about talked MYSELF out of that comic! Especially after that last issue! :D

Ah the AvX reviews... Those comics went from being so much fun to something I truly dread posting... It's not on you, AA, because you actually lay out good arguments and are respectful of others opinions, but I'm telling you, some people would personally attack me and others if we didn't fall in line with their way of thinking... That's one of the things that made this blog a drag. But yeah, I think I need to be more choosy with which comics I review, that would also help out a lot too.

  11. See....its people like this 'Anon' character that makes a blog not cool. That remark was disrespectful and quite uncalled for. You know...what's funny is this "Anon" character who made such an ugly remark is acting quite cowardice due to not revealing who he/she is but instead wishes to make such a comment under the mysterious codename Anonymous. I honestly am getting tired of the negativity and disrespect people are throwing Vamp-X's way...so let me go out and just say...STOP IT! IF YOU GOT A PROBLEM AND WISH TO BE UGLY DUE TO PERSONAL OPINION ABOUT THE BLOG OR IT'S BLOGGERS...PLEASE DO EVERYONE A FAVOR AND FIND ANOTHER BLOG TO COMMENT ON BECAUSE ALL THE NEGATIVITY ISN'T NECESSARY AND STRAIGHT UP RUDE! IF YOU HAVE NOTHING GOOD OR WORTHWHILE TO SAY THAT'S DECENT, THEN DON'T SPEAK! All X was trying to do is inform people of his situation in case it appears he was absent from blogging or it seemed he was ignoring people who wanted a response from a comment posted....That's all....sheesh! Man X75, this is the crap I'm talkin' about...what's up with all the negativity?! Wish there was something that could be done. People just take things waaaay toooo personal....it makes no sense to me.

  12. So, here's the story. I take it that Anon must have said something pretty classless, but luckily for me? I didn't see what was said! During lunch I checked my e-mails, saw I had a few comments, checked out what JT had to say, checked out what RadT had to say and figured I'd save myself the annoyance of whatever was said by simply not clicking Anon's comment. So whatever was said, I don't know, nor do I care. From now on, I'll just check out the comments from people I enjoy chatting with. And any names I don't recognize or any Anons? I'll just skip them. It's too bad because I know some of the Anons around here are pretty cool, but our bad Anon ruined it for everybody. I'd recommend everybody do the same and just ignore whatever comes from an Anon or somebody who you don't recognize. I think that'll make life a lot more peaceful.

Oh, and JT and RadT? Thanks for the words of defense. Much appreciated.
