X-Factor #234:
Summary: We discover early on that the woman hanging out with the Isolationist is named Jezebel and that she wants to bring about the Apocalypse(the event, not the person) with Isolationist's help. Meanwhile, Havok and Polaris hang out in Central Park. The rest of the team returns to base to find Layla and Madrox standing there. Monet is furious because she feels that Layla brought Madrox back from the dead as some sort of soulless ghoul(as she feels Guido is), and flies away with Layla to exact some sort of righteous revenge. Layla manages to convince Monet that she didn't bring Madrox back from the dead and the two women kind of/sort of come to an understanding... Well, maybe a truce is a better word for their situation... This one ends with Havok and Madrox meeting up(and Havok exerting his leadership over X-Factor) and Jezebel and Isolationist beginning their nefarious scheme.
Thoughts: Not bad. This was mainly an issue of character development, as we got some page time for Monet and Layla, Havok and Polaris and even Jezebel and Isolationist. So while it wasn't the most exciting thing in the world to read, it was a good, solid read nonetheless.
Score: 7 out of 10.
The hair joke made me laugh... So sue me.
I feel like we've all forgetten something big, like I dunno 3 monstrous villains from other dimensions but that might just be me.

ReplyDeleteAnyways, i felt kind of bad for Layla in this one. I mean, it seems like there's a lot of background stuff we never get to see with her and she's tired of everyone thinking this is one big game for her. She tries to convey this to Monet, but she gets brushed off.
The rest of the comic i felt was a lot like the last, where it set things up but nothing really happened. I'm looking forward to the next issue though. Apparently Shatterstar goes berserk and that's always a lot of fun to watch.

ReplyDeleteAgreed on Layla, WOD. Especially after she told M that they wound up as best friends and M totally blew her off. Layla often comes across as almost emotionless, the chess master moving the pieces around the board, so it was great to see she DOES care about people these past few issues. And yeah, this was another set-up issue, no doubt. You have to think next issue finally gives us our next big X-Factor story. The team's been pretty much spinning their wheels since Jamie died.
I'm glad everyone had the same response to this issue as I did, because I, too, thought the Layla stuff was the most interesting. I never really thought about the fact that Layla lives in the past, present, and future, and it's got to suck to want to tell Monet that, I don't know, she finally slept with Jamie, but then to remember that she's not friends with Monet yet.

Yeah, the thing with Monet is the worst, you'd have to think. Layla can remember/see/knows she's best friends with Monet, but that hasn't come to pass yet. It must be so frustrating for her to try to keep it all straight.
ReplyDeleteAgreed. It's kind of been the Jamie(with some Layla thrown in) show the past few issues, so I'm def looking forward to the focus shifting to(hopefully) Shatterstar.
