New Comic Day! February 16th edition!

Hey X-Maniacs, it's time for a new installment of the Internet's favorite weekly blog feature, yes, it's time for another New Comic Day post! I came away with QUITE a haul from the comic shop today, but before we get to that, let's take a look back at how my predictions from last week held up. Last week's Pick of the Litter impressed, with Batgirl #18 grabbing an excellent score of 9 out of 10. You can't do much better than that. Last week's Runt of the Litter, Captain America: The Korvac Saga #3 actually didn't deserve the insulting Runt title as it pulled down a VERY good 8 1/2 out of 10. So last week actually turned out to be much better then I anticipated. But what about this week?!?

First off, let me list the subscription books I'll have coming in the mail before I get into what I just picked up earlier today. Sometime between this week and next I expect to get my hands on the following: Batman #707(WHY?!), Green Lantern Corps #57, Green Lantern #62(WHY?!), Justice League of America #54(which is actually the last issue for my subscription), Wonder Woman #607, and Wolverine #6. Not exactly anything to really look forward to there with the exception of Wolverine #6. Okay, now to the main event. Here are the books I have in my hands right now, and should be reading as soon as tonight... Uncanny X-Force #5, Thunderbolts #153, Superman/Batman #81, Supergirl #61, SHIELD #6, Outsiders #36, Generation Hope #4, Captain America: Man Out of Time #4, Brightest Day #20, Detective Comics Classics, Booster Gold #41, Avengers Academy #9, Amazing Spider-Man #654.1, Silver Surfer #1, Hawkeye: Blindspot #1 and Wolverine and Jubilee #2. Whew! That gives me a grand total of 16 new comics. Added to the 6 subscription books means I'll be looking forward to a rather nice 22 new books this week. Not bad... Not bad at all! Unless you've been living in a cave, this week's Runt of the Litter is pretty obvious, Brightest Day #20, a series I would now rank with Countdown to Final Crisis as the WORST thing to ever come out of DC. The Pick of the Litter is a bit tougher to choose, as there are quite a few books I'm looking forward to... Cap: Man Out of Time, Hawkeye, Uncanny X-Force, all of those books would definitely be Pick of the Litter worthy. But instead I'll go with Amazing Spider-Man #654.1. Since I've started collecting the Spidey books again, I don't think I've scored any issue below an 8, and for as long as the awesome Dan Slott is writing this series I don't expect that to change. So after a few lackluster weeks, I'm back to over 20 comics again. Life is good. Before I go, here's the Random Scan of the Week... Oh, and speaking of scans, I'll have a special announcement here on the blog towards the end of the week. Until then, X out.

The Random Scan of the Week! Those wacky pimps...

  1. Lmao whose kid is that that's about to get pimp slapped? And an announcement?! Whatever could it be?! Oh, and no Morning Glories trade?

  2. That's a scene from the always awesome Runaways series.

"And an announcement?! Whatever could it be?!" :/

I asked the guy and he said he didn't get it in(I guess he didn't order it or something), so I put in my request. We'll see how long it takes before I see it.

  3. I don't know if JT actually knows what the announcement is and is just playing coy, but I certainly don't know, and I'm looking for ward to finding out what it is...well, if it's a good announcement anyway (which I hope it is)!

Since I get ASM by mail, I'm actually not sure if they're planning to send me the "Point One" issue, or if I'll have to go buy that myself. I'm guessing the latter.

Anyway, sounds like a pretty solid week! Can't wait to hear about Cap: Man Out of Time, Uncanny X-Force, and ASM. Are the Silver Surfer and Hawkeye issues one-shots? Those could be interesting as well.

  4. Knowing Marvel, Marc, I'm pretty sure they'll have you put out the extra $ for that .1 issue. I get the Wolverine series via the subscription service and I brought Wolvie 5.1 at the cb shop just in case they didn't send it out. If I do happen to get a copy of Wolvie #5.1 in the mail I'll let you know.

Both the Surfer and Hawkeye comics are the beginning of new mini-series(I think they're both 5-parters, but I could be wrong). The Surfer one was more of a spur of the moment pick-up, while I KNEW I wanted that Hawkeye book. Lots of good stuff this week though. I can't wait to start reading everything in sight! :D

  6. Hey X,

Okay, so JT's comment is screaming with his classic sarcasism, so it's safe to say that he knows your announcement. I hope that it's a good announcement!

Why are you upset with Batman 707 and GL 62? Is it just me, or did those series (along with Supergirl) get renumbered? Are you going to renew your JLA subscription? Besides your BD Rant, I'm looking forward to X-Force, Outsiders, GH4, and Academy. L8r days!

  7. Don't worry, Movieartman, I can say with full certainty that I'll still be posting scans with every review I do. As a matter of fact... well I'd better not say anything else, since that would ruin the surprise! :P

Ugh... I think I gave Batman #706 a ZERO, and I couldn't even finish reading the entire thing, Cole... So needless to say, I am NOT looking forward to reading the next issue! As for GL, I've grown a disdain of ANYTHING written by Chairman Johns now. Brightest Day, Green Lantern, Flash, if he writes it, I can be pretty sure I'll hate it. Luckily I only have one more issue left on my GL subscription, so I can happily drop that title like I dropped Flash. As for JLA... I honestly don't know what I'm gonna do about that... I really haven't enjoyed James Robinson's JLA run, but I don't know if I can rationalize dropping DC's #1 team book... This issue will probably go a LONG way in helping me decide whether or not I'll add it to my pull list.

  8. Lol I love how everyone is so aware of my sarcasm, it makes me wonder even more what this secret is! Tell us X! Tell us before our heads explode of curiosity!!!

  9. My head already did explode with curiosity...it's too late!!

  11. ok cools
oh i see u hate brightest day
    did u like blackest night?

    ReplyDelete
  12. Dammit, I lost Marc... Oh well. :P

HA! Saying I hate Brightest Day is actually understating the way I feel about that series! Hate is to light a word! I actually liked the beginning of Blackest Night(the first 4 issues or so), before it simply became another way for Chairman Johns to shove HIS favorite characters down everybody's throats.

  13. You know, I'm actually pretty sure I know what the announcement is going to be... X, you're the new writer for Daredevil, aren't you??

    ReplyDelete
  14. You got me, Marc... Blast it, how'd you figure it out?! :P

  15. I intercepted a secret memo that was circulating throughout the uppermost ranks of the Marvel hierarchy. They really should consider having their computer security upgraded!

    ReplyDelete
  16. Now that you know the secret something is going to have to be done about it... Hey Marc, could you do me a favor and stand in front of your window in EXACTLY 30 minutes? The people at Marvel have something to shut you up... I mean REWARD you with! :P

    ReplyDelete
  17. Lmao @ Cole... I got that joke, haha.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Oh man... I'm hoping I just took that the wrong way...

    ReplyDelete
  19. Lmao I'm sure you're not, either way I laughed very hard.

    ReplyDelete
  20. HAHAHAHAHAHA! Thanks JT! I actually started laughing out loud after reading your comment. lol. And X, for the record (so you don't ban me), I'm not the person who said it, I just laughed and commented at it.

  21. I got it, I just ignored it because I'm no longer 8 years old. :)

But yeah, if that comment is any indication, Cole has just proven that he's fit to take part in our AIM chats...lol.

    ReplyDelete
  22. You have AIM chats and I haven't been invited?! I'm hurt!

    ReplyDelete
  23. Don't sweat it, Cole. We actually haven't had one of those chats in like three months! They became too disturbing what with all of the talk of children's ice skates and tissues...

    ReplyDelete
  24. I'm not 8, but they apparently have great sense of humor :P And yeah but we haven't done an AIM chat since like..... October, Cole.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Thanks for the support JT! I almost felt bad about that for a second! And I demand that these AIM chats are commenced once again! IM me at DemonHunterCole.
