Batgirl #15

Overall: This issue gets started in earnest with Steph(as Batgirl)noticing some weirdos in robes chasing a student around her college campus. Steph steps in and attacks the robed figures, handling them with relative ease... At least until some goof named the Grey Ghost shows up on the scene to “help”. All he really does is create confusion, which allows the robed figures to regroup. Oracle manages to identify the Grey Ghost by matching his voice to a voice print she had on file and learns that the Ghost was actually some nobody criminal from a few issues back who was beaten within a few pages by Batgirl. Oracle sends this info to Batgirl, who tells the Ghost that she knew who he was, which in turn leads to the Ghost vanishing in a flash of lights. The lights disorient Steph, and allow the robed figures the chance to escape. With Steph no longer on their trail, the robed figures track down the student from earlier, steal his flashdrive and toss him off a rooftop. The next day, the cops investigate the scene, and find a bloody batarang near the dead students body. One assumption leads to another, and by the time this issue ends, Steph(as Batgirl)finds herself surrounded by Gotham's Finest.

You know, I REALLY needed to read this comic after reading that abysmal Brightest Day #13. This comic and that one were like complete opposites to each other. Where as BD #13 sucked the big one, this comic was great! It was nice to have Oracle back in the fold again after a few issues absence, Steph's explanation of the Bat-Family to Proxy was awesomely done and the story was fast moving and fun. What's there for me to complain about here?

Score: 8 1/2 out of 10.Best Batman history ever!

  1. The Jason Todd-BOOM-I'm a Criminal will forever be one of the greatest things I've ever seen.

  2. That whole cartoon beginning to this comic was epic! You KNOW I scanned all of the pages so I can use them periodically. They were that awesome.

  3. Lol I figured. I'm waiting to come here and see a chibi Bruce yelling "VENGEANCE!!!!" Haha, also Babs just being Mopey as Oracle was funny. Man this series is so fun. Why can't Teen Titans be fun like this? Batgirl is one of the few comics that can be a good serious read and use that good ol' Young Justice humor so well.

  4. That is such a good point... This series is written the way Teen Titans SHOULD be written... Kind of fun and light-hearted. The stories get told, there's drama and stuff, but there's also that much needed injection of fun that so many DC comics just don't have anymore.

  5. Exactly, certain stories should be written like that, Booster Gold and Teen Titans being the main ones that spring to mind. I'd really love if Bryan got to write Teen Titans.

  6. Ain't that the truth. You know, now that you brought it up, I gotta wonder why DC hasn't given Bryan more work...

  7. Right? Paul Cornell is doing great on Action Comics and they already have him doing a small arc on Batman and Robin, yet Bryan does a fantastic Batgirl run for over a year and hasn't written anything else.

  8. I don't know if I'd say Paul Cornell's run on Action has been great, but it's been pretty good. I just wish he'd move away from that Lex/Black rings storyline.

Why Bryan isn't getting a shot at one of the more main Bat-books I have NO idea!

  9. I'd say it's been great just because I'm still shocked he's managed to make Lex a fun, likable character without making him at least a semi-good guy, that can't be easy.

Hell, I say Bryan should be writing something with Batman too, screw Tony Daniel. I know I won't be reading that series while he's writing it.

  10. Yeah, character-wise he's done some frigging awesome work with Lex, but that story... I am just SO over the Blackest Night stuff, you know? I'd prefer seeing Lex acting crazy in Metropolis with his Lois-Bot instead of him wandering the Earth searching for Black Lantern energy or something like that.

JT, once again, you are TOTALLY right! Why Tony Daniel and not Bryan is writing a Bat-book is beyond me!

  11. Yeah, I'm wondering how that story will end because I highly doubt Lex gets another ring. You think he'd just go after the White Lantern in the middle of the street.

"JT, once again, you are TOTALLY right!" Are you REALLY that surprised? I mean come on, lol. But yeah, I still blame Tony for making Jason evil. I wish Judd had written BFTC like he was supposed to.

  12. "You think he'd just go after the White Lantern in the middle of the street." That made me literally burst out laughing because it's so obvious! So here's Lex, searching the Earth for some sort of power ring, and right smack-dab in the middle of the country is a giant white lantern! I mean damn Lex, aren't you supposed to be a genius?! :P I can possibly see Lex gaining some sort of power ring, simply because it'll make his next confrontation with Supes that much more epic.

Whenever you're right I'm surprised! :D Seriously though, you're on the money again. I'd have LOVED to have seen how Judd would have tackled BftC. You KNOW he'd have treated Jason WAY better...

  13. Lmao right? I mean, it's RIGHT there, and it's more powerful than the black lantern rings, yet he's running around like an idiot looking for black lantern residue. That really would, hell he'd be a real threat, with his mind and a ring... oh hell.

Hell, Jason would've become Nightwing probably if it were up to Judd, lol. I can't wait to hear his announcement.

  14. Yeah JT, with Action #900 rapidly approaching, what better way to celebrate that milestone then to have a power ring weilding Lex attack Superman/Metropolis?

Since Chris Kent isn't using the Nightwing name anymore I wish SOMEBODY would pick it up! Hell, I wouldn't mind seeing Jason run around as Nightwing again, as long as he doesn't transform into a giant blob-like creature again...

  15. That's a really good point. I feel like they may be leading up to that but I'm kinda tired of seeing Lex just run into random villains... unless its like Joker.

Lol.. How would you feel if Cass Cain took the Nightwing name?

    ReplyDelete
  16. That is SO true! Lex has bumped into Deathstroke, Grodd and Death... Why hasn't he run into Joker yet?! That NEEDS to happen. And soon!

I wouldn't mind. I'd prefer Jason, but I'd be fine with Cassandra taking on that name. Hell, I just sort of wish SOMEBODY would use the name, you know? I mean it's out there, and it's available, why not use it?
