"Men of War, Mister Terrific, O.M.A.C., Hawk and Dove, Blackhawks and Static Shock are all coming to a close, with DC editor-in-chief Bob Harras quoted as saying, "These characters' stories will continue. It's all part of that world building we're very keen on here."

As for the new series DC is putting out? I won't be picking up any of them.
Sad news. I thought OMAC and Men of War were really good, and although Static Shock didn't grab me, I thought it had serious potential. And other than Batman Incorporated, I don't see any of those new titles lasting much longer than the newly-cancelled ones...
ReplyDeleteI'm not surprised by the cancelled series. OMAC seemed to have a bit of a following, but it just had cancellation written all over it. I read the first few issues of Static Shock and didn't care for it. The story was exactly the same for the others. I also don't see much point in any of the new titles. The Earth 2 title might do OK, but I HATE that they have to have an Earth 2. Just put the heroes in the same damn universe. I assume this is where they'll stick Captain Marvel and Huntress, and that's stupid. There should be a place for them in the main DCU. I didn't like Batman Inc the 1st time, so won't now I'm sure. The others just seem pointless.
ReplyDeleteX75, you are absolutely correct in regards to DnA following up on the Xman annual. Within, Forge stated future Nate calls the other earth (reality 616) the Age of Heroes...but why? The answer is simple and DnA are geniuses! In truth, Norman Osborn found Nate Grey and is mostly responsible for his return during latter part of Dark Reign. But when defeated by Norman Osborn's dormant entity/split personality Green Goblin, Grey was imprisoned on that machine. His liberation truthfully came after Osborn was defeated and the Dark Era came to an end (though I'm cloudy on specific details) by none other than the Heroes of 616. Wow! This led to Scott Summers being able to focus on finding Nate, but only after Hope was secure and Osborn was completely defeated. When Nate is found by the team New Mutant/X-men, he is now in the hands of Sugarman because Osborn no longer had possession of him after being defeated and locked away thanks to all the Heroes that ended his reign and all things in Osborn's possession including the machine Nate was hooked up to. Let's add this too, after Osborn was shut down, Captain America...no, Commander Steve Rogers (Bucky hadn't been removed as Cap - as you said, pre-Fear Itself) was taking control of all Osborn's operations in the same New Mutant issues in which they located and saved Nate right under Roger's nose. On top of that, Rogers allowed Nate to go to Utopia under Summer's request...a nice and decent gesture I'm sure Nate will thank him for when given the opportunity. Put that with the X-men nursing Nate back to health, can you see why Nate would have such an appreciation and LOYALTY to the Avengers, SHIELD, and the X-men (all of which are in fact now his personal Heroes who both saved him and had a hand in stopping Osborn's madness....something Nate planned to stop himself single-handedly when he wielded all his powerset before being defeated by Osborn/Green Goblin), so much so that he would personally honor earth 616 as the labeled AGE OF HEROES. NOTE: I also find it ironic that Sugarman tortured Nate on the machine because it was Nate who spoiled his plans in the Xman Annual, therefore it was vengeance on Sugarman's part. Makes complete sense, just saying. But why use Sugarman way out of left field DnA (Sugarman had disappeared from comics for months)?...It's because you guys stayed true to that Xman annual!!! Sooo....this question is for you X75: After Forge referenced future Nate calling the other earth Age of Heroes, Nate pointed to the Onslaught event and blamed Charles Xavier (and Magneto) for the disappearance of the Heroes. Forge then stated to Nate that future Nate said it was because Xavier EXISTS that Nate's Age of Heroes (earth 616) never became the Age of Apocalpyse. The fact that future Nate (a Nate Grey that at present is still developing into thanks to DnA and who hasn't returned to AOA JUST YET to meet with Forge again in AOA Forge's past) makes the statement in present tense is interesting. That would mean that Xavier is alive and will remain so in the not to distant future for Nate. To my recollection Xavier was last involved in that revival of Legion reality warp series. Okay then, Xavier is alive, but do you know where he currently is X? Please get back to me. Anyway, how will Nate get back to the AOA?....huh..this may happen sooner than realized because of the AoA series about to take off spinning from X-force. If that's the case, because DnA is so heavily linked to Xman's historical character, Nate being part of the official X-men (New Mutants is just the name of the comic) may be up for some star treatment fairly sooner than expected especially if used in the AvX event in regards the Phoenix' return. I know for a fact that Hope will due to Cable's ridiculous actions and the warning way back that Frost tried to give Summer's regarding the Phoenix force emitted from young Hope, which, of course, Scott ignored.

ReplyDeleteno the worlds finest book will have huntress with powergirl
capt marvel will be in a back up story in the pages of justice league starting with issue 7 i beleive
statck shock will appear in coming issues of the savage hawkman
Ok Movieartman. Thank you for the info. I did re-read the article and it says World's finest would have Huntress and Power Girl in the DCU. I just misread it the first time. I hadn't heard about Captain Marvel, and am glad they're using him. Thanks again.
ReplyDeleteGood riddance to all those comics. OMAC looked like crap from the beginning and Didio writing it means it more than likely was, and I'm still pissed how they ruined Static who had a ton of potential. Hawk and Dove...no comment. Anyway, none of the new books interest me except for the Power Girl/Huntress book which has potential.
ReplyDeleteI think that is the problem. Quite a few of these had potential but I can't really merit buying these to see if they finally live to it. With all the hype of these new 52s they were so slow to actually do anything with them. Most every comic I have read in the DCnU is still in its setup when it has been quite a few months (Especially when we more/less know these characters).
ReplyDeleteI really like the idea that Nate would have loyalty/thanks for SHIELD/Cap for helping save him/allow Lord Summers to take him to Utopia, Radtrainer. I hope when all is said and done, and the AvX stuff has ended, THAT gets explored more. Imagine a fully powered Nate as a member of the Avengers... After what you've pointed out, it DOES sound like DnA did lean heavily on that X-Man annual when they brought Nate back. Like you said, why else use Sugar Man, who, to my knowledge, had nothing to do with Osborn or HAMMER(Dark Beast on the other hand was one of Osborn's Dark X-Men). As for Xavier, I THINK(and I may be wrong, because I only JUST started reading X-Men Legacy again now that Christos Gage is writing it) Xavier ended up going away with Legion or something. He must still be around, because he spoke to Wolverine in Wolverine and the X-Men #1 right before Wolvie opened the school. The fact that the AOA still exists also makes it seem likely that a future version of Nate would be able to cross back over to the AOA, head to the AOA's past and talk to Forge. With regards to Nate, and Nate alone, the AvX stuff should be interesting since he is firmly on Lord Summers side of things, but as you pointed out, he SHOULD have some loyalty to Cap and the Avengers. However, with Nate striking up a friendship with Hope, I'd expect him to be steadfastly behind Lord Summers for whatever crazy actions he decides to take that gets the Avengers after him and the rest of Utopia.
ReplyDeleteHA! I tend to be in line with JT's thinking about this situation... If I would have started a pool as to which of the New DC books would get canned first(damn, I really should have...), OMAC, Hawk and Dove, Blackhawks and Men of War would have been RIGHT at the top of the list. Seriously, some of the creative staffs on those books were flat out laughable! I will say this, I AM a bit surprised that DC is pulling the plug on those 6 books already. I figured all of the relaunched DC books would get at least 12 months before they were killed, but I guess not. I still say it's a shame Static Shock got canned, but seriously, that is a character that NEEDED to be placed on the Teen Titans, and THEN given a solo run. A solo run right out of the box for Static seemed odd from the start. I mean how does DC figure a Static Shock solo would sell, but not a Red Robin solo?
ReplyDeleteI've got to say, that Power Girl/Huntress book doesn't look that interesting to me at all. Why exactly are they refugees from Earth-2? On top of that, like Vancelot said, why the hell IS there an Earth-2?!? I thought the whole idea of the new 52 and all this crap was to make DC comics more accessible and less confusing to newer fans. How is a whole different dimension making ANYTHING less confusing!? Wouldn't it have the opposite effect? So now Earth-2 PG and Huntress will be running around... Yeah, THAT won't confuse casual/newer readers... Personally, the series I'm most intrigued by out of the 6 new ones is the Ravagers series, which I'd suspect stars Rose Wilson. That one I MAY give a chance to...
And Jermox, you really hit the nail on the head with your last comment where you said that many of the new books were slow to actually set stuff up. Most of these series are STILL in the set-up stages, 5 months in! I think the problem is that so many of the rebooted characters are SO different from their pre-reboot selves that the writers NEEDED the extra months to try to establish who their characters were now and why we should care.
I'M REALLY PISSED WITH THIS SHIT HOW ARE THEY CANCELLING O.M.A.C.!!! HAHAHAH KIDING
ReplyDeletenow seriusly wat is the point of cancelling Men of War and Blackhawks, and put a new series called G.I. Combat? I Thought that series already exist (in other company)
AND NOW I AM PISSED AS HELL DC I BOUGHT THE FUCKING HUNTRESS MINI CUZ YOU MADE ME BELIEVE SHE WAS HELENA BERTINELLI THE CHARACTER I KNOW AND LOVE NOT THAT FUCKING SILVER AGE VERSION BRUCE'S DAUGHTER
WHY YOU MADE ME THINK SHE IS BERTINELLI? WHY SHE IS IN A MISSION IN ITALY FIGTHING THE MAFIA IF SHE IS NOT BERTINELLI MAFIA'S PRINCES? FUCK YOU DC!!!
DIAL H? WTF!!! ANOTHER JOHNS BONNER FOR THE SILVER AGE?!
I'm in with Batman Incorporated of course.
HA!!! Check out Alien with the epic rant! Awesome!! :D I'm always glad when I'm not the only one ranting around here!
ReplyDelete"I'M REALLY PISSED WITH THIS SHIT HOW ARE THEY CANCELLING O.M.A.C.!!!" Yeah, I'll admit, I laughed out loud at that line... Mainly because I imagined Dan Didio screaming it out.
Totally agreed on the GI Combat thing... Why cancel your war book and then immediately release a NEW war book? How strange... The Huntress/Earth-2 thing is EXTRA strange though... Like I said, I thought the whole idea of the DC reboot was to clean up DC's history and try to make everything fit/make sense. How the HELL does Bruce Wayne's alternate daughter from another dimension help ANYTHING make sense?! Try explaining THAT to a casual fan... I thought the Helena Bertinelli origin was WAAAAAAAAAAY better than the "Hi, I'm Bruce Wayne's daughter!" origin myself...
And yeah... Why they'd even bother with a Dial H for fucking Hero series blows my mind. They just canceled a mess of books and think THAT is going to last?!? Some weird people run that company...
Ravagers? Really? The plot for that from what I read is basically 4 super powered teens running from a group that wants to make them supervillains. If that's not Teen Titans than I don't know what the hell is, just with a bit of Runaways mixed in but I highly doubt it's as enjoyable. So who's gonna pop up, maybe Rose, Jericho, and some Gen-13 people? Snooooore.
ReplyDeleteHA! Check out Mr. Negative over here! :P I didn't say I was going to pick it up mi amigo, I just said that out of the new DC books I've heard about, that one sounds the best. Ravager, Fairchild, like you said, maybe a few other Gen13 kids, I'm at least curious. But in all honesty? I can't see myself picking up any of those books.
ReplyDeleteYea this doesn't surprise me a bit even though omac was getting some pretty decent praise. The guys at my LCS mentioned before the reboot that all titles will get at least 6 months. Then it all comes down to numbers so this didn't surprise me a bit...
ReplyDeleteNow is Confirmed Huntress is Helena Wayne, http://www.newsarama.com/comics/paul-levitz-worlds-finest-earth-2-120113.html
ReplyDeleteI HATE YOU DC!!! WHAT'S THE FUCKING POINT, WHO REMEMBERS ANY STORY WITH HELENA WAYNE? SHE DIED BACK IN THE FIRST CRISIS!!! AND WAS REPLACES FOR A MUCH BETTER VERSION!!! SHE WAS PART OF THE JLA, SHE HAD A PRECIOUS ROLE IN NO MANS LAND WAHT IS YOUR FUCKING PROBLEM DC!!!
I still think 6 months isn't anywhere long enough to decide the fate of new books, Cap. I'm not really keen on 9 months either. But I guess DC saw that the numbers for those 6 books kept sliding and weren't gaining any ground, thus them getting the hook. But with DC pretty much starting from scratch, I would have expected them to give some extra leeway to the series starring the 2nd and 3rd string characters. How can you build a fan base for something like OMAC in a half year?
ReplyDeleteHA! The point is that Helena Wayne was around BEFORE the first Crisis, Alien, meaning, to the jackoffs at DC, she's better than the modern version. Because, let's face it, all the Powers-That-Be at DC care about are the characters and concepts that occurred prior to 1980. Why else would they reboot their ENTIRE company to get Wally West out of the way?? Except for Jim Lee... I have to think he's the lone reason the none of the Wildstorm-based DC books were canceled. But the rest of them? Jackoffs.
An cuz bringing Wayne again is not enough they are going to get rid of Helena Betinelli, she is just some chick that borrowed her identity to H.W.
ReplyDeleteYeah if there is any good in that news is that i'm not finishing that mini now FUCK YOU DC, it was already boring anyways, But Helena Wayne is not for what i signed up
That's ridiculous that they are just giving the Helena Bertinelli name away as a alter-ego... That means that the real(OUR!) Huntress can never even come around. She's gone for good... That really sucks and isn't right.
ReplyDeleteGood for you for dropping the series, Alien. The only way DC will get that we're sick and tired of their bullshit is to stop buying the books that do stuff like this. RIP Helena Bertinelli... You will be missed. >:(
