Review: Wonder Girl heads to England to spend some time with her mother, who is working at a museum. WG's mother pretty much immediately gets under WG's skin, and the two basically spend a bunch of uncomfortable moments together. WG decides to ditch her mother and wander around the museum herself, where she bumps into a girl around her age named Kiran. The two girls talk, and an earthquake suddenly strikes, which surprises WG. It turns out the earthquake was caused by Lady Zand, the ruler of Zandia. Zand brings a bunch of stone creature out of the ground to run interference for her as she tries to steal some artifact she feels belongs to her. WG switches from Cassie Sandsmark to WG and goes to deal with the stone creatures, while Kiran transforms into the fire powered hero Solstice. The two heroes manage to minimize most of the damage, but Zand seemingly gets away with the artifact she was after(I guess, it was really hard to tell). Solstice runs over to her parents to tell them what happened, while WG heads towards her mother to apologize for doing the whole WG thing, since she knew her mother hated super-heroics. Instead of scolding WG though, WG's mother embraces her, ending this issue.
Thoughts: Blah. More than anything else, this issue seemed to be more of a debut for Solstice than it was a story about Cassie... That annoyed me a lot. I brought this issue FOR Cassie, NOT Solstice. Solstice has been making some background appearances in JT Krul's Teen Titans, so I guess it made sense he decides to use her here, but still, there are SO many characters that had actual connections to Cassie that I was disappointed not to see them. No Superboy, no Red Robin, no Arrowette, no Teen Titans OR Young Justice members at all... Just Solstice. All in all, this was a very disappointing one-shot, one I most definitely could have done without.
Score: 4 1/2 out of 10.Hey look it's Solstice... Not Superboy, not Kid Flash, not Red Robin, not Arrowette, not even Ravager... No, it's Solstice...

Oh noooo! What I was hoping for!!! Now I can read this and bash this like you do Brightest day. Should be fun. Good thing it was a one shot and not a series. I think I would protest that. Lol.
ReplyDeleteIf a WG series was anything like this comic, I'd join that protest, Lisha! :D
ReplyDeleteLmao so you hated Solstice, you seem to dislike Aquaboy... man, you're like the new Geoff Johns! :P
ReplyDeleteWho the hell is "Aquaboy"?! It's odd for me to dislike a character I don't even know! Although with my recent displeasure of most things DC, I wouldn't be surprised by my hatred of this Aquaboy... :D
ReplyDeleteIt wasn't Solstice herself that bothered me, it was the fact that she just didn't fit in this story for me... I mean it was a WG one-shot. I don't get why Krul decided to introduce a new character he's been building up over in Teen Titans in THIS comic. I would have liked it if it was centered around Cassie and some characters from her past(Arrowette, Donna, YJ or TT alumni, etc). Adding Solstice here just seemed... I don't know, unnecessary I guess.
Oh, and NEVER compare me to Chairman Johns again... >:-(
Lol You KNOW Jackson Hyde or whatever his name is, is the new Aquaboy. And I will ALWAYS compare you to Geoff Johns, bescause regardless of the current going-ons, the guy is still one of the best!
ReplyDeleteOh... Aqualad! I swear I thought you were talking about some character I either didn't know or had forgotten about! I have nothing against him. I don't really care about him one way or the other actually. He has yet to leave an impact on me. Once he gets away from Brightest Day and ends up on the Teen Titans(which is where he'll prob wind up), I'll have more of an opinion on him. As it is now, I'm apathetic towards him.
ReplyDeleteWell I like that you refer to me as one of the best :D But I think Chairman Johns is FAR from a top writer anymore. Wait until you see my reviews for GL #60 & 61...
Lmao HIM! I knew I was saying it wrong. I worked from 2-10:30, cut me some slack buddy. As for Jackson, yeah I'm sure he'll end up on the Teen Titans, it
ReplyDeletes almost positive. I feel like Static left so they could have a new token black guy with dreads....
Oh God, I can't wait for those GL reviews now. And nah, you're far from the best, when I'm around, but when I'm not, yeah, you're the best buddy. :D
HA!!! God knows DC can't have TWO black teens on the same team, even though they have COMPLETELY different powers! That would lead to a total breakdown in society itself and widespread madness!
ReplyDeleteThey're really not so much reviews as much as they're... Well, you'll have to wait until Sunday to find out. I have a Best of the Rest set to go up tomorrow, and then something a bit new for Sunday.
Lol, two black male teens with dreadlocks?! How will the readers EVER tell them apart?! This would cause FAR too many complications!
ReplyDeleteHm... something a bit new eh? Way to keep the readers on the edge of their seats X. :P
Lol, long as I had you on my side in that protest X we could cause some damage!
ReplyDelete"two black male teens with dreadlocks?! How will the readers EVER tell them apart?!" HA!!! Ah DC... What will we ever do with you!?
ReplyDeleteYou know it, Lisha! The two of us would shake DC to the ground with our protest!
You know they'd just kill Static and make Aqualad became to new Static. Staticlad!
ReplyDelete"Staticlad"?! That sounds like the mascot of a brand of fabric softner! "Is static cling attacking your clothes? Then call in Staticlad! He'll wage war against the forces of static cling and leave your clothes soft and refreshing!"
ReplyDeleteSee, and just like that you've already gave DC an idea for a seven issue mini-series.
ReplyDeleteMan, imagine if it was written by Crazy Grant?! THat would be the most insane, unreadable thing in the history of comic books, or literature in general!
ReplyDeleteAnd YOU'd still give it at least two outta ten, and then say it'd be worse if Geoff Johns wrote it. Hiyoooooooo! :P
ReplyDeleteNuh-uh, according to the Crazy Grant Rule, I wouldn't be able to score it lower than a 5 out of 10. Now if Chairman Johns wrote it, it'd be in the negative numbers! I can't wait for the issue of BD that gets a negative score! That's going to be awesome! And it might just be this week's issue since I see the Hawks on the cover!
ReplyDeleteSurprisingly enough I liked that issue enough to give it a 6. But you're WAY more harsh than me, so you'll probably give it a two or something. And that Crazy Grant rule should be called the Crazy X rule :P
ReplyDeleteWow, a SIX?! It must have been ALL Firestorm or something! You know how harsh my Brightest Day scoring rule is... Man, I am SUCH an ass when I score that comic... I'll be reading it and see something dumb like Congorilla and be like, "Well, that takes a point and a half off the final score." >:-)
ReplyDeleteCrazy Grant, Crazy X, it's all the same. :P
Haha, it surprisingly focused on the Hawks. Don't get me wrong, there was REALLY stupid stuff. I mainly liked all the questions raised at the end and the surprising heel turn that I shan't mention.
ReplyDelete"Crazy Grant, Crazy X, it's all the same." See, a year ago you would've been ready to fight me if I said that! :P
Wow, I am SHOCKED that it revolved around the Hawks and you liked it... Literally SHOCKED!
ReplyDeleteSee what a difference a year makes?
Dude, who are YOU telling? I went in to that comic ready to rip it to shreds, and dont get me wrong, it had dumb parts, but some of the twists were the main reasons I enjoyed it. Just from the fact it raised questions.
