New Comic Day! January 26th edition.

Hey folks, it's Wednesday, which means it's time for a new installment of New Comic Day! I only have a few minutes to type out this post, since I've got to head back to school in like 40 minutes, so let's skip the preamble and get right to the meat of this post. Last week I promised to deliver a whopping SEVEN reviews(I know, CRAZY!!!), and I managed to post 14 reviews, along with a Quick Hits post with 6 comics showcased, meaning I did a HELL of a lot of work here on the blog this past week! And that's with me dealing with the first week of school! Last week's Pick of the Litter was Avengers Academy #8, and it came away with a very solid 8 1/2, meaning it didn't disappoint. Last week's Runt was Brightest Day #18, and I just haven't wanted to crack that comic open yet, although I AM sure I'll hate it!

Alright, that takes care of last week, let's get to this week. I JUST got back from the comic store and here's what I grabbed... Justice League: Generation Lost #18, Namor #6, Teen Titans #91, Thunderbolts #152, Uncanny X-Force #4, X-Men #7, Zatanna #9, Fantastic Four #587, Shazam! #1, X-23 #5, Deadpool #32, Detective Comics #873, and Avengers #9 for a grand total of 13 new books, WAY better than last week's measly 7. 13 new books means that I will try my damnedest to provide 13 new reviews this week, but hey, if I don't get that done, I'll simply blame school! There really isn't a comic here I'm not looking forward to reading, but if you twisted my arm, I'd say that Namor #6 is this week's Runt of the Litter. This week's Pick of the Litter, well that's Fantastic Four #587 hands down. Hell, I'm so psyched to read that comic that I should have a review of it up and posted here to the blog hopefully by tonight, or at the latest, tomorrow afternoon. And yes, that review will be FULL of spoilers, so if you haven't gotten your copy yet beware my review, because I'll be dissecting everything! And I think that's about that. I only have about 20 minutes left to proof this post before posting it and then leaving, so let me find a suitable Random Scan of the Week and say X out!

The Random Scan of the Week! Why did this team never happen?!?!?!?

  2. I somehow forgot Namor still had a comic. Looking forward to the T-Bolts review, as well as the FF review. Have a good day X!

  3. No problem Lady Death. I'll try to get that comic read and reviewed by tonight/tomorrow at the latest. If it wasn't for that FF comic, Uncanny X-Force is probably the comic I most want to read this week!

Namor's comic is pretty forgettable Kello, so yeah... :P I'll push T-Bolts towards the top of my comics pile and I've already read FF, so reviews for those books should be up within 24 hrs or so.

  4. Wait, YOU didn't pick up Captain America? Must be a subscription title eh? Anyway, after your great reviews I got it. What issue does this arc start anyway so I can try to catch up?

  6. Yeah, sadly Cap is one of my subscription books... If only that wasn't true. Maybe I should list what subscription books I'm expecting as well in this post. I might give that a shot next week. I THINK that's the third or forth issue of the Trail storyline. But I'm not 100% sure. Regardless though, ANY questions you have on that book let me know, JT, and I'll fill you right in. I'll do everything in my power to turn you into a full fledged Cap fan!

Yeah, I can't help but look forward to Zatanna, Lisha... Even with those creepy puppets! :P

  7. Shouldn't be too hard X, after Winter Soldier I was pretty hooked. I'm gonna try to pick up the other two issues of this arc first but if I have any questions I'll ask ya.

  8. Awesome. If you enjoyed Wolvie: Origins, you'll LOVE Cap. Hell, I'd recommend the entire Brubaker run, from the Winter Soldier right up until the present. There was hardly ever a dull storyline. Once again, any questions, hit me up, 'cause the more Cap fans I can create, the better! :D

  9. Will do buddy. If I can find those trades I'll definitely try to catch up between Winter SOlider and now, but between my weird work hours and R&R's each week I'm trying to read a lot of stuff haha. Just picked up Image comics' Morning Glories since I've heard good things, and also some other stuff I wanna read asap.

  10. Anytime you read something you like, even if it's from a *gasp* third party publisher, let me know, JT. I'm always looking for new books to read. I'm loving Invincible, and my sister is really enjoying Fables and Y: The Last Man, so I'm more than willing to read some non-DC/Marvel stuff.

  11. Will do buddy. I have a few Invincible traes that I just never got around to, they may be next on my list after all this other stuff. I think I may just read some issues tomorrow, well that and play Spider-Man Shattered Dimensions.

  12. X, don't hate me but who's the dude in the middle of the pic? I don't recognize him or his symbol.

  13. Invincible was a really great read. I've read through the first 35-40 issues so far, and it was pretty good. I have another hardcover, two trades and a few singles and I'll be completely caught up, JT. Then I can start posting a few Invincible reviews!

No problem, Cole. That would be Starman, star of one of the better 90's comic book series. He really doesn't fit in with the rest of those characters, but I'd have loved to see how DC would have fit those characters together.
