Amazing Spider-Man #658 & Daken: Dark Wolverine #8

Two more Marvel reviews for you guys today, as I SLOWLY make my way through my comic pile... It's just endless this week! I mean I've done 11 reviews these past 3 days, and that comic pile just WON'T go away!!! *sigh* Oh well, I'll just keep cranking out these reviews until I either finish them all or die trying!

Amazing Spider-Man #658:

Summary: Peter Parker is about to get busy with his girlfriend, Carlie Cooper, when the FF symbol appears in the night sky. Peter tries to think up a way to weasel his way away from Carlie, but luckily for him, she gets called away on police business. Peter heads to the Baxter Building dressed in the classic blue FF costume, which pisses pretty much everybody at the building off. Thing demands that Peter changes into the FF's new white costume, which he does. From there the FF head to a few locations and do some heroic-type things, because that's what they do. The foursome eventually end up in the distant future, and Peter winds up getting some ideas for new designs to use for his day job at Horizon Labs. Reed puts the kibosh on that idea, telling Peter that whatever he sees in the future he can't bring back to the past because that would mess humanity up since they wouldn't be developing at the rate they were supposed to... What a crock THAT is! So if Peter sees something that could cure some terrible disease he SHOULDN'T take it with him?! Anyway, while Peter is hanging out in the future, Carlie goes looking for him at Horizon, since that's where Peter told her he'd be at. Needless to say, Peter isn't there, and Carlie is very suspicious.

Thoughts: Meh. This comic just didn't have the same greatness to it that the past several issues had... I mean it wasn't bad or anything, it just didn't do anything for me. It was more like a forced attempt to show that Spidey was a member of the FF. That's fine and all, but after last issue, I think we all realize that Spidey is an FFer now. We don't need it to be continuously drilled into our heads. I mean I like the FF, but I'd rather Spidey's interactions with them were kept to a minimum in this series, with the exception of a rare x-over. But that's just me.

Score: 7 out of 10.What a jerk...

Daken: Dark Wolverine #8:

Summary: X-23 and Daken slowly get up off the pavement after their fight from X-23 #8. Daken decides he doesn't want to fight anymore, and offers his hand in friendship. X-23 doesn't trust Daken for an instant and walks off. Tyger Tiger, who was apparently watching the fight from the shadows for some reason, approaches Daken and begins to tell him about a few of the problems that were raging throughout Madripoor. Daken pretty much blows her off and tells her to deal with it since he was more intrigued by X-23. Later on, Daken heads to meet with Malcolm Colcord and complains that Colcord wasn't honoring his end of their bargain. While the two men are talking, Gambit and X-23 attack, with Daken telling X-23 to do whatever she wanted with Colcord... Ah Daken... He sure does love his double-crosses... X-23 begins to torture Colcord for information about... her past I guess? While Gambit watches Daken. Daken begins to do his awesome Daken double-talk/flirtation thing with Gambit, but Gambit turns him down flat and eventually attacks Daken. The two fight, and needless to say, Daken handily takes care of the Cajun. While they were fighting, it turns out that Colcord was able to drug X-23 with needle Daken passed to him, which would mark Daken's double double-cross for this issue. With that, Colcord and Daken load X-23 into the trunk of a car, since Colcord's experiments would be able to progress much more quickly since he had a mutant with a healing factor(X-23) to work on.

Thoughts: I liked this issue a lot. It was classic Daken at his best... Betraying people, DOUBLE betraying people, messing with minds, getting beat up, beating people up, in other words, it was a Daken tour-de-force! I still have NO idea what the deal with Daken and Colcord is(I guess Daken wants Colcord to do the adamantium bonding thing to him?), why they're working together, how they met, etc. I'm sure we'll learn what the deal is there... Eventually. Um, that's about all I can think to say here...

Score: 8 1/2 out of 10.No, Daken! You don't know WHERE Gambit has been...

  1. X! Keep the good Daken reviews/scores coming because after reading a Deadpool trade with Daken in it that JT let me borrow, I instantly fell in love with him! Lol He's so, words can't even describe. I'm so ready to pick up the Daken Trade (whenever that may happen). Why am I always so late on reading comics with great characters lol.

  2. I think JT has like the whole Wolverine Origins series, which has LOTS and LOTS of Daken. You should see if he'll lend them to you. Better yet, tell him I said that he'd better lend them to you... Or else! :P

  12. oh please , if anything was good in that issue for me it was really good old Remy LeBeau, who Liu gave his cajun glory back! still the fight should have been longer, Gambit knows how to deal with Sabretooth & Logan, for him Daken wouldn't be much of a difference actually, & I'm surprised he did not make him swallow a card! he did it to Ruckus once & it was worth it!

  13. I don't know if you've been following the entire series, Saidi, but Liu has written Gambit REALLY well in the X-23 series. Probably the best since the old X-Men Blue Team days. As for Gambit vs Daken, you already know who I'd take in that fight! The only thing similar in the fighting style between Wolvie/Tooth and Daken is the claws. Daken usually fights more in control and can use those pheromones of his to mess up his opponents head, which means he'd throw Gambit WAY off his game. But I'm sure you know by now how much I like Daken, probably as much as you like Gambit!
