Comic Gazing for: 5/26/10.

Hey, it's time for the final Comic Gazing post for the month of May! There's really no significance to that statement actually... Regardless, I just placed my order for this week and last, so by early next week I should have a bunch of good(and some bad)comics to dig into. And um yeah, that's about as much of an introduction as I'm willing to do tonight! On to the comics!!!

Batman: Return of Bruce Wayne #2: After the horrible first issue, I'm mildly intrigued to see where Grant Morrison goes from there... Interest Level: 3 out of 10.

Gotham City Sirens #12: Interest Level: 6 1/2 out of 10.

Green Lantern Corp #48: Interest Level: 7 out of 10.

Green Lantern #54: I'm SO over Geoff Johns and his writing right now it's not even funny... Interest Level: 6 1/2 out of 10.

Justice League: Generation Lost #2: The first issue was damn good, so here's hoping this issue picks right up from there. Interest Level: 9 out of 10.

Justice League: The Rise of Arsenal #3: I'll be interested to see how Roy survives his run-in with a very angry Cheshire. Interest Level: 8 out of 10.

Superman: War of the Supermen #4: Interest Level: 7 1/2 out of 10.

Teen Titans #83: You know, I've been collecting this series, but not reading it... I REALLY have to find my Teen Titans comics and try to get up to date. Interest Level: 6 out of 10.

Wonder Woman #44: Interest Level: 6 1/2 out of 10.

Dark Wolverine #86: Daken vs Wolverine vs Romulus!!! THIS is the comic of the week for me! Interest Level: 10 out of 10.

Secret Avengers #1: It's an all-new Avengers team and it's written by Ed Brubaker... I can hardly contain my excitement at the prospect of reading this one! Interest Level: 10 out of 10.

Thanos: Imperative Ignition #1: Interest Level: 8 out of 10.

Thor #610: Thor vs Ragnarok??? Hell yeah! Interest Level: 9 out of 10.

Thunderbolts #144: I'm not the biggest Luke Cage fan around, but I'm willing to give this comic a shot. Interest Level: 6 1/2 out of 10.

Wolverine Origins #48: This comic is crossing over with Dark Wolverine, so yeah, to say that I'm interested in it is an understatement! Interest Level: 9 1/2 out of 10.

Wolverine Weapon X #13: Interest Level: 7 out of 10.

A very solid 16 books this week, with 9 DC comics and 7 Marvels. So by looking at those numbers this seems to be a pretty clear win for DC, right? Yes and no... Marvel has three comics coming out this week that I absolutely CAN NOT wait to get my hands on, while DC has... well, only one comic that I'm really excited to read. I can definitely see the pendulum slowly beginning to swing back towards Marvel for me. Geoff Johns, and to a lesser extent Grant Morrison, has savaged DC to such a degree that I'm honestly beginning to lose most of my interest in that fair company, and that's really too bad. But, DC's loss is Marvel's gain. I'd say by August unless things drastically change(which I'm sure they won't)the majority of my money will be heading to Marvel once again...

  1. Sad thing is, I JUST started Wolverine Origins (On issue 35 I believe) and I'm ALREADY more hyped to read Dark Wolverine and Wolverine Origins from this week, as well as ASM than I am for anything on DC with the exception of Gen. Lost. And yeah, I was aboard the Geoff Johns bandwagon but after killing off guys like Choi and the younger Cap. Boomer I'm starting to lose interest in his "Back to the DC Future" writing.

  2. Wooo comic gazing post!!! I figured I'd give you a little excitement for the day. :)

I can't wait to get my hands on a couple of the comics you'll be getting.

Like: Gotham City Sirens #12, Justice League: Generation Lost #2, Wonder Woman #44 (even though the last one sadly disappointed me) and Justice League: The Rise of Arsenal #3 (even though I have the first two issues sitting on my desk). I'll get to those soon. Can't wait for the reviews :)

Noooo don't go to the Marvel Side!!!! Lol. Although, Black Widow has won me over. Lol.

Hope you enjoy your comics! :) And good luck on finishing up your big move. :)

  3. I hear ya JT. You know better then most that I WAS a HUGE Geoff Johns fan(remember, he was my writer of the year two years running), but he's really just wrecking the DCU bit by bit... It's horrible. Oh, and I like the "Back to the DC Future" line so much I may tweak and steal it! As for Dark Wolverine and Origins, they should be off the charts great this week!

I originally came from the Marvel side Falisha, so it's no biggie for me to just go back! Of course there are certain DC comics I'll always be willing to read(WW, Birds of Prey, REBELS, amongst others), but I'm rapidly losing patience with the ol' DCU. And thanks for the luck concerning the move! I'm gonna need it! Just a few more days(Sunday), and then this MASSIVE headache will be behind me!

  4. I hear what you're saying. Lol, if DC doesn't start acting right I may travel on over to the Marvel side with you. Lol. Find some back issues of Black Widow or something.

And I can imagine having to move. Sounds like such a pain. But once you get settled it'll be peachy. :)

Just do it before noon and after 7, can't have you having a heat stroke lol.

  5. Go ahead dude I've stolen tons from you :P And yeah I know exactly what you mean, I don't know if he's busy or something but his writing is really suffering and it's getting to the point where I barely wanna read.

Oh and I picked up the first few issues of Dark Wolverine like you suggested, the last issue of Origins I read, I think 35 or something Daken had joined Osborns Avengers, Cyclops would gonna use the blade on him and Fury and Wolvie were on their way there, so when should I start Dark Wolverine?

  6. Where is the Bruce Wayne #1 review? I gotta know why it sucks so bad.

I'm so glad others are feeling burnt out on Johns as well. I just spent sooo much time looking at/processin Blackest Night stuff that I need a break.

Falisha- I'm happy that you like Black Widow. I was as impressed by the second issue as the first, which hasn't happened with a new series in a while. I'm going to look into that Black Widow: Deadly Origin trade, since it's fairly new.

  7. Don't you worry Falisha, for as many DC comics I own, I have even MORE Marvels, so I'll find something good to recommend to you! :-)

Ha, good point! Hopefully the temps will go back to normal by Sunday(it was almost 90 today!!).

Ah, so you found the Dark Wolverines JT! Awesome! They all take place during Daken's stay on the Dark Avengers, so it sounds like you're almost right at the proper point. My best piece of advice for ya is to check out the publication month/year for Dark Wolvie and try to match it up to its Origins counter-part.

  8. Wow, I can only imagine how many of those you have. Comic book king knows his material!! I'll definitely come knocking at your blog door for some recommendations lol.

And X, I don't know why mother nature is made at us, lol, it was 90 here today. I almost lost it. Lol. I'm a march baby, this 90 degree weather is too much! lol.

  9. The Bruce Wayne review is coming tomorrow Kello. I just finished the initial draft earlier today, and just need to pull a scan and proof it, so I'll have it up sometime tomorrow(prob tomorrow night).

It's crazy how all of us die-hard Geoff fans are starting to sour on him... If you would have told me 6 months ago that I'd be sick of Geoff in a couple of months, I'd have laughed right in your face!

I STILL have the first two issues of Black Widow sitting on my nightstand... I really have to try to get to them soon!

  10. You can always come looking for comic recommendations from me Falisha! You know I could talk comics for hours on end! :P

I'm a June baby and I HATE the hot weather!!! I'm a fall sort of person. I like that nice, crisp chill in the air come November or so. It's not unbearably cold yet, but thankfully, it isn't scorching either!

  11. Geoff Johns is good at building up comic book universes, but his actual writing is pretty unremarkable, even workmanlike. He doesn't really have a style that's all his own, so he has nothing to keep him afloat when his plots are mediocre.

Good luck on your move, X. I'm moving out on Saturday, so I feel your pain!

I like the fall too. My first job when I was 16 was working at an apple orchard, so that time of year brings back a lot of great orchard-related memories for me.

  12. I don't know Marc, Geoff has had a fair number of pretty great stories. The Sinestro Corps War was REALLY satisfying, although Infinite Crisis was awful. I'd almost say the opposite and say the Geoff is better at crafting good stories(the Gog one from the JSA series is another good example), while his universe crafting is lacking for me, but we all know my feelings towards his obsession with building up with guys dead guys from the past...

Wow, so you're out one day before me! I'm pretty well packed up, and I've already managed to move most of my smaller items into the new place, but it's just remembering all of the little things, changing adresses and stuff that's driving me crazy!

An apple orchard? That sounds like such a nice, peaceful job.

  13. It was one of those things where you don't appreciate it at the time, but looking back I have a lot of good memories from working there. Definitely not something I can say about other jobs I've had, haha...
