X-Men #7

Review: As per the advice of his PR firm, Lord Summers sends his mutant army into the world to do good deeds... Yes, even Wolverine. After a meeting between Lord Summers and the head of the PR firm, Lord Summers decides to send a team of X-Men across the country to New York to investigate rumors of strange reptilian creatures menacing the New York City sewers. Oh, and the team he sends to the sewer would be Wolverine, Emma Frost, Gambit, and Storm, who is a well known to suffer from claustrophobia, thus making this the WORST grouping of X-Men EVER!!! After some crawling around, the X-Men discover a room full of bones, and a bunch of lizard-like creatures who run away. Wolvie charges after the creatures but is tossed aside by Spider-Man(?!??)who tells the X-Men that if they want to get at the lizard creatures they have to go through him.

Thoughts: Well, I didn't think I'd be saying it this soon, but here it is; please bring back the vampires! This comic was alright, but definitely a huge step down from the past 6 issues. Sorry, I don't care about a bunch of psychotic mutants living secluded on Crazy Mutie Island attempting to show the world that they aren't a threat and are actually super-heroes... Because nothing says “not crazy” like an army of mutant separatists living on an island with MAGNETO!!! I mean no PR work in the WORLD can spruce up the image of that man! Why they decided to travel to New York to tackle the lizard problem is also a bit of a mystery, as the X-Men have been operating around San Fransisco... I guess Victor Gischler really wanted that obligatory Spider-Man guest appearance out of the way. As it is, I could care less about this storyline, or the X-Men on this current mission. The sooner we move on, the better.

Score: 6 out of 10.Wolverine, Emma Frost, Gambit and Storm in the NYC sewers... If that's not a recipe for disaster I don't know what is!

  1. X,

I agree. Storm and Gambit are duplicative. They need more strength on the team, maybe even a reptile! Anole anyone?

  2. Yup, totally agree with everything there, Cole. I mean beyond all that, Storm's powers aren't exactly that great in an environment like a sewer, she's claustrophobic, AND she's a queen! She shouldn't be crawling around in some sewer! I'd have bounced Emma and Storm and added Colossus and Anole. Colossus because I think he'd make the most sense dealing with some sewer lizards, and Anole basically because of what you typed. He's a lizard. This is a story about lizards! Wouldn't that have been a perfect fit?

  3. You're right X, that seems like a horrible combination of X-Men to go on a mission...and not one I'd be too keen on reading! As for Spider-Man's appearance, I think Marvel just wanted an excuse to make Chris Bachalo draw Spidey and some lizards again, after the excellent Lizard-centered arc "Shed" that he drew last year. That may not be an entirely bad thing though, since that scan looks pretty darn good to me.

Also, Anole's name has always made me laugh.

  4. Yeah, if I had to pick a 4 person X-team to go into the sewers, I'd probably only keep Wolvie out of this group of 4. The other three? No way.

Okay, I've got to ask, Marc... Why does the name Anole make you laugh?

  5. Have you ever said "Anole" out loud? Maybe I'm pronouncing it wrong, but it sounds like a rather funny word. Well, "funny" if you have the maturity of a fourth grader like I do...

  6. Weird, I have pronounced Anole out loud and never thought anything of it... It might be worth a chat just to hear you say "Anole"!

  7. A chat would be fun! It's been a long time since we did one of those. And if we did, I would certainly treat you all to my version of pronouncing that name!

  8. It really has been! Out of curiousity, do you get a break around President's Day? I think I get mid-semester break around that time, so maybe we could try to get the gang back together again!

  9. I don't believe I have a day off, but I'm sure I could find a way to get online. I'm always looking for ways to waste time! :D

  10. Damn, when do you get a break, Marc?

  11. Not until March 20 or so. No rest for the wicked, I suppose!

  13. Nice! Well I'd certainly be up for a chat this weekend and/or sometime next week. Whenever everyone else is available is fine with me!

  14. Cool! This weekend is probably out of the question, as all of my profs seem to be piling up the papers for this Monday, I guess so they can have those few days off to grade 'em, so I should be pretty busy. But come the middle/end of next week, it should be clear sailing for me! :D
