Review: This issue opens with the Sinestro Corps(minus Sinestro)preparing to attack the Weaponer and the Qwardians. The Green Lantern Honor Guard doesn't want to see any loss of life, so they step in to defend the Qwardians, without openly attacking the members of the Sinestro Corps, which would've restarted the war between the two factions. This leads to a stalemate, with John Stewart ferrying the Qwardians inside of the Weaponer's castle hoping to find something to help defend the Qwardians against the Sinestro Corps attack. By this point Sinestro arrives on the scene and is immediately attacked by the Weaponer. Sinestro shrugs off EVERYTHING the Weaponer throws at him(REALLY?!?!?)and prepares to kill him. However he is halted by the timely arrival of John Stewart and a bunch of Qwardians carrying weapons.
Thoughts: Okay, I have one MAJOR gripe with this comic... When the HELL did Sinestro become more powerful than Ganthet, who is probably the oldest and presumably the most powerful of the Guardians of the Universe?! I mean Ganthet was defeated by the Weaponer last issue in a matter of panels with a NET! A NET!!! This issue we get Sinestro standing through EVERYTHING the Weaponer threw at him, shrugging it all off, and then nearly killing the Weaponer! What gives? So I'm supposed to believe that Sinestro is more powerful than the Guardians(who have been established as some of the most powerful creatures in the entire DCU), and yet he can't defeat Hal Jordan(who works UNDER the Guardians)in a fist fight?!?!? My god is the DCU all sorts of messed up nowadays... Thank you Chairman Johns. Before Sinestro's no-selling antics, this was a pretty good comic. But after that? My enjoyment of this story whittled away to almost nothing. Please let Sinestro get just a little beat up by somebody other than Hal “The only Green Lantern that matters” Jordan next issue... That's all I ask. If Sinestro at least gets knocked down next issue I'll bump the score up an extra 1/2 no matter what I thought of the rest of it.
Score: 7 1/2 out of 10.Um, really?!?

Well... and this is going out a on a limb, maybe Guardian's powers are shared throughout the Guardians, and since Ganthet stepped down as a Guardian and is just a Lantern, he now has the powers of a typical Lantern?
ReplyDeleteYeah, I see what you're saying, but how weird would it be for Ganthet to be like, "Well, since I'm not going to be a Guardian anymore, take away my powers and make me vulnerable." If he was a Watcher or something, then yeah, I could see that. Plus doesn't Ganthet still blast those helix/circle blasts that all the other Guardians blast? Meh, I COULD see what you said be the explanation, JT, but I wouldn't like it!
ReplyDeleteI can't comment on the helix blasts, but I could see it. I mean he pretty much demoted himself to be on the front lines, I doubt they'd allow him to keep those powers for that reason.
ReplyDeleteThat just seems so odd... It would be like stripping Sodam Yat of his powers or that rocky buy of his strength when they got the rings. I mean why wold you do that? Wouldn't Ganthet have a better chance at succeeding with both a ring AND his Guardian abilities?
ReplyDeleteI mean not really? Because the people you named already had power to begin with. Far as I know the Guardians didn't have as much power prior to creating the Corps as they do now, if so, then why even create the Corps in the first place? I'd say being a Guardian is probably comparable to having Ion, then stepping down, you'd just be a regular GL.
ReplyDeleteYeah but the Guardians DID create the GLC, the Power Battery, the Manhunters and all that jazz. They'd have to be full of power to do that. Hell, they stood up to and fought the Anti-Monitor during the Sinestro Corps War, no? And that thing is like a god in the anti-matter universe. As for why create the Corps? Idk, laziness maybe? Maybe there were too few of them to police the entire universe so they needed help(first from the Manhunters, then the GLC). I mean I always saw the Guardians as high powered cosmic beings, but maybe I'm wrong... During Emerald Twilight Hal killed them all except Ganthet, so maybe their powerset is overrated...
ReplyDeleteYeah, cause if Hal could kill them with rings THEY made... then I'd assume the Corps could kill the Guardians right? Someone needs to explain that huh?
ReplyDeleteYeah man, that definitely needs some 'splainin. I mean the Guardians power-sets always seem to change. One day they can stand toe-to-toe with the frigging Anti-Monitor, the next they all get defeated by one single rogue Guardian... It just makes no sense. Then again, it's DC we're talking about, so of course it makes no sense!
ReplyDeleteYeah, that definitely needs clarification. Because I mean, theoretically, if Supes can beat a GL, and a GL can beat the Guardians, then shouldn't Supes or Sodam be able to defeat the Guardians alone?
ReplyDeleteExactly! And if that's the case, then why the hell are the Guardians even needed?
ReplyDeleteExactly. They have no power but make tons of decisions.... much like congress. Hiyoooooooo
ReplyDelete*cough cough* Moving on... :D
ReplyDeleteLmao, why must we move on?
ReplyDeleteWell after that joke, I figured it would be best to move on! :D
ReplyDeleteYeah, we don't want your blog to be seized by the US Government. :D
ReplyDelete...Or do I... Bwahahaha.
