Justice League Dark #6

Ah, now here's a series I am seriously considering dropping... The first storyline was, in the vernacular of John Constantine, rubbish. This issue has to be REALLY good for me to keep this series on my pull list.

Justice League Dark #6:

Summary: Constantine, Zatanna, Deadman & Shade all have some really bad nightmares. They all head to Madame Xanadu since the nightmares began after the end of the battle with the Enchantress. Before Xanadu can shed some light onto why these four characters were experiencing these terrible dreams, the creature from the Shade's nightmare attacks. Somehow Deadman and Shade pool their talents to defeat the creature... And no, I haven't the slightest idea what they did... With the threat over, Xanadu tells the group that the nightmares were actually glimpses of possible futures that would occur if the heroes didn't remain together as a team. Before she can impart any more wisdom, Xanadu screams as she senses something gone awry with the vampires, signaling the beginning of the crossover with I, Vampire.

Thoughts: Well NOW sure would be a great time for my comic shop to FINALLY get I, Vampire #2 in stock so I can catch up on that frigging series! As for this issue? It didn't do enough. To be perfectly honest, if it wasn't for the I, Vampire crossover, I'd be dropping this series this Wednesday when I hit the comic shop. It just doesn't do it for me. With that said, I'll continue reading through the I, Vampire x-over stuff, and once that ends? I'll be dropping this series. I'm sure I can find a more creative way to waste $3 every month.

Score: 6 out of 10.

Well, at least I can still read about Constantine in Hellblazer...

  1. Men at least wait until issue 9 Jeff Lemire will be writting this series from there...

  2. Really?! Well then consider me sticking with this series. I'll at least give Lemire a shot to impress me with his first storyline... With the way DC is constantly switching up their creative teams, I guess I should have known to wait a few issues until there was inevitably a writer change!

  3. This series makes me want to shout to the rooftops of the disappointment it brings lol. I haven't read yet but our reviews of the series has been pretty similar and from the looks of your score and the review, I'm almost not to happy with continuing this series.

And I'm with you....if it wasn't for I, Vampire I would've said the hell with JLD. And that's exactly what I told JT and told me it wouldn't hurt to give it a try up until the cross over.

And Seeing that you're excited about this Jeff Lemire writer, lol, maybe I'll end up sticking around too. You've never led me wrong as far as good writers. So thanks Alien for the news. :)

  4. Ha, I tought that you were reaiding Lemire's Animal Man Lisha...
And for my humble opinion he is killing it in that series, so I can't wait for Lemire to take over JLD at issue 9

  5. Lol... Alien, the sad thing is I am! Lol. I HARDLY pay attention to the writers so I don't get too influenced to read or not read something. lol.

And Animal man has been a fantastic series...so if he's taking over JLD, the I'm all for giving it a try.

  6. My sister is the same way with writers, Lisha. I'll obsess over who is writing what book, while my sister has no favorite writer, nor does she care who is writing what. She's more of the mindset of if the comic sucks, she won't read it. It doesn't matter who's writing it. For me, there are certain writers I'll give a longer leash to and others who I'll drop a book because I can't stand their writing style or past work. Normally I like Peter Milligan's work, but for whatever reason, he's just not doing it for me with this series. But I'll def give Lemire a shot.

  7. You're sister sounds like my type of gal...in the friendly manner lol. I've missed out on some good reads whether it's a book, comic, or article being obsessed with the writer. So I kind of learned to not judge a book by it's author approach. For example, Greg Rucka, lol. You know how I felt about that man, lol and it's led me to miss out on some pretty good comics.

  8. Yeah, I'm always telling her to check out who the writer is for a book, but she never does. I mean I think she knows like the BIG names(Ed Brubaker, Peter David, Geoff Johns, Bendis), mainly 'cause I'm always talking about writers when I talk to her about comics! That's one thing I can't help... I always need to know who writes what I'm reading... I almost can't enjoy a comic unless I know who's the writer! It's a very weird quirk I have... One of many! :P

  9. Lol, I know the big names and I'm always keeping an eye out on those writers. Especially if it's a favorite of mine. But, I still hesitate on worrying about the writer completely. Hell, I think the artist holds a little more importance to me. Nothing worse than having to look at crappy art work. Lol. The art tells it all!!!!

  10. HA!! I'm not surprised at all that you'd be more likely to look at the artist on a book first, Lisha! I'm the opposite. I'll usually only try to see who's doing art for a book if after I read it I think the art was really good, or really bad. I hate to say it(especially to you!), but I'm terrible with remembering artists! :P

  11. Lol, I think it's a bad habit to just look through a comic see the art and judge whether or not I'll be reading it lol. Rarely I can put up with crappy looking art, the story better be damn good though.

And X no need to feel shame for not remembering artists. It took me a while to recognize an artist's work lol. And the ones I remember don't do much art in comics now days, so I'm back to trying to remember again, lol.

  12. HA! Then I don't feel that bad if our resident artist doesn't even remember most of the newer artists names! :D I'll just wait for you to mention somebody(like Dustin Nguyen), and then I'll make a mental note about them!

  13. Lol, sad thing is, he's one of few artists I can actually name on the spot, lol.

  14. Same here, and that's 100% due to you!

  15. This seemed to be just a filler issue, and to set up the crossover. You definitely need to catch up on I, Vampire. It has been one of my 2 or 3 favorite books from the nDCU. I kinda think, with Shazam debuting in the universe next month, that he could be made a little more grown-up and put in JLD. He is magic based, and could use a new, more adult, personality.

  16. I should FINALLY get to catch up on I, Vampire thanks to my good friend JT sending me a copy of issue #2 earlier this week. Now that I have issue #2, I'll but #3-6 from the comic shop tomorrow and by this time next week should be fully caught up(and hopefully have had the time to review) with that series.

The Shazam thing is REALLY interesting. We've seen that a more adult version of the character CAN work(the Freddy Freeman version from that mini-series and the Outsiders), but I have a feeling DC will give us the ultra childish, "Holy Moley!!" version since that version fits the Silver Age image so many of DC's higher ups seem to adore so much. I def hope I'm wrong, and would love to see a more adult Shazam, but I'm def not gonna hold my breath on that one.
