New Comic Day! October 17th edition.

Okay, I'll be honest, I forgot to get this post done earlier in the week, so I'm gonna skip most of the intro and just get into the meat of this post, the books I'll be picking up.  That way JT won't be TOO angry with me for my laziness...  Probably...  Anyway, here are the books I picked up today.  At the comic shop...  Today...  Walking Dead #103, Red Hood and the Outlaws #13, Nightwing #13, Hellblazer #296, American Vampire: Lord of Nightmares #5, Avengers Assemble #8, AvX: Consequences #2, Daredevil #19, Dark Avengers #182, Hawkeye #3, Marvel Point One #1, Mighty Thor #21, Venom #26, X-Factor #245.  That brings me to 14 books.  And there really aren't any I'm jumping up and down to read...  I guess my three books for the week will be Marvel Point One #1, Hawkeye #3 and Red Hood and the Outlaws #13(just to mess with myself).  If I get REALLY bored today(which probably won't happen), I'll put a review for Point One #1 up tonight, and add some other book as my final review.  But I wouldn't count on that happening.  As for my review days this week, they are Thursday, Saturday and Monday.  Whew, glad I finally got this post out of the way!  Now I'll make the hot tag to JT and get out of the way with a hearty X out!

I'm SO angry with X's laziness! Or not... whatever. These are the books that I, myself, me, JT, picked up at the comic shop... today. Walking Dead #103, Justice League #13, Nightwing #13, AVX Consequences #2, Hawkeye #3, Ultimate Spider-Man #16, and Venom #26. Of those seven comics, I guess I'll review Justice League #13, Venom #26 and I guess I'll do Nightwing #13 as my final review. My review days this week are Friday, Sunday and Tuesday, so come on those days for some JT reviewing-goodness. And just like that, that's the end of this NCD post, feel free to let us know what you guys picked up, and be sure to expect a review from X tomorrow (if not tonight) at 8 P.M. Til then, this is JT signing off!

  1. Mighty thor 21 was absolutely remarkable. One of my favorite comics this year - looking forward to what you make of it, x-man. Of course, I've been a fan of Journey into Mystery, Kid Loki and the whole sagas for a very long time. So I may be much more emotionally invested here :).

  2. I'm still catching up, but "Everything Burns" has so far been perfect. Along with Remender leaving Uncanny X-Force, Gillen leaving Journey into Mystery is the worst casualty of Marvel NOW!. I'm really bummed, I'm hoping the Young Avengers book Gillen is starting can fill the void.

Speaking of Gillen, I'm excited to see how AVX Consequences 2 turns out - the first one arrived to very mixed reviews. More negative than positive, actually. Still deciding on whether to get aboard that series. (hint hint hint - JT review this instead of Venom 26, which is going to be crappy - hint hint hint)

  3. Uncanny X-men was really good as well. It is sort of setting up why Cyclops will eventually escape. It is done in such a way that it really doesn't contradict AVX Consequences either.

I am a bit excited for Kid Loki. I would have really worried about him at the end of Mighty Thor if it wasn't for what is already planned in Marvel Now. But, I like the idea of Loki, the lonely kid-god surrounded by mistrusting adults, manipulating teenage superheroes into joining his team. They haven't stated why he is starting this team but I wouldn't be surprised if he is just looking for some friends.

  4. TRobb, I thought "AVX:C" was pretty good. It's giving us a much better insight into Cyclops' thinking than I feel like we've gotten. I mean, I disagree with him, but at least now I think I have a clearer idea of how he views the whole situation. I also thought "Uncanny" #20 was one of the best issues Gillen has delivered in a while and read it the same way as Jermox.

  5. I'm staking out a bold claim: "Hawkeye" #3 is the greatest single comic I have ever read period. BAM!

  6. TRobb, I was thinking about doing AVX Consequences but the only reason I decided to go with Venom is because it's apart of the Minimum Carnage storyline and I wanna make sure that's fully covered, so hopefully Venom is good.

  7. Thanks guys for your opinions. Definitely nudging me towards picking up Consequences now.

I've enjoyed Gillen's Uncanny X-Men run as well, he did a great job with Sinister and Unit, and the intra-team dynamics were well done. I just wish his run hadn't been so disrupted by crossovers - Fear Itself, Schism, and AvX really limited the stories he could tell. I look at what Jason Aaron has been able to do with Wolverine ATXM and can only imagine what Gillen could've done with Magneto, Storm, and double-agent Psylocke.

I've been super-impressed with Hawkeye too - I did not know Fraction could write so well, and Aja's art is too good! Gotten me into a character I wasn't too high on before (sorry X!).

Marvel's new, lower profile books have been very good - I'm liking Gambit, and I just read Captain Marvel 1 the other day. The art in Captain Marvel really knocked my socks off, and I've always been a fan of Carol Danvers. Anybody been keeping up with that series?

  8. TRobb, I'm actually following Cap Marvel and I've been enjoying it. I really enjoyed her banter with Cap and Spidey in the first issue and the series has gotten off to a good start, nothing amazing but a nice solid monthly read.

  9. Eh, not sure where the best place to put this would be, but wondering if you have seen the January solicits from DC yet. It seems as if issue 16 will be the last for Legion Lost, Frankenstein, Blue Beetle, and Grifter.
