Quick Review: Zatanna manages to take care of the Fire Demons that had been pestering her last issue and promises her cousin Zatara that she would go to one of his magic shows after he explained to her how much it would mean to him. Unfortunately things don't go as planned as Zatanna is attacked by Benjamin Raymond, who had acquired a love potion from Mammon, a powerful Hell-based demon. In order to keep his soul from Mammon, Benjamin has to cause Zatanna to marry him, and thanks to his love potion(and zombie slaves)by the end of this issue that scenario seems ready to come to fruition.
Quick Thoughts: First off, I'm a huge fan of Zatara, so it was nice to see him get some page time and a bit of character development. Here's hoping he remains a regular in this series. But enough about Zatara, let's get to Zatanna. I'm actually enjoying this story, Mammon was humorous while still being reprehensible, Benjamin played a very good villain, and Zatanna was Zatanna. No complaints here.
Score: 8 1/2 out of 10.

Finally, I've managed to get this issue read. It was speaking to me while I had a couple hours before class today, lol.
ReplyDeleteAnd I know NOTHING about Zatara but just from his appearance in the last issue and this current one he is growing on me. Lol, he's just so darn cute, that little cousin who wants to be just like his big cousin Zatanna. :)
I REALLY like this story. I feared this next story line would be lame but, I was mistaken. I totally agree with the 8 1/2 you gave it X.
And before I go, Mammon is sooo gross yet funny. Lol. I'm glad Dini is giving her some interesting yet challenging villains.
It's funny, 'cause Zatara is kind of a jerk when he's not around Z, but you can tell he really respects her, which makes me want to see more of them working together.
ReplyDeleteAnd I couldn't agree more about Mammon, Lisha! I just hope he sticks around and doesn't get taken out as easily as Brother Night, who I STILL say had great potential as a reoccuring threat.
Oh, so there's a new Zatara, huh? As opposed to the old one I mean, who was Zatanna's father. Jeez, couldn't they have come up with a new name or something? It's like they're trying to confuse me!
ReplyDeleteHA! Come on Marc, you know how it is in the DCU! There are thousands of Green Lanterns, several Flashes, two Green Arrows, a handful of Starmans, along with two separate Aquamans, two Dr. Lights, and don't get me started on the JSA! The DCU seems to have a very bad habit of simply recycling the names of old heroes and villains(sometimes while the current character is still around!).
