Hey comic fans, JT here so you know what that means!!!! Your day just got much better. Also, it's New Comic Day! Now, before I jump to what I'm picking up and reviewing, I wanna thank all you readers as well as congratulate my buddy X, who after over five years of this blog. finally reached 100 Followers this week, which is a pretty damn impressive milestone if I say so myself. So, congrats to X and thanks to you guys for following what we do here. Now that the sappy stuff is out of the way, let's see what I expect to pick up tomorrow. My haul should consist of Batman #17, Batman and Robin #17, Bedlam #4, Todd the Ugliest Kid on Earth #2, Walking Dead #107, Scarlet Spider #14, Secret Avengers #1 and Uncanny X-Men #1. So with a total of eight books this week, you can expect me to review Batman and Robin #17, Uncanny X-Men #1 and Scarlet Spider #14, and as always my review days are Friday, Sunday and Tuesday. Now, I'll hand things over to my buddy, X, X, X-MAAAAAAN! Til Friday, this is JT, signing off!
Cool, I had no idea we reached 100 followers! That's great! Anyway, it's X, and I'll cut the chit-chat and get right to the meat of this post, the comics! Here are the books I should be picking up... Batman #17, Superboy #17, Team 7 #5, America's Got Powers #5, Clone #4, Fatale #12, Morning Glories #24, Walking Dead #107, Fantastic Four #4, Scarlet Spider #14, Secret Avengers #1, Ultimate X-Men #22, Uncanny X-Men #1. So that's 13 books for me, as I get back into the double digits after two very light(for me anyway) weeks. Now, for this week, something a bit different... Normally my review days are Thursday, Saturday and Monday. However, since Batman #17 drops today, and it's being talked up like it's gonna be huge, I'll have a special Wednesday review for that comic up later on tonight. From there, I'll go back to my regular reviewing schedule. So make sure to check back for that tonight. And that'll do it for me. Until next time, which will be just a few hours, actually, X out.

Damnation, Secret Avengers is out already? If you're a Nick Spencer fan that's good and well, I guess. I'm just annoyed that I will probably be guilted into buying another number 1 that I wouldn't have pulled otherwise.
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to the review of Uncanny. As I said in last week's comment, All-New has become a bit overrated IMO. Very curious to see if Bendis can support two quality X-Books at the same time. Because Bachalo is drawing, chances are I'll pick this up. (dammit, another $3.99 book!)
JT should have that review of Uncanny up on Friday, if I'm not mistaken. Besides Batman, that's probably the book I'm most curious about... It has potential, it's up to Bendis to make it live up to that potential though...
DeleteI can't wait to hear what you guys think of "Batman" #17. I have, not surprisingly, opinions.
ReplyDeleteI would be curious about your review on Secret Avengers #1. I didn't read too much of the old series but the new one is somewhat interesting.
ReplyDeleteSA #1 will be up and posted tomorrow night at 8 or so. I'm just about to sit down and give the rest of my books a read, and SA is right on top.
DeleteOh yea, I also read this week's WATXM and for the first time it actually seemed like it was trying to follow the model of New X-Men. I wouldn't say it was as good as New X-Men but it seemed a lot better than previous issues of WATXM.
ReplyDeleteWatXM is an interesting book. On the one hand, I've really enjoyed the writing, art, and characters, and it was one of the few books that actually thrived during AvX. This has been consistently a nice, light read throughout its existence, with a number of standout issues.
DeleteOn the other hand, I can't really point to any story arcs that I'd strongly recommend. One major weakness of the book is the focus on this new Hellfire club, which frankly I have no interest in whatsoever. 25 issues in, and I still feel this book has yet to reach its potential. Still, I will keep reading to keep up with the offbeat goings-on at the Jean Grey School.
I am back!! ^_^
ReplyDeleteI know I didn't really go anywhere, lol, but once again I have neglected my weekly reads and decided to start reading some old comics. Mainly Marvel, She-Hulk to be specific. DC has really pissed me off with their recent cancellations and they're pretty shitty comics lately and well let's just say I haven't been up to reading some DC and since that's most of my pull list, well won't be for long, I haven't been reading. But I do plan to get caught up and read some stuff from today.
So let's see what I'm looking forwarding to seeing what you [X] and JT have to say in your reviews this week.
JT: Batman and Robin #17, Uncanny X-Men #1 and Scarlet Spider #14
X: Batman #17, Walking Dead #107 [Finally we see what Negan has done] Scarlet Spider #14, Secret Avengers #1, Uncanny X-Men #1.
If you and JT both review Uncanny X-Men I am anxious to see what you both think. :)
Hey, by the way, did you guys read the Descendants saga in the last few issues of "Secret Avengers" before the relaunch. Really amazing stuff. I thought both Remender and Scalera were at the top of their game.
ReplyDeleteReading it now. Loving it. Secret Avengers was never Remender's best work, but as plot-driven comics go (as opposed to character-driven), it was pretty darn good. AvX and the Serpent Crown arcs really fell flat, and I wish Remender had made time to develop the members of the team. Honestly, the most fleshed-out characters of his run were Eric O'Grady, maybe Captain Britain and Father himself.
DeleteSeriously, he did amazing stuff with Eric O'Grady. I was ambivalent about it for most of its run, but these last few issues against the Descendants have been amazing. Totally on the level of Kurt Busiek's Kang War, where he somehow gets to tell an epic story without getting saddled with tie-in issues in other series by the editors. Plus, every time Beast, Captain Britain, and Hawkeye were on a page together, I laughed. Great stuff.
