Howdy X-Maniacs, it's Wednesday, which means(as if you haven't guessed from the title of this post)it's time for another installment of New Comic Day!!! And this week I've picked up a few comics I'm REALLY looking forward to reading. But before we get to that, I wanted to float something past you guys(and gals). This past Sunday(?), I did a Best of the Rest post, which is where I post a bunch of shorter reviews all in a single post. It seemed to go over relatively well, but I've got to admit, I'm not very fond of the Best of the Rest name... I just don't like it. I was thinking that X-Philes(or X-Files)might be a better name... But I'm still undecided. So, let me know what you guys think. Yay or nay for the BotR name?
Okay, enough of that. Let's get into the main event here. Last week I promised that I'd review 12 comics by today. How many reviews did I finish off? I managed 14 reviews, plus six BotR reviews, giving me a grand total of 20 reviews this past week! So I think I deserve a, “nicely done, X!” for managing to bust out that many reviews. As for this week's comics, I picked up: I am an Avenger #3, Justice League: Generation Lost #13, Shadowland: Daughters of the Dragon #3, Thanos Imperative #6, Avengers: The Children's Crusade #3(!!), Avengers Prime #4, Batgirl #15, Booster Gold #38, Batman: Return of Bruce Wayne #6, Captain America: Forever Allies #4 & Green Lantern: Emerald Warriors #4. So that's a grand total of 11 comics, meaning that by next week at this time I fully intend on having 11 new reviews up. Does that mean I WILL have 11 new reviews up? Of course not, but I can't see any reason I won't...
It should go without saying that Avengers: The Children's Crusade #3 is by FAR the pick of this week's books. Hands down. If you're a fan of the original Young Avengers series and aren't reading this mini, for shame! Hell, even if you didn't follow the original Young Avengers series you should be reading this mini! I know it's early, but this is my favorite mini-series of the year thus far, and I've only read TWO issues! I can't heap enough praise on this mini-series. Seriously, I can't! As for the runt of this week's comics? I'd have to go with Return of Bruce Wayne #6. The best thing I can say about this mini-series is this: at least it's FINALLY over! Once I finish reading Return #6, I can happily seal the 6 issues of this mini-series away into the deepest, darkest recesses of my closet, where they shall never see the light of day again. So there we go, another New Comic Day in the books. As always, drop me any comments on any of the books I picked up(or didn't pick up)this week, and I'll make sure to respond to 'em. Until next time, X out.
Nice haul X, But my opinion would probably be that Batgirl is MY read of the week just from looking. :P Oh, and I really like the name X-Files, that just works.
ReplyDeleteNice job X!
ReplyDeleteThere, are you done twisting my arm now? Just joking! Thanks for reviewing all that you review and sharing with us who have much less time to read. And this is your comic blog, so you can call your reviews whatever you want to. I don't prefer the X-Files/Philes name, but its your call.
Sorry JT, but if you check out my MAMMOTH review of Avengers: Children's Crusade #3, you'll definitely understand why I felt the way I did. Batgirl would have been my second pick though. And yeah, I'm kind of leaning towards X-Files myself. I'm X, and they're my Files. Makes sense to me! :D
ReplyDelete"Nice job X!" Why thank you, Cole. I agree wholeheartedly with that remark! :P
I think you should call them "X's Extras"
ReplyDeleteX & Co.,
ReplyDeleteYour Young Avengers review was awesome! I am definately going to get this mini. The fact that you read, reviewed, and posted 6 pix scans the same day you got it shows how much you liked it!
I second Kello's name of X's Xtras!
Lol, I swear I look forward to your "New Comic Day" posts waiting to see if the Comic shop guys thanks you for paying his rent! Lol. :-p
ReplyDeleteOnce again, another busy week of comics for you I see. :) I'll be looking forward to reading reviews:
Justice League: Generation Lost #13, Batgirl #15,Batman: Return of Bruce Wayne #6 (only because I want to see how bad you talk about it. Lol)
Enjoy your reading sir. :) Don't work too hard!!
Annnd to answer the question about the naming of "best of the rest" I like X-Files. It's like blogs being filed the way blogger organizes things. :) Soooo X-Files is awesome.
ReplyDelete*Whispers* apparently I skimmed over the question when reading because I was trying ot multitask in class, and the blog police (JT) brought it to my attention. Lol.
I still kind of like "Best of the Rest." But I've never exactly been accused of being overly fond of change...
ReplyDeleteIf change the title must, though, I vote for X-Files! :D
X's Extras isn't that bad a name either...I'm still leaning towards X-Files, but I might see if I can find some usage of X's Extras(or X's Xtras)as well. Hey, you can never have too many filler features on a blog!
ReplyDeleteThanks a ton for the kind words concerning the Children's Crusade review, Cole. I guess you can tell just how much I enjoyed reading that comic from that review! After I posted it I was like, "Wow did I type a lot here!" It's comics/series like that that make me remember just what I love about comics.
Lisha, you had me laughing... You know me SO well! I haven't even read it yet, but I already know that review for Return of BW #6 is gonna be just horrible! I am DREADING that comic!
