New Comic Day! August 29th Edition

Hey everyone, JT here with a pretty late/early morning post. I apologize for the lateness, but when life gets in the way, there's not getting around it. Anywho, let's get to this week's comic haul. As always, recommendations for reviews are welcome, I'll try to get everything up if time permits, and feel free to let me know what you guys picked up.

Now, let's get to it! This week I picked up Aquaman 12, Green Lantern Annual #1, Avenging Spider-Man #11, AVX VS. #5, Gambit #2, and Captain Marvel #3. So, six books this week, let me know which ones you guys would like me to review/discuss, and we'll take it from there guys. Til later today, JT signing off!

  1. Hi JT, I am most interested in hearing your thoughts on Captain Marvel 3. I haven't taken the plunge on this series yet, but the art definitely has my attention, and reviews have been generally positive.

Avenging Spidey is a book I probably won't buy, so I'm looking forward to that review as well. I'm buying VS 5 and Gambit 2 for the art alone, so good writing would be a nice bonus.

No interest in the Ultimate Marvel books? They went through a rocky time for a while, with the original creators for UXM and Ultimates bailing mid-arc and USM going through a seemingly endless exposition phase. Lately though, they all seem to be on an uptick, and I really like the Divided We Fall crossover.

  2. Hey Trobb, to be honest, I'm thinking about taking a break this week. I'm slightly burned out from blogging, I work the next four days, for 11 hours tomorrow, and I'm hoping come Wednesday I'll be revitalized if I take a little time off.

As for Cap Marvel, I haven't read it yet, but Avenging Spider was cool, I'd probably have given it a 7, 7.5, since it was a nice story with Aunt May.

Nah, I didn't enjoy Ultimate X-Men, and I have the first 3 Ultimates vols on my to-read list, so I'll probably read Ultimates later, although I do read Ult. Spidey as you know.

  3. I understand, blogging is tough-you want to put good stuff out in a timely manner, but life doesn't stop to give you time for it. Take your break, and let me know if I can help. I'd be happy to kick you a review or two if you're busy.

Ultimates 1 and 2 are brilliant. Ultimates 3 has crappy writing, but great art by Joe Mad. The new ultimates series has had some great concepts, but the execution has been shoddy to this point. I do have high hopes for Divided We Stand though, and will give Sam Humphries a fair chance to turn things around.

  4. Exactly dude, And I will do. I'm actually talking to a certain someone today about what'll be happening in the near future here at the blog, so that should be interesting.

I keep hearing Ultimates 3 is crappy, but I'm really looking forward to 1 and 2 now.

  5. Hey, JT. If you haven't already, GL Annual is pretty freaking sweet if only for 1. Ethan Van Sciver's art (I don't like his political views but damn can he draw) and 2. It sets up for so goddamn much. Those Third Army things are freaking weird!

I don't know if you stopped buying Justice League, but I have to say #12 was my favorite of this story arc. I agree the series overall has been kinda lack-luster but it's worth buying even for the "Coming in the second year of Justice League" page and to see who leaves the League.

  6. I actually did read GL Annual, I liked it for the most part, and like you said, it did set up a lot of stuff for the future. I did pick up Justice League as well and that issue was cool, I am interested in the stuff they set up on the coming in the Second year but... DC isn't always known to stick to their preview pages. Hopefully they do.
