Deadpool #1

As sure as the sun sets in the west, Marvel is releasing another first issue of Deadpool...  Counting Cable/Deadpool, this is the fifth Deadpool series we've gotten(sixth if you want to count Agent X, which was kind of the spiritual successor of the first Deadpool ongoing).  If I'm being completely honest, I'm not exactly looking forward to this comic...  The first storyline sounds, well, pretty lame.  But here's hoping new writers Brian Posehn and Gerry Duggan prove me wrong and bring us a classic DP story.

Deadpool #1: 

Summary:  So some random necromancer has been running around resurrecting the deceased Presidents of the United States, hoping they could make the country more like the good ol' days.  Captain America ended up decapitating the ghost of Harry Truman, but that action drove the media into a frenzy, so SHIELD decided to use somebody of a lesser status to hunt down these rogue presidents, that somebody being Deadpool.  After defeating Franklin D Roosevelt in Manhattan, Pool is dispatched to Philadelphia, where many of the dead presidents had ended up.  Unfortunately for Pool, he is shot in the back of the head by Abraham Lincoln, and George Washington declares that the zombie presidents were going to tear the country apart and then start it all over again.

Thoughts:  Yep, this was about as bad as I was fearing...  I means seriously, Deadpool vs the former presidents?  Who the hell thought THAT was a good idea?!  Basically this comic was terrible.  It didn't have a good story, but it was also missing the humor that a Deadpool comic so desperately needs, especially for when the story is lacking.  Comedy IS subjective, so hopefully there are some people out there who did enjoy this series.  I just wasn't one of them.  I really don't have anything good to say about this comic, so I think I should end this review here.  Before signing off though, I will say that this series looks to be the first Marvel Now! casualty from my pull list...  I'll give this title one more issue and then wait for a new writer(s) to take over the book.

Deadpool #62

So T-Ray and Slayback have returned to menace the now healing factor-less Deadpool in this comic...  That HAS to lead to some hilarious moments, right?  Right?!?

Deadpool #62

Summary: Agent Kemp is running T-Ray and Slayback through a very advanced virtual reality program that is simulating Deadpool.  The program is so good though the two villains aren't able to defeat it, so Kemp tells them to keep practicing so that they're ready for the real thing.  From there, Deadpool hunts down Taskmaster for a mercenary job, but Taskmaster figures Pool was there for selling him out to Black Box a few issues back, leading to the two fighting.  Pool comes out on tops, and Taskmaster apologizes for selling Pool out, with Pool accepting.  From there, Taskmaster tells Pool that T-Ray and Slayback had suddenly popped back up, which leads to Pool leaving.  This issue ends with Taskmaster selling Pool out to Agent Kemp and telling her that Pool had just left his safehouse...  HA!

Thoughts: Okay, I kind of/sort of expect Taskmaster and Pool to be working together here, and that Pool asked Taskmaster to tell Kemp that he was leaving in order to draw Kemp and her cronies out in the open.  However, I REALLY hope that Taskmaster has betrayed Pool again, because that would just be awesome on so many levels, especially since Taskmaster had just apologized for selling Pool out a few seconds earlier!  Um, besides that, nothing really happened here...  T-Ray and Slayback trained, and Deadpool learned the art of forgiveness...  This wasn't a terrible comic, and the last page(which I'll scan) gave me a legit laugh, but other than that, that was it.

Deadpool #60

Hey guys and gals, no your eyes aren't deceiving you, this is a JT post. I've dropped the "JT's Take" titles of my posts, to show a bit more unity. X opened his blog to me, and I figured if we're gonna do the fiddy/fiddy thang, (I don't know why I typed that) why have a title distinction? Anyway, all that aside, today's review is with our favorite Merc with a Mouth, with Black Box putting a hit on his newly handsome head, let's see how the formerly Regeneratin' Degenerate fares.

Deadpool #60

Summary: Sigh... This is gonna be a quick review. We start things off with Deadpool using a gas hose and a lighter and shooting flames from his butt by placing the hose between his legs. He uses them to basically knock out Black Tom and Black Box... somehow. Anyway, while playing with fire he sets himself on fire, ruining his good looks... so now he looks like he did before. Sigh... An explosion then blasts Deadpool away, knocking him unconscious. He regains consciousness later, as we see he was saved by Black Swan, because he took Black Swan to the hospital two issues ago. Black Swan tells Deadpool that he helped him like he said he would, and now Black Tom and Black Box no longer remember that Deadpool doesn't have his healing factor. Black Swan then offers Deadpool a job, Deadpool curses a ton, then the issue comes to a close.


Thoughts: Well this was terrible. This issue was CLEARLY rushed due to the whole Marvel Now thing, and what's worse is Deadpool burned himself up, I can't... It doesn't make sense to me that he would even make a mistake and do that considering how much he was happy to look normal. Now he looks the same and has no healing factor, which is just stupid. I could have seen if someone else set him ablaze or threw acid on him but this was just idiotic. Also, the "no one remembers you don't have a healing factor "One More Day" stuff really annoyed me. And the ending... with Deadpool just cursing... this comic seemed like something Dan Way put out because he had to, so he scribbled it on a napkin and said "Print em up!" Horrible comic all around, I can honestly say I enjoyed nothing in this book. Well no, I take that back, the art was good, so I'll give it a point for that...

JT's Take: Deadpool #58

Hey guys and gals, today we're gonna check in with our favorite former Regeneratin Degenerate, with a game on the horizon, the sky is looking high for the Crimson Comedian, so let's see if this issue is doing as well as Deadpool's career.

Deadpool #58

Summary: This issue of everyone's favorite Merc with a Mouth starts off with Deadpool being caught with his pants down, literally, as Deadpool is caught doing a numero dos on the toilet as he's confronted by a gun-toting supervillain by the name of Black Swan. We flashback to eight days ago as we see Black box notifying Black Swan about the chance to get revenge on Deadpool, since he no longer has his healing factor. From there we go to five days ago, as we see Deadpool, upset that his pinky finger hasn't grown back yet. He's starting to regret being cured and being able to die now. Deadpool decides to go ask Cable to stop Black Box, since the two are friends, but it turns out Cable is in a coma, so... once again, Pool get's screwed. Back at the present, Pool talks Black Swan into letting him at leas flush first, which he does, but Deadpool leaps behind the shower curtain as he does. Turns out a few days before, Pool bought an Anti-Ballistic Shower Curtain. Classic Deadpool. As Deadpool flushed, a bomb shot out of the back of the toilet, which blasted Black Swan away. Black Swan is now bleeding to death from an artery, as Deadpool stands over him victorious, Black Box realizes that Black Swan has failed, so he calls someone else and asks if they want a shot at Deadpool. The issue ends as the challenge is accepted by noneother than Black Tom.


Thoughts: Black Swan, Black Box, Black Tom.... what is it with Deadpool and Blacks? Lol, wait, that came out wrong. Anyway, I'm wondering who's next, maybe Black Bolt and Black Panther? Other than that, not much happened though, the plan was classic Deadpool which was fun, and Deadpool is already regretting losing his healing factor, maybe he'll be able to get it back and keep his good looks? I guess we'll find out, although I can't say I'm too excited to see Pool take on Black Tom...

Deadpool #55

Awesome, it's Deadpool! So last issue Deadpool was cured of his healing factor and as a result his face and body aren't deformed anymore... What's next for Pool? Let's find out!

Deadpool #55:

Story Points:
-Pool decides that he didn't need his healing factor and that he had to reestablish his reputation, and as such needs to make a splash...
-That splash? Taking down the Intellencia.
-The Intellencia are having a meeting to discuss... Well, nothing. MODOK has decided to let the heroes tear each other apart and then his group could pick up the pieces.
-At that moment Pool attacks and sets off explosives.
-With the Intellencia's base being underwater. Pool figures they'd all drown.
-However, they use Wizard's anti-gravity tech to escape and the Trapster goes after Pool.
-With the Trapster having the advantage of the high ground due to the anti-grav platform, he manages to DEFEAT Deadpool!
-After some time, Pool wakes up floating in the water and comes to the horrific realization that he had just lost to Paste Pot Pete!!!

Thoughts: This issue was a blast to read... From Deadpool's lame attempt at shaving, to his hilarious zinger about the Hulk(and then wishing the Leader was there since it would have had a bigger impact), to just about everything here. This was a great issue. It was funny, there was a strong story, it had everything a great comic needs. After the ending of this one, I'll be interested to see what Pool does with himself after that humiliating defeat...

Deadpool #54

Last issue Deadpool got his wish and lost his healing factor, becoming mortal... However, doing so has left his only friend, Hydra Bob, to the mercies of Tombstone... What's a Merc with a Mouth to do?

Deadpool #54:

Story Points:
-Pool, not wanting to die anymore due to the fact that Hydra Bob would certainly die the moment Pool was gone, convinces Wolverine and X-Force to give him three days to try to set everything right with Bob and Tombstone.
-Tombstone tries, and fails to kill Pool and Bob, with Pool telling Tombstone that Tombstone wasn't good enough to kill Pool... Oh, burn!
-Pool and Bob take off their masks in order to hide amongst the public, since without his healing factor, Pool looks perfectly normal.
-This one ends with Tombstone offering a team-up with Kingpin to get Pool, but being turned down after Kingpin learned from Daken that Tombstone had played everybody. Kingpin sends the Hand after Tombstone.

Thoughts: I liked this issue a lot, actually! It leaves all sorts of doors open with Pool, since he now looks normal, has no healing factor, but still has all of his skills. There are A LOT of ways Dan Way can go with Pool's story now. If anything, that healing factor had become a crutch story-wise, so I hope Pool doesn't get it back immediately, especially now since he doesn't want to die. Oh yeah, and hopefully this means MORE Bob!!!

Deadpool #53

The first review of this new comic week is the book I designated this week's Pick of the Litter, Deadpool. The cliffhanger last issue leaves this issue really up in the air, so we'll see just where Dan Way takes Deadpool in this issue.

Deadpool #53:

Summary: We find out that Tombstone actually DID give Hydra Bob the serum that would negate Deadpool's healing factor, with the deal being that Bob would alert Tombstone that Pool was vulnerable so Tombstone could kill Pool off. Pool is delighted by this turn of events and thanks Bob before teleporting away. Pool heads to X-Force and basically taunts them all for being suckers and doing his bidding. That pisses them off, which is exactly what Pool wanted, so he leaves before Wolvie can gut him. Pool teleports back to Bob to gloat that X-Force would make sure to kill him, but Bob rants at Pool, telling him that the deal Bob made was that in exchange for the serum, TOMBSTONE had to kill Deadpool, nobody else... And if somebody else killed Pool? You know Tombstone would be taking it out on Bob... Bob goes on to explain that he had hoped that injecting Pool with the serum would make Pool realize how valuable life was, forcing Pool to forget his death wish... So now Pool is faced with the realization that if he dies, Bob, his only true friend, would die a brutal death at the hands of an angry Tombstone. As for X-Force? This issue ends with Wolverine declaring that they would be killing Deadpool for all of the crap he put the team through.

Thoughts: I enjoyed reading this comic. I had a smile on my face throughout most of it, and really, isn't that what reading a comic should do? The fact that Bob had the serum kind of made sense, since he was a known associate of Pool, and would be able to get close to him, so I get why Tombstone would give Bob the serum. I also get why Bob stuck Pool with the serum, because he was hoping that feeling “normal” would give Pool a different outlook on life, and make him want to live. The only thing I didn't get was why Pool didn't simply shoot himself in the head or allow Wolvie to murder him at the X-Force base... Why anger X-Force, leading them to chasing Pool around before they killed him? If the end result Pool wanted was to die at the hands of X-Force, well he had that chance in THIS issue... But then this IS Deadpool we're talking about, so I probably shouldn't try to spend too much time pondering his actions.

Deadpool #52

X here with one measly review for the night... I have to be at work VERY early tomorrow, which means I don't have a lot of time for typing up reviews tonight. Hopefully I'll be able to get a few reviews up and finished tomorrow afternoon after work, but we shall see... As for tonight, I'll be reading and reviewing this week's Pick of the Litter, the comic I'm expecting the most out of, that's right, Deadpool. You're all I've got tonight, Deadpool, don't let me down...

Deadpool #52:

Summary: Okay, as per my messed up schedule, this is going to be a REEEEEALY fast review, so hang on... Kingpin captures Hydra Bob, since Kingpin figured Bob knew more than he was letting on. Deadpool uses Bob's capture as an excuse to get X-Force to attack Kingpin's headquarters, which leads to a lot of ninjas being eviscerated by Wolvie and company. With Wolvie slowly becoming wise to the fact that there was more going on here than meets the eye, Deadpool betrays his X-Force teammates and chases Kingpin to the roof. Before anything can go down between Kingpin and Deadpool, X-Force and Hydra Bob manage to reach the rooftop. Deadpool decides to toss some grenades at X-Force to get them out of his hair, but Fantomex shoots the grenades back at Pool, destroying Kingpin's getaway helicopter. Kingpin leaps off the roof and escapes via a parachute(??!), while Daken shoots Wolverine in the back from a nearby building with what Deadpool presumed was the serum that would rob Pool of his healing factor and finally allow him to die. Pool moves to teleport to Daken to get the serum, but before he can, Bob grabs Deadpool and stabs him in the chest with what appears to be the real serum(!?!), ending this issue.

Thoughts: Wait, so when did Bob get the serum?! And more to the point, where was he hiding it?! You'd have to think Kingpin would have had Bob searched thoroughly before being brought to his base to be tortured, so it's kind of weird that Bob was the one with the serum in the end... I would have sworn Daken had the serum considering the way the last issue ended. Regardless of what happened though, it looks as if Pool FINALLY doesn't have his healing factor(unless Bob messed up and gave Pool a fake serum, which is definitely possible...), which means Pool will be doing EVERYTHING in his power to die next issue. After betraying X-Force, as well as Bob, and using Kingpin and Daken as pawns, I'll be interested to see what happens next. Oh, and yes, I was kind of bummed that we didn't get the Deadpool/Daken battle I was anticipating here...

Deadpool #51

I'm gonna have to rush a bit here as I've got work tomorrow and would like to at least get the rough drafts for tomorrow's comic books typed up... Yeah, so the introduction for this issue sucks... What can ya do?

Deadpool #51:

Summary: Deadpool's wacky, convoluted plans continue here as X-Force battles the Hand, since X-Force believed Kingpin had the serum that could negate Deadpool's healing factor, while Kingpin wanted to get his hands on the serum... Oh yeah, and X-Force and Kingpin both think the serum could negate any mutant power... Meanwhile, Daken is also looking for the serum, since he was led to believe(by Deadpool) that it could negate healing factors, which meant he could use it to kill his hated father, Wolverine. As for who actually has the serum? Tombstone. After nearly getting into a gang war with Kingpin set up by, you guessed it, Deadpool, Tombstone decides to head to the lab to get the last remaining vial of the anti-Deadpool serum before things got too hot. Unfortunately for Tombstone, Daken had been eavesdropping on his business and beats him to the warehouse, burning it down and presumably taking the serum. Meanwhile, Deadpool has gambled that if anybody was savvy enough to get his hands on the serum it would be Daken, so he tells X-Force to find the serum while he deals with Daken, since the two wouldn't be able to kill each other due to their healing factors... Not realizing what Deadpool was up to(or that Daken most likely HAD the serum), Wolverine sends Deadpool after Daken, and possibly his death.

Thoughts: This comic was ALLLL over the place, but in a good sort of way. There was a lot to follow, what with all of the plans Deadpool has put into motion, and if I'm being honest, all of those various plans did hurt my enjoyment of this one just a bit. I mean I loved how clever Deadpool ended up looking coming out of this one, but between Kingpin, the Hand, Typhoid Mary the various X-Force members, Hydra Bob, Deadpool himself, Tombstone, Daken, Spider-Man(yep, he was here too!), and some assorted hitmen and gangsters, this issue was a bit hard to follow from time to time... That's not to say I'm not enjoying the story, and that I didn't love the fact that the ending should set up Pool vs Daken, to the death(!), but I didn't enjoy this issue as much as I enjoyed the previous one.

Deadpool #50

Hmm, with how much I disliked Secret Avengers #22, maybe I SHOULD have made this issue of Deadpool my Pick of the Litter for the week... Well, let's hope this comic is better than the first one I read this week...

Deadpool #50:

Summary: After watching his deformed clone die last issue, Deadpool is on a mission... A mission to DIE!!! Um, seriously though, since Evil Deadpool had been killed by a dart that negates Deadpool's healing factor, Deadpool wants to get his hands on that dart, since it would finally give him what he'd always wanted. Death. To that end, Deadpool ends up setting several powerful characters out to track down the anti-healing factor serum, for him... Pool tells Daken, Hydra Bob(who Pool sends to tell Kingpin), and Uncanny X-Force about the serum and waits for the results of their investigations. Daken is interested in getting a hold of the serum since he wanted to make sure it couldn't negate HIS healing factor, while Kingpin sees it as an opportunity to keep the mutants in line and expand his territory. Wolverine, believing Kingpin already had the serum(thanks to some crafty lying by Deadpool), wants to find the sniper who shot Evil Deadpool before heading after Kingpin himself. Wolvie manages to figure out that the sniper who shot Evil Deadpool was one of two men, and Deadpool teleports away with that information, hoping to get to the right sniper before anybody else. Meanwhile, Kingpin has sent Typhoid Mary and the Hand after one of the snipers, which ultimately brings Mary and the Hand into direct conflict with X-Force. Daken had managed to get to the other sniper and speaks with the man apparently responsible for the hit on Deadpool... Tombstone(!!). Upon hearing from Daken that Pool was still alive(he thought Pool was the dead Evil Deadpool), Tombstone orders some more serum.

Thoughts: Yup, I definitely should have made this comic my Pick of the Litter... Well, let's all pretend that I did! This was a hell of a good comic. The story was solid, we had a large cast of characters, and all of them were used well, with nobody really getting lost in the shuffle. First, let's look at the story... We have Tombstone out to kill Deadpool. Tombstone has managed to get a scientist to create a serum that negates Pool's healing factor thanks to a private investigator getting a hold of some of Deadpool's hair back from when Pool was a kid. Next we get a mess of characters who have interacted with Pool over the years(even Typhoid Mary!), which makes this issue even sweeter to a longtime Deadpool fan such as myself. The dialogue was good, the art was good, really, my only gripe, and it's a SMALL one, is who the apparent mastermind here is... Tombstone was never the sharpest knife in the drawer, so I'm kind of surprised to find that he's the guy who managed to figure out a way to finally kill Deadpool... I'd have preferred T-Ray or somebody similar, but what can ya do? Besides that very minor quibble, this was a splendid start to what should be a fantastic storyline.

Score: 9 1/2 out of 10.

Dan Way + Daken + Deadpool = near perfection.

Deadpool #49.1

Last review for the night is Deadpool #49.1... Another Point One issue?! Anyway, this promises to be a musical, and if it's true to form, this will either be laugh out loud hilarious, or absolutely terrible... Let's see which way we go.

Deadpool #49.1:

Summary: Deadpool recaps the entire Danial Way run on this series... In song. Seriously. Some of the parts are done to a frigging Britney Spears song! Weird... Seeing as this was a TOTAL recap comic book, there's not really much of a review for me to do here.

Thoughts: See, THIS is what I thought these Point One issues were supposed to do! Fill you in on what's been going on in a series if you happened to be a new reader. And this issue did a good job of that... Well, I personally could have done without the musical aspect of it, but I'm sure some people probably enjoyed this one way more than I did. Plus there was a Dr. Bong and Daken cameo, so that helped bump up my enjoyment of this one. As it was, there were a few parts here that got a chuckle out of, but for somebody like me, who knew all of the storylines Pool sang about, this comic was kind of unnecessary for me to read.

Score: 6 1/2 out of 10.

Deadpool #49

Awesome, it's the final part of Deadpool vs Evil Deadpool! No matter how this one ends, Evil Deadpool shall now and forever be one of my favorite comic book villains!

Deadpool #49:

What Happened: Captain America lays down the law to Interpol, stating that he would be leading the team to take Deadpool down. Why does Cap feel the need to ruffle Interpol's feathers? Because he's awesome. Evil Deadpool leads New York City's police commissioner into a trap by leaving him a letter stating where the commissioner's children where being held. At the same time, Deadpool has headed to the same location to battle his evil counterpart, and after the two have a quick fight, Evil Deadpool leaves, allowing Deadpool to place some explosives around hoping to... um, reverse trap Evil Deadpool. Instead, the police commissioner enters the warehouse this was all taking place in and upon seeing Deadpool and the explosives figures Pool was planning on blowing him and his kids up(who were locked in a separate room unbeknown to Deadpool... D'oh!). The commissioner knocks Deadpool down with the butt end of his automatic rifle and Evil Deadpool teleports in and swipes the detonator for Deadpool's explosives, pushing the button... But wait! Deadpool was FINALLY one step ahead of his evil doppleganger and we see that the explosives Deadpool placed on the walls of the warehouse were duds and that the real explosives were in Deadpool's bag, which was near Evil Deadpool. With Evil Deadpool temporarily out of commission, Deadpool frees the commissioner's kids from their locked room and tells the commissioner to get the hell out of Dodge. With the commissioner and his kids out of the way, Deadpool prepares to square off against Evil Deadpool, but the two Pools are interrupted by Captain America and his agents. Cap demands the two Deadpools surrender, which leads to Evil Deadpool pulling a gun on Cap. Before he can fire, a dart hits Evil Deadpool in the neck and Cap's men open fire. Cap demands his agents cease fire, and when Cap and Deadpool look down at Evil Deadpool they realize that the mystery dart had seemingly robbed Evil Deadpool of his healing factor, granting him what Deadpool himself always wanted... Death. This issue ends with Deadpool seemingly teleporting away with Evil Deadpool's corpse.

The Good: We got a whole lot of Deadpool on Evil Deadpool fun here. The ending, with Evil Deadpool actually dying, sets up a very interesting next storyline, as it seems that DP is FINALLY closer to his longtime wish. What can I say, as a Cap fan I enjoyed seeing him pull rank and take the investigation away from Interpol... I'm a Cap fan, sue me! I'll be very curious to see who fired the dart that de-powered Evil Deadpool's healing factor.

The Bad: Evil Deadpool? Dead?? Boooo!!!! For whatever reason, this issue just never clicked for me the way I expected it to... I mean the scenes with Deadpool and Evil Deadpool were fun and all, but after seeing Evil Deadpool get the better of Deadpool for the past few issues, the way Deadpool beat Evil Deadpool seemed like a bit of a letdown.

The Verdict: Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed this comic book, but I can't help but think I should have enjoyed it more than I did... Something was just a bit off here... Oh well, I enjoyed the hell out of the first few parts of this issue, and am thoroughly looking forward to the next Deadpool storyline, so no real complaints from me.

Deadpool #48

Next(and last) review for today? Deadpool! I don't know about anybody else, but I've been LOVING this Deadpool vs Evil Deadpool story thus far. Here's hoping it continues to be as good(and hilarious!) as it's been.

Deadpool #48:

Summary: Evil Deadpool has kidnapped the New York City Police Commissioner's children and poor stupid Deadpool has kidnapped a random little boy simply to try to steal Evil Deadpool's thunder. Deadpool figures Evil Deadpool would release the Police Commissioner's kids and go after Deadpool, since Deadpool had upstaged him. Unfortunately, Evil Deadpool could care less about what Deadpool has done, and has managed to get dozens of law agencies from Interpol to the FBI after Deadpool. Oh yeah, plus Evil Deadpool has tricked Captain America into thinking that Deadpool and Evil Deadpool were working together... Yep, Deadpool is right screwed here. Realizing that Evil Deadpool had screwed him but good, Deadpool tosses a bag of explosives out the window of the cab he stole, at which time he tells the child he kidnapped to drive the cab away. Deadpool exits the cab, the kid drives off and the explosives explode(as is what explosives do), which gives Deadpool the chance to hightail it away from the area to try to figure out how to find and stop his evil counterpart. Meanwhile, Evil Deadpool is concocting a trap that will force the Police Commissioner to accidentally kill his own children... Why? Because he's evil!

Thoughts: Meh. This comic was okay, but we didn't get any Deadpool on Evil Deadpool action, thus hurting my enjoyment of this one. Sure, Evil Deadpool and Deadpool are fun on their own, but together they are pure comic book gold! But sadly they were never together here. The story was solid, but the hilarity that had marked the previous few issues wasn't here, and as I've stated before, one of the main things I expect from a Deadpool comic is a few good laughs, which, to me at least, is the most important thing about an issue of Deadpool. Oh well, here's hoping we get the mammoth Evil Deadpool/Deadpool showdown next issue.

Deadpool #47

Last review for the night? How about this week's Pick of the Litter, Deadpool! I gave the last issue of this series a perfect score on account of it being insanely good. Here's hoping this issue is just as good as the last one was.

Deadpool #47:

Summary: So last issue Evil Deadpool tricked Deadpool into running afoul Captain America... So yeah, it sucks to be Deadpool! Deadpool mainly tries to run away from Cap while telling him that all of the EVIL actions that took place the past two issues were done by his evil twin. Needless to say, Cap doesn't buy any of that story, which pisses Deadpool off enough to decide to fight back against Cap. Pool manages to snag Cap's shield out of the air(which even impresses Cap), but misses Cap when he throws it at him... Or does he?!? No, I can tell you he doesn't, as Cap's shield boomerangs back and smacks Cap in the back of the head, giving Deadpool the chance to enact the most prudent plan for when facing Captain America, run away. Meanwhile, Evil Deadpool meets with Mr. Negative and asks for work. Negative tells Evil Deadpool that he wanted him a child murdered, which disappoints Evil Deadpool because he was hoping to kill more than one child... That's why he's EVIL, right there! Deadpool returns to Manhattan, figuring Evil Deadpool would attack his favorite Olive Garden in New York, and is surprised to discover that Evil Deadpool wasn't there. One of the voices in Pool's head figures out that Evil Deadpool was no longer doing the things Deadpool would do, but instead was doing the things Deadpool wouldn't do. While Pool is running around Manhattan, Cap is watching him in utter confusion, trying to figure out what his game was this time. From there we head to Times Square, where Deadpool straps explosives to himself and kidnaps a small boy at gunpoint, figuring that by stealing Evil Deadpool's thunder, Evil Deadpool wouldn't go through with his nefarious child killing plot. From there we skip to City Hall, where the police commissioner gets word that Deadpool had taken a child hostage at Times Square, before discovering that Deadpool(actually Evil Deadpool), had kidnapped his child. Obviously figuring it was Deadpool who took his kid, the police commissioner grabs a rifle and heads towards Times Square. As for poor, stupid Deadpool, he steals a taxi and puts the kid inside, figuring Evil Deadpool, upon learning that Deadpool had stolen his thunder, would rush to Times Square and run into Captain America, who Pool also figured was heading towards Times Square, thus proving that Deadpool did indeed have an evil clone. Unfortunately for Pool, this issue ends with Evil Deadpool getting the jump on Cap and watching the scene in Times Square from a nearby window.

Thoughts: Okay, you know how we play this. When I read an issue of Deadpool, the first thing I ponder is whether or not it made me laugh... Did this issue make me laugh? Yes, it certainly did. Evil Deadpool is a hilariously over the top character. Next on the checklist is the story. Did it make sense(in a Deadpool sort of way)? And again, in a Deadpool sort of way, this story DID make sense. Finally, we go to the dialogue and art. Were they good? Yes. Yes they were. So hey, this WAS a good comic book! Now that's not to say it was all flowers und sunshine, because it wasn't... Captain America was defeated by not only Deadpool, but also by Evil Deadpool in this issue. Now I can accept Cap losing ONCE in a comic, but twice!? Yeah, that grated on me a bit. That, combined with the fact that Deadpool and Evil Deadpool didn't come face-to-face in this issue will unfortunately keep it from once again achieving a perfect score. But with that said? This was still a hell of a good comic book.

Deadpool #46

It's Deadpool vs EVIL Deadpool! 'Nuff said!

Deadpool #46:

Summary: This issue gets started proper with Deadpool heading to his favorite Mexican restaurant in New Jersey, only to find that some fiend had blown it up. The fiend? EVIL Deadpool!!! Needless to say, the two Deadpool's meet and the fight is on. The two battle for a while until they run out of ammo, at which time they decide to reschedule the fight for later on after they'd reequipped... HA!!! Deadpool heads to the warehouse where he kept his good toys, but alas, EVIL Deadpool, knowing what Pool was going to do, had arrived first and had gotten his hands on Pool's good weaponry. However, it turns out Pool had rigged all of his good weapon warehouses with explosives after he ran afoul Norman Osborn back during the bad old HAMMER days, and blows the place up. Pool smugly figures that the explosion had killed EVIL Deadpool, until he thinks about it and realizes that if he had been able to take cover, EVIL Deadpool probably did as well. Pool turns around and finds EVIL Deadpool standing behind him with an automatic rifle, taunting him. Pool is pissed by this turn of events and tells EVIL Deadpool to just pull the trigger and finish it, but instead, EVIL Deadpool surprises Pool by ducking out out of sight. Pool is obviously confused by THAT turn of events, and stands there trying to figure out what EVIL Deadpool was going to do next, seeing as that they share the same brain and all. Pool is suddenly smashed in the head by a flying shield, which surprises him since that's NOT the move he would have made in EVIL Deadpool's shoes. When Pool turns to deal with what he figured would be EVIL Deadpool, he is shocked to see Captain America(!!!) standing there, telling Deadpool he was being taken in.

Thoughts: This... Comic... Was... AWESOME!!! First off, I must have laughed through the ENTIRE issue... And as I've said before, the main thing I want out of a Deadpool comic is to be entertained, and I sure as hell was with this one. Besides that, the story, the dialogue and the art? They were fantastic. The interaction between Pool and EVIL Deadpool was flat out perfect. And the Cap appearance at the end? I NEVER saw that coming for one second. Now I score Deadpool comic books a bit differently than I score regular comic books in that I'll score it higher if it's funny even if other aspects of it aren't up to snuff. With that said, not only does this comic get a 10 as a Deadpool comic, it gets a 10 as a regular comic. This one ruled.

Deadpool #45

From the cover, I'm thinking this is going to be a fantastic issue of Deadpool. Now I've been fooled by covers before(most recently Avengers #18), but this time I'm SURE the events depicted on the cover of this one will happen inside!!!

Deadpool #45:

Summary: This issue gets started with EVIL DEADPOOL(!!!) hijacking a private jet in order to get back to the US from the UK. While Evil Deadpool is flying in luxury and torturing people, Deadpool is sailing back to the States aboard a boat that was smuggling girls from eastern Europe where they'll undoubtedly be forced into various unsavory situations. DP puts a stop to that and kills all of the smugglers on the boat, and then pilots the boat back to the States himself because he used to be a pirate(sweet, continuity!). After dropping the girls off at the Russian Consulate in Manhattan, DP decides to walk to New Jersey in order to eat at his favorite Mexican restaurant. As for Evil DP, he also has a craving for Mexican food and teleports off of the private jet(after murdering everybody on board), heading to the same restaurant DP was heading towards. Unfortunately for DP, he doesn't make it to the restaurant on account of the private jet Evil DP was riding in crashing onto the bridge DP was walking across to get to Jersey.

Thoughts: First off, Evil Deadpool's reverse color word bubbles? Genius!!! As for the rest of this issue? Once again, genius!!! You see, my expectations for a Deadpool comic are slightly different than my expectations for most of the other comic books I read... What I want more than anything from a Deadpool book is to laugh. And to be honest with you, I literally had a smile on my face for this entire comic book. It was fantastic. Evil Deadpool was perfectly written, I mean he even had the same voices in his head that DP has, but telling him to do terrible things. So yes, I enjoyed this comic book a ton and can't wait for the next issue where DP and Evil DP finally meet... THAT should be all sorts of awesome!

Deadpool #44

Wow, I've already reached the bottom of this week's new comic pile... And it's only Saturday... What is this world coming to?!? As always, reaching the bottom of the comic pile is a bad thing for two reasons. The first being the fact that now I don't have any new comics to read. The second? The comics at the bottom of the pile are the ones I've been avoiding because I have such low expectations for them. On that cheerful note, here's Deadpool!!

Deadpool #44:

Summary: Thanks to the Queen of England(yes really), Deadpool has decided to stop crazy Dr. Whitby before she killed anybody else in his name. You see, Whitby is in love with Pool, and as such wants to be like him... Or something along those lines... To that end Pool breaks into Whitby's apartment and finds that she wasn't home. He does discover some various body parts of his frozen in her freezer, which is enough to make Pool vomit in his mask at the prospect of what Whitby was planning on doing with the Pool pieces. After a quick look around, Pool figures out that Whitby intended to murder the warden of the prison/mental institution she was working at. Upon arriving at the warden's place, Pool spies Whitby waiting inside with a gun and knocks out the warden before he could enter. Pool enters the apartment and tells Whitby he wasn't going to tolerate her killing people in his name, so Whitby blows the apartment up. Pool, thanks to his healing factor, emerges relatively unscathed and heads back to Whitby's place to get rid of his frozen body parts, which he bags and tosses in a dumpster. While Pool is pondering why he hated Whitby so much, Whitby staggers into her apartment a burnt up mess. Whitby babbles a bit before putting her handgun in her mouth and pulling the trigger, killing herself(this time for real... I think...). Tired of England, Pool decides it was time to leave. This issue concludes with some garbage men realizing in horror that the bags of body parts Pool tossed out had thawed and were moving.

Thoughts: First things first, I'm glad this storyline is finally over. Here's hoping we can go more than 6 issues before we get another Deadpool love story this time. I really don't have all that much to say about this comic actually... It was okay. It wasn't great, and I probably won't remember it in two months time, but it was good enough to pass the time. I will say this though, the prospect of a patchwork, Frankenstein Deadpool showing up to face down Pool is GREAT! One thing Pool really hasn't had during this series is a good reoccurring foe, and who better for Pool to feud with then himself?!

Score: 6 1/2 out of 10.Well, at least it was only one severed head...

Deadpool #43

One more Marvel comic on tap from last week before tomorrow brings me a whole bunch of new comics to read. This week's bottom of the barrel Marvel comic? Deadpool... That should tell you how much my enjoyment of this series has fallen in recent months. Out of like 14 comic books last week, this was the thirteenth one I read.

Deadpool #43:

Summary: Having escaped from his crazy, obsessed-with-him doctor by kicking her in the face, Deadpool is still hiding out in England trying to figure out what his next move should be. Before Pool and the voices in his head can figure out a plan, the aforementioned doctor, Dr. Whitby, arrives in Pool's hideout and reveals that she was wearing a skimpy Deadpool-style outfit. After Pool gets over the utter repulsion of seeing Whitby stuffed into that outfit, he brains her with a handgun and storms off to continue planning his next step. Eventually, Deadpool manages to sneak into a carriage carrying the Queen of England and begins telling her his troubles. Upon hearing that Whitby was a doctor in charge of patients in England, the Queen promises Pool she'd look into matters personally. That relieves Pool a bit, but he's still tasked with trying to sneak out of the Queen's carriage. Pool accomplishes that by taking the Queen's clothes and having her put on the clothes of one of her guards. Pool manages to sneak away in the ensuing confusion(complete with dress and crown), and decides he had to deal with Whitby since she was his responsibility, not the Queen's.

Thoughts: Well, the story was out and out ludicrous, but it had it's funny moments. Pool repeatedly kicking/pistol-whipping Whitby definitely wasn't one of them though... Yeah, she's nuts, but she didn't deserve that kind of punishment. Thankfully this storyline finishes up next issue where Pool will hopefully conclude his outrageous English adventure and get back to doing whatever it was he used to do when I liked this series...

Deadpool #42

It's the latest issue of Deadpool!! After 14 reviews over the course of the last 5 days, I've run out of opening lines... Um, enjoy?

Deadpool #42:

Summary: While Deadpool is peacefully dreaming that he's married to Death, Foolkiller is preparing to do what his name entails... Kill him some fools! Having instigated a riot to get at Deadpool, Foolkiller attacks Pool and bludgeons him, but gets no reaction from Pool. Angry that Pool wasn't reacting, Foolkiller goes to take off Pool's mask, which snaps Pool back to consciousness. Now coherent, Pool beats up most of his fellow inmates, before getting pinned down by and strangled by Foolkiller. It's at this point that Foolkiller reveals that he was in love with Dr. Whitby, and saw Pool as a rival for Whitby's affections. After Pool arrived, Whitby signed off on Foolkiller's parole, furthering his belief that Whitby loved Pool and was spurning him. Seeing a way out of prison, Pool convinces Foolkiller to switch places with him, which leads to Foolkiller(wearing Pool's mask) being locked up in solitary for causing the prison riot, while Pool(in Foolkiller's bandages) being released from the prison. Whitby goes to talk to “Pool” and learns that it was actually Foolkiller, at which point she runs outside and catches Deadpool making good his escape. Instead of turning Pool in or anything, Whitby declares her love for Pool, ending this one.

Thoughts: Um, okay... I guess... I liked the way Pool manipulated Foolkiller into switching places with him(it all made perfect sense in a wacky, Deadpool sort of way), but the reveal at the end, that Whitby loved Deadpool, really left me kind of flat. I mean seriously, what does that lead to? Pool and Whitby living together? Pool trying to leave Whitby? We just had a Deadpool “romance” story(back when Wade was married to his space-wife), so I don't get the Whitby angle here. I trust Dan Way implicitly, but this ending definitely didn't leave me eager to read the next issue...

Score: 5 1/2 out of 10.Just for the record, I'd watch this sitcom.

Amazing Spider-Man #667 & Deadpool #41

After a quick pit stop over at DC, it's back to Marvel with the latest issues of Deadpool and Amazing Spider-Man... Unless you're reading this a few months from now, in which case these AREN'T the latest issues of these series...

Amazing Spider-Man #667:

Summary: This issue opens with Peter Parker's girlfriend, Carlie, revealing to him that she now had spider-powers. How did this happen? It appears that the Jackal, at the behest of a mystery woman, has managed to infect bedbugs throughout New York with some sort of disease(? Virus? Serum?) that transmits Spider-Man's abilities to others with their bite. While Spidey is trying to puzzle out what to make of his girlfriend's newfound powers, the Jackal has called a meeting with several mobsters who had also gained spider-powers. Jackal takes credit for their newfound abilities and tells the criminals that he wanted them to tear the city apart, but that he wanted them to do it dressed as Spider-Man himself. The following day, Jackal's army of evil fake Spideys take to the streets of Manhattan and begin to run amok. Spidey and Carlie hear about the carnage after dropping Aunt May and Jay Jameson off at the airport and Carlie decides to run off to help. Not wanting to see his girlfriend hurt, Spidey switches to his Spidey outfit and rushes towards the scene of the insanity. Before he arrives, several of New York's heroes(including a few Avengers and yes, Wolverine) have already arrived on the scene and are trying to take down dozens of villains with the powers of Spidey. By the time Spidey arrives the battle is in full effect and the heroes immediately confuse Spidey for one of the fake Spideys and attack him... HA! This issue ends with Spidey laid out in the street along with several of the fake Spideys.

Thoughts: This was the opening act of the Spider-Island storyline, and it was a good start. The dialogue was great, as anything written by Dan Slott usually is, the story was good, the art was really good(and kudos to Humberto Ramos and Carlos Cuevas for having to draw several different versions of the Spidey costume during those last couple of chaotic pages!), I really have no complaints. Sure, we could have learned more about Jackal's plans, but that's what the next few issues will detail I'd guess. Um, let's see, Jackal's dialogue was so good that he's rapidly climbing up my list of favorite Spidey villains, it was fun watching Spidey get pulped by his teammates, and one of the criminals was wearing Ben Reilly's old Scarlet Spider costume(the original one with the hood!). In other words, good stuff all around!

Score: 8 1/2 out of 10.Jackal = Awesome... Who knew?


Deadpool #41:

Summary: Deadpool is still in the nuthouse, and after beating the hell out of all the other loons, has become the de facto king of the crazyhouse. Well, except in the eyes of Foolkiller, who still wants to kill Deadpool and as such has been locked in solitary confinement by Dr. Whitby, who seemed to be getting more and more obsessed with Pool. Whitby decides to cure Pool of his lunacy by making him put together puzzles depicting scenes of his murders, with the idea being that by looking at the crime scenes from an impartial point of view Pool would be able to identify with his victims... Or something along those lines. However, instead of getting saner, the puzzles are making Pool tired all the time, as well as causing him to forget things. In other words, he's becoming very un-Deadpool-like. While Whitby frets over what to do about this turn of events, Deadpool receives a piece of mail from himself, containing a picture of Charlie Chaplin... The hell?! Pool is as baffled by that as I am, and this issue ends with some of the guards accidentally letting Foolkiller out of solitary during one of Pool's many naps.

Thoughts: Um, okay then. This was a LONG comic book... It wasn't like it was double-sized or anything, but it just took a long time to sift through. And the problem with comic books that are paced really slow? They tend to bore me. And sadly, that's exactly what this issue did. It just kept going, without really getting anywhere. Deadpool is still in the nuthouse and he's still crazy, he's just a different shade of insane now. Whitby still can't figure out how to cure Pool, and Foolkiller still wants to kill Deadpool. With the exception of Pool's slightly different madness, this issue held steady from the last. By the end, I was as tired as Deadpool!
