New Comic Day! April 13th Edition.

It's time for another edition of New Comic Day! Hooray! Before I delve into what comics I picked up at the comic book store earlier today, I first have to see how my predictions regarding last week's comics held up... Oh yeah, before I do that, I wanted to mention that I finally finished off all of the Y: The Last Man trades, and should have a few parting thoughts about that series sometime this week. But that's for later, let's take our weekly look back at the far away land know as last week... Last week I was ON with my two picks, with my Pick of the Litter(Avengers: The Children's Crusade #5) getting a full perfect 10 out of 10 score. That is one of the FEW times my Pick of the Litter actually got the vaunted score de perfection. Last week's Runt of the Litter(Brightest Day #23) was as bad as I thought it would be, receiving an abysmal -118 out of 10... Surprisingly that's not even the lowest score I've ever given either! That (dis)honor actually goes to a different issue of Brightest Day... Man I really hate that series...

So last week my comic-senses were ON! Will this week warrant similar results? Well, before I get to what I brought from the comic book store and give my choices for this week's Pick and Runt, let me first list which comics I'm expecting to arrive in the mail(eventually). Birds of Prey #11, Batman and Robin #22, Red Robin #22, Superman #710, Titans #34 & Uncanny X-Men #535. With that out of the way, here's what I picked up at the comic book store earlier today... Uncanny X-Force #7, Superboy #6, Steve Rogers: Super-Soldier Annual #1, SHIELD Infinity, REBELS #27, Justice League: Generation Lost #23, Journey Into Mystery #622, Iron Man 2.0 #3, Hawkeye: Blindspot #3, Deadpool #35, Daken: Dark Wolverine #8, Booster Gold #43, Batgirl #20, Amazing Spider-Man #658, Outsiders #38 & Captain America: The Fighting Avenger #1. That's 16 comics from the shop, as well as 6 subscription books, giving me a grand total of 22 comics for the week... Not bad. Not bad at all! Looking at those books though, I'm realizing that I should probably start reading SHIELD and Gen Lost... Anyway, this week's Pick of the Litter is kind of a tough one... Both REBELS and Hawkeye deserve that honor. Well, since I can't decide, I'm going to name those two books my co-Picks of the Litter! As for the Runt, that “honor” goes to Superboy #6. After the absolute garbage that was the last issue, I have absolutely NO confidence that the current writer(Jeff Lemire) can write an okay story, let alone a great story, so although SB is a favorite character of mine, his series sucks, and so it gets Runt status! Annnnd that's going to do it for me today. I'll post a Random Scan, and then it's time to start reading some comics. Until next time, X out!

  1. Woo, as always, Falisha Ann is here ready for X-Man to get those reviews rolling. I'm definitely waiting to see your review for BOP, maybe it'll get me back into reading the series again.

As for the rest of the comics you've picked up I'll definitely be waiting on your in-depth thoughts of Y, Justice League: Generation Lost #23, annnnd Batgirl #20.

    Can't wait! :)

  2. I know you're reviewing EVERYTHING so I won't make picks, although I would like to see Batgirl and Booster sooner than later. :D Also, Doc BONG FTW!!!!!

  3. Ah, I shall endeavor to get that review for Batgirl done post-haste, guys. Oh, and I notice that Lisha was the first to comment here... Just sayin'... :P

  4. Can't wait for the review, especially since I'm all caught up on everything, well almost everything.

Lol, oh X, aren't I always first in line. ^_^

  5. Bad news, X...CBR gave the last issue of Superboy 2 stars, and they only gave the latest issue 1. That means that the new issue is somehow even worse than the last one! My sympathies for having to read that, my friend...

  6. Wow, check you out, Lisha! Being almost all caught up on all your reading! I can safely tell you that I am not even CLOSE to being almost caught up!

Huh. I actually just read the Supes/Bats Annual and SB in a row since they were both Doomsday x-overs, Marc, and I have to admit, I REALLY enjoyed the SB comic! It worked so well for what it was, basically SB getting his head handed to him... Oh well!

  8. Yeah me and JT spent last night reading comics and I truly enjoyed it. I think I have a couple issues of Sirens, BOP and a issue of Batgirl to read and then I'm officially caught up. And X, you're always adding to your collection, you'll never get caught up! Unless you take a two week vacation with all the necessities and read until your eyes pop! lol.

And Oh, last night, I was reading up on some Flashpoint info @ DC site and was telling JT you should review those comics, that will take place of Brightest day. Lol. Just a thought. Countdown, Flashpoint, either of those horrible comics would do fine! lol.

  9. You know what, Lisha? You're right. I'll never get caught up with all of my various back issues... I think I've finally come to terms with that fact. Oh well.

You know, I was TEMPTED to at least pick up the main Flashpoint mini, but then I was like, "There's NO way in HELL I'm spending money on that crap." I mean Flashpoint would just be the natural thing to replace Brightest Day, but I just can't fathom wasting my $ on it... I just can't! At least I have Countdown laying around here somewhere so I wouldn't have to waste $ on it, only time!

  10. Lol aww one day you will X, one day you will. If I hadn't have dropped some of the comics I was reading, I'd still be playing catch up. And not to mention all the trades I have been collecting up. :|

Lmao, Jeff told me you wouldn't pick up Flashpoint, but I thought maybe, JUUUUST maybe X would pick up a couple. Lol. But I'll definitely be waiting for these Countdown reviews. lol. Ahh I can't wait!

  11. *sigh* That's my dream at least... That one day I'll look around and all of those many piles of unread comics will have been read and put away. Then I can die a happy, but VERY tired man. :D

If I was able to read them for free, I'd DEFINITELY review them, Lisha. But I just refuse to support DC with that series. The fewer people who read Flashpoint the better, because maybe THEN DC would FINALLY realize that we DON'T WANT to read about that damned Saint Barry!!!

  12. X, one day that will happen. You just wait. And you're going to smiiile so hard!! And I'll be there to give you a hug and congratulate you.

Lol, I completely understand X. I won't be following the main story line just some one shots that sound interesting. And I don't see how BD lasted this long. I had this thought that the sales would plummet and DC would hear this red alarm going off seeing sales decline, lol, and they stopped the printing of BD. So much for that. lol.

  13. I like the whole "hug" part of this scenario... I like that a lot! :P

The weirdest thing about BD is the fact that it's been ranked in the top 10 EVERY month since it started!!! Sure the actual sales numbers have gone down, but it's ALWAYS in the top 10! It makes me wonder about the sanity of comic book collectors... But then again, I've brought every issue, so what does that say about me? :P

  14. Top 10 you say? Something tells me that someone were stuffing the vote box! lol.

And X, you've brought joy out of BD with your reviews, lol you get an okay pass for purchasing them lol.

  15. I can't believe it either! BD #21 was the 5th best selling book in March, while BD #22 was the 6th best seller... That just goes to show you, comic collectors are crazy!!! :P

HA!! Well thank you. See, now when I look back and wonder why I brought those horrid comics, I'll always remember your comment! :D

  16. 5th best selling book? I don't understand. It must be some type of collection of their favorite character lol or something.

And you're welcome! :) I'm glad I too could bring some type of joy to this series. Lol.
