Deadpool #23: Writer: Daniel Way. Pencils: Carlo Barberi.
Last Issue: 6 1/2 out of 10.
Review: We begin this comic with a casino in Las Vegas throwing a party to celebrate the return of the original Avengers, and the start of Marvel's Heroic Age. The casino owner tells a reporter how great it is to have the real heroes back, as opposed to “dirtbags” like Deadpool. Needless to say, Deadpool(who was watching the interview on TV)doesn't take kindly to that slight. The next day, DP books a flight to Las Vegas and confronts the casino owner. DP doesn't touch the owner, instead voices his displeasure about the dirtbag comment, and tells the owner not to push the panic button the owner had hooked up to his desk before leaving. The owner decides to push the button even though DP was on his best behavior, and half of his casino explodes... Oh that wacky Deadpool! DP decides to do some gambling(hey, he IS in Vegas!), but a cartel of angry casino owners sic Las Vegas's super-hero protector on DP, Weasel!?! Actually Weasel in a giant suit of armor and calling himself The House, but Weasel nonetheless. Weasel locks DP up in a deathtrap, which DP promptly escapes from, and after some talking, DP convinces Weasel to lend him a giant suit of armor so they could operate as co-heroes of Las Vegas. The two wind up running into c-list villain Grizzly, and this issue ends with DP getting ready to offer Grizzly a spot with him and Weasel.
What I Thought: No complaints here. I like Weasel, who has a great rapport with DP, and the scene with DP and the casino owner was pretty funny. So long as I can read a DP comic and get a few chuckles out of it, I'm a happy camper. See, simple.
Score: 8 1/2 out of 10.All right, it's Weasel! Now if they can bring back Blind Al, I'll be a happy camper... Huh, I'm really abusing the term, "happy camper" tonight, aren't I?
