Green Lantern: The New Guardians #4

Ah, here's this week's Runt of the Litter, the comic at the bottom of my new comic pile, AND, much like Ultimates, a series that I'll probably be dropping after this issue. Sorry, Kyle Rayner or no, Larfleeze as a major player in this series means I'll be dropping it. Here's hoping Larfleeze is just the villain of the month here, but I have a sinking suspicion that isn't the case...

Green Lantern: New Guardians #4:

What Happened: Larfleeze and the rest of the New Guardians continue to fight against the Guardians of Oa(for some reason). Ganthet tries to reason with Kyle, telling him that if he stayed the Guardians would try to figure out why the rings from the others Corps went to him, but Kyle decides to throw his lot in with Larfleeze since he didn't like what the Guardians did to Ganthet. With that, the New Guardians head to Larfleeze's homeworld and learn from Larfleeze's personal Guardian, Sayd, that a white hole had opened up in space and that a ship the size of a galaxy emerged, stealing Lantern rings from the various Corps's. Needless to say, it was in the best interest of the New Guardians to explore this strange ship.

The Good: This comic was a fast read. The cliffhanger was good.

The Bad: I have zero interest reading a series that has Larfleeze as a major character. None of the New Guardians, save for Kyle, are characters I want to read about. Larfleeze was in this issue.

The Verdict: AdiĆ³s, New Guardians! You will be yet another DC series I toss on the scrapheap! I'm sorry, but I'm not going to read a series that stars Larfleeze. Not even for Kyle.

Score: 5 out of 10.Sorry, Kyle, but not even YOU could save this title for me.

  1. Welp, time to pick up Catwoman. Now you have NO excuses... go pick up Catwoman tomorrow X. (This is where you respond with well when I get some more money JT...blah blah blah) I don't wanna hear that dude, you dropped this, ya dropped a shit ton of other books, and you're waiting on I-Vampire, go pick up issues 3 and 4 of Catwoman and thank me later.

  2. Eh. I actually left it up to my sister if I should keep picking this series up. I'm dropping Fables and Ultimates tomorrow(and adding X-Men Legacy), but I'm not 100% sure I'm dropping this series yet. If she tells me to drop it, it's dropped. But if SHE wants to keep reading it, I'll keep picking it up. BUT, I definitely won't be reading it anymore. As for Catwoman? Meh. After the first two issues I'm just not interested enough in the series. I was never a HUGE Selina Kyle fan, and those first two issues didn't help. I could seriously see myself picking up something like Astonishing X-Men before trying Catwoman out again... Of course I'll let you try to sell me on it... :D

  3. Hey man I have been outta the loop! I have two weeks worth of pulls from the shop today and i still haven't finished three weeks ago! Holidays for ya... Anywhoo i noticed that you have wisely been dropping series... So i figured i'd shell out some possible titles that might interest you. I could e way off depending on what you are a fan of though.

-The punisher reboot by greg rucka has been pretty solid so far. A few meh issues but they were essential to building the story that is now about 7 issues in. The art is great. Castle is treated almost like a myth. Lurking in the shadows and not even speaking until the 3rd issue lol

-Teenage mutant ninja turtles reboot by dan duncan and kevin eastman. You pretty much have to be a fan of them in order to read a comic about them but i am a huge one and the seires has been a great read so far. Updated origin, great gritty art and COLOR for a change! about 5 issues in..

-Captain atom- this series has been lackluster at best but i have a feeling that something big is going to happen so im sticking with it. Atom is being portrayed as a dr. manhattan type character with his powers and inability to control them/disconnecting from reality. I won't recommend this one unless you are a big fan though lol

-X-club is only one issue in with the second coming out today the first issue was okay just for a short little mini so i'll let ya know on the rest of that one.

-A series that you missed and i feel you may have enjoyed is the Red skull: Incarnate. Being called the definitive origin of Johann Schmidt. Great 5 issue mini by greg pak (done the exact way that magneto testament was done).

-There are others i'm sure, but i can't think of them right now. Anyway I will be reading a TON of books soon so expect me to be commenting all over your reviews! haha later man.

  4. Good to hear from you, Cap! I am actually interested in picking up a few new titles to replace the ones I've dropped, and Punisher sounds kind of interesting. That may be something I look into... TMNT and Capt. Atom? I don't think they'd be my cup of tea. X-Club I'm not too sure about either. Now the Red Skull mini was something I considered but ultimately didn't get because I usually hate Pak's work... That may be worth a look if my shop still has it... Maybe I'll do a post asking for recommendations...

  5. At this point I'm sure which books I would recommend you (at lest from DC) so I'm just going to second Cap recommendation in Punisher, men how I missed Rucka's Writing it has the feeling of Gotham Central series and is not only about Frank Castle, it has a great support team, arriving the story from different points of views and all the characters have something interesting that make you care about them... I started with issue five and now I'm behind all the past issues.

  6. Huh, I'll def be adding Punisher this Wednesday now. Those two recommendations, along with the fact that Punisher is a $3 book has won me over! :D

  8. Yup... I still have 2 issues of I, Vampire in my pull box at the comic shop, Vancelot... From what the guy at the shop told me, either this week or next week he'll FINALLY get issue #2 in stock, meaning I can read 2,3,4, and who knows, maybe 5 as well! Here's hoping!
