New Comic Day! March 9th Edition.

Howdy all, it's Wednesday which means it's time for... You all probably know the drill by now, right? And since you guys all know the drill, I can drop the intro! With that out of the way, let us take a gander back at last week to see which books I was most and least looking forward to, and how they wound up preforming. Last week's Runt of the Litter was Brightest Day #21 and man did it EVER deserve THAT moniker!!! It ended up getting a score of -76 out of 10, the second lowest score I've ever handed out at the blog. So yeah, it was bad... Really bad. Last week's Pick of the Litter was Daken: Dark Wolverine #6, which I haven't read just yet... It IS the next comic to be read in my comic pile, so I'd imagine I should have a review up for it by Friday. There. That takes care of last week.

With last week out of the way, let us shift our attentions to this week. First up, I have 4 subscription titles due in the mail this week. Those books would be: Batman and Robin #21, Birds of Prey #10, Titans #33 and Wonder Woman #608... All DC books, and to be honest, I can't say I'm looking forward to ANY of them! Now let's see what I actually picked up from the comic shop earlier today... Batgirl #19, Batman Inc. #3, Booster Gold #42, Captain America: Hail Hydra #3, Justice League: Generation Lost #21, Outsiders #37, Superboy #5, Weird Worlds #3, Zatanna #10, Captain America: The Korvac Saga #4, Hawkeye: Blindspot #2(!!!!!!), Onslaught Unleashed #2, Venom #1 and X-23 #7. Wow, 8 DC books this week... Interesting... Anyway, that gives me a grand total of 14 new books this week(18 including the subscription books). That's a very healthy number. Anytime I can come home with over 12 new comics, I'm a happy camper! This week's Pick of the Litter should be pretty easy considering all the exclamation points I put next to it, but if you still can't figure it out, I'll tell you. It's Hawkeye: Blindspot #2! Hawkeye: Blindspot #1 was possibly the best single issue I've read in over 3 years(and I read A LOT of comics!), so to say I can't wait to read issue #2 is a HUUUUUGE understatement. As for this week's Runt of the Litter, I'll go with Outsiders #37. It's not like I'm dreading it or anything, I just could care less about it. I mean we all know it's getting canned, so I just can't say I'm overly interested in reading it. And I guess that'll have to do it for this week. All that's left to do now is to post the Random Scan of the Week and get back to playing Dragon Age 2. Until next time, X out.

The Random Scan of the Week!I miss you Vulcan!

  1. Can't wait to hear what you think about Hawkeye #2 and Venom #1! My hopes are high for both of those. If you and JT can convince me, I could be very easily persuaded to run out and pick up Venom. And how could anything with the word "Onslaught" in the title not be the "runt"??

P.S. Not sure if you saw it, but I posted a review earlier in the week. It currently sits lonely and un-commented upon! (Did you ever get a chance to read my Superman: Earth One review as well?)

Okay, done with my shameless plugging! :D On another side note, my spring break begins tomorrow and I'd be up for a chat session with everyone whenever it's convenient for you guys!

  2. I'm sure JT will have his thoughts on Venom #1 posted well before mine, I have a TON of HW, as well as a new video game monopolizing my free time. I'll be lucky if I can get two reviews a night up and posted! As for the Onslaught thing, I didn't HATE the first issue of that mini, so I'm willing to give it a shot. If I recall, the story was okay, while the art was lacking. I guess I could have picked that, but yeah... Maybe next month! :P

I did, but I really couldn't think of anything to say! You obviously LOVED it(that has to be one of your FEW perfect scores), but I'm not quite sure if it was something I'd be willing to check out... I just recently started dipping my toes into the non-DC/Marvel waters, I'm not sure if a black and white British series from the early 80's would be my cup of tea... Get it? British? Cup of tea? :D

You lucky dog you! I WISH my Spring break was starting tomorrow!!! I'm still about three weeks away from mine! :( Does this mean you'll become a trade review posting machine?

  3. Hopefully Onslaught turns out better than its name suggests! And as for Venom, I've been thinking about it and I'll probably run out and get it no matter what. I'm just too intrigued at this point not to. And with break looming, I may even have it read by the time you post your review!

Well, if you ever do decide to go the black-and-white 1980s British comics route, you certainly can't go wrong with that one! After all, it's got Alan Davis, who I know is one of your favorites as well as mine! But yeah, it's taken me this long to get into that stuff myself, and I've been into non-superhero comics a lot longer than you have, so I can certainly understand the trepidation. But if you ever need other non-superhero recommendations, you know who to ask! :D (Oh and yes, I believe that's only my third perfect score, out of nearly fifty reviews!)

I don't believe I'll turn into a posting machine, but I do hope to be a writing machine! I'd like to save up enough reviews so that I can maintain a weekly posting schedule for the next couple months, even if things get really busy. When I started the blog I was writing one a week but I had quite a review in reserve...unfortunately, I had burned through the reserve by the end of October. So if I can make it to the summer with no more delays, I'll be a very happy blogger!

  4. And by "quite a review," I meant "quite a few"! Jeez, I really need to stop posting when I'm tired, haha...
