New Comic Day! May 11th Edition.

Hey X-Maniacs, X here with the ONLY weekly post he knows how to do, New Comic Day! Last week of school for me, so this should be my last abbreviated NCD post for a while, unless I'm feeling extra lazy that is... Last week's Pick of the Litter was Fear Itself #2, and unlike the first issue, this issue didn't disappoint in the least! Fear Itself #2 received the RARE perfect score, something I wouldn't have expected after reading the first issue last month. Matt Fraction seems to be getting everything lined up, and going forward I'm expecting GREAT things. Last week's Runt of the Litter was Weird Worlds #5, which I have to admit that I didn't read yet... So who knows, maybe it'll surprise me and be great... Or not.

With that taken care of, on to the books I picked up from the comic shop a few hours ago... Batgirl #21, Batman Incorporated #6, REBELS #28, Red Robin #23, Superman #711, Amazing Spider-Man #660, Daken: Dark Wolverine #9, Daredevil Reborn #4, FF #3, Journey Into Mystery #623, New Mutants #25, X-Men #11 and Fear Itself: Youth in Revolt #1. There are two very notable things here... This week marks the final issue of my favorite DC comic book(BY FAR), REBELS. Because of that, I WILL NOT be buying ANY of DC's Flashpoint in protest. I can proudly say that JT(of the AWESOME Jason Todd's Comic Spot) has joined me in not collecting Flashpoint, for which I salute him. Seriously, don't buy Flashpoint comics. That's the only way DC is going to realize that we, the fans, are sick and tired of their current direction. Has one of your favorite DC comics been canceled? A favorite character been relegated to the background/limbo? Feeling burnt by the lackluster Brightest Day story, and it's horrible ending? Then speak with your wallet and stop supporting Chairman Geoff Johns singular vision of what HE thinks the DCU should be! That's what I'll be doing. There's my DC rant for the day. Back to the good stuff, the comics. This week's Pick of the Litter is obviously going to be REBELS... I am going to be SO sorry to see this series go... As for the Runt, I'm going to surprisingly choose FF #3... The first two issues just haven't lived up to all the hype for me. To be honest, reading the first two issues of FF made me long for the older Fantastic Four comics... And that's it for me. After Friday I'll have freed myself from the shackles of the World of Academia, meaning I should be able to pump out reviews at a much faster clip. Until then though, it'll still be drips and drabs. And that'll do it. Enjoy this week's Random Scan of the Week, and I bid you all a fond farewell with a hearty, X out!

The Random Scan of the Week!I've wanted to do that for years...

  1. Haha I miss Superboy Prime. Still want a World's Worst (opposed to Finest) team up with Jason and Prime. Anyway, thanks for the plug dude, I feel the same way about Flashpoint, especially after Brightest Day. Oh, and I WAS right about my Batman assumption according to some spoilers I read. And no Birds of Prey or is that a subscription?

  2. It's my last week of school too! That means that starting next week I'll be able to...*gasp*...write more reviews and comment on everyone's blogs more often! (Not to mention read more comics!) YAY!!

Wow, I apologize for the number of exclamation points in the preceding paragraph...I'm sure you understand my excitement though. Is this your last semester EVER, X, or do you have more to go after this one?

Anyhow, I'll be looking forward to your Amazing Spider-Man review, and to hopefully getting caught up on that title again in the near future. What exactly is Fear Itself: Youth in Revolt? Based on the title, I'm hoping the Runaways or the Young Avengers might be involved!

  3. Flash #12 (out today) is billed as the "final issue." If this is true (which it's not),it means that I'll only collect 1 title from DC. I can't believe it, but I've been buying a crazy amount of Marvel books lately! It's funny how DC cut down the price of all their books and now they're less interesting than ever.

  4. Well, well, well, JT has beat me too it once again. I'm seriously going to have to do something about that. Lol.

And well as always looking forward to the number of reviews you get out over the next week. Also congrats on finishing up school, we shall celebrate! ^_^

Looking forward to your reviews on: Batgirl #21, Daken: Dark Wolverine #9.

    Happy Readings!

  5. Any time you're in full agreement with me you KNOW I'll plug you, JT! :P Birds is actually a subscription still... I think... I honestly don't remember though... If I don't get this issue in like 2 weeks, I'll just have to pick it up at the shop. If there's still a few copies there... :/

I have no idea what Youth in Revolt is about actually... All I know is that it's a part of Fear Itself, and as per my new anti-DC stance, I'm picking up EVERY Fear Itself mini-series/x-over I can find to make up for the DC books I've been dropping.

Well, before I read anything else, REBELS will come first... God am I sad about that series ending... *sigh* Once I'm done with that though, you KNOW I'll be reading Batgirl and Daken(as well as Red Robin) next, Lisha. Those are some of my favorite books! A lot of my favs actually came out this week! It's like the Comic Gods knew I was getting out of school this week! :D

  6. Dude... I saw a spoiler page from Batman Inc 6... and if it's what I think it is... I may be changing my stance on Grant Morrison. And you KNOW it's something huge if I said that...

  9. Damned Blogger!!!!! Where's my REBELS review?!? Bastards!!!

I actually read FF #3 last night, Dave, and have to admit that it was much better than I expected. I should have a review for it up some time this weekend, probably on Sat... Provided Blogger doesn't eat it!!!

  10. i browsed through it at a comic shop but i didn't pick it up. i know your not a Dire Wraith fan but you have to admit reading someone's mind with that tongue spike action was pretty cool. i hope you cover that a bit in your review. it was pretty cheesy but have you ever seen Starship Troopers? you remember toward the end when that one guy get's his brain sucked out of his head?
blogger jacked up my blogs too i hope that doesn't happen again.

  11. The Dire Wraith way of reading Reed's mind sure was unique, I'll give you that! I have to say this much about the Wraiths, they look intimidating as hell! I mean besides the Brood, they're probably the Marvel alien race I'd LEAST want to bump into in a dark alley!

Hey, I might as well post that scan for the review! What's better then seeing an alien stick it's tongue into the skull of an alternate counterpart of Reed Richards? I'll answer that one myself... Nothing! :D

  12. thank you! posting that brain suck clip art would be awesome. and your right about the Brood too. their a tough act to follow in terms of sheer alien terror.
