Yeah, I'm doing another scan... I have a pretty massive Accounting exam tomorrow, which means I really can't spend all that much time doing the whole blogging thing tonight. A quick post here, a quick post over at the picture blog, and that's it, I'll be spending the rest of my night staring haplessly at a bunch of numbers until my eyes burn and I pass out... Sounds like a blast, right?
From Exiles #78(May 2006).
Cool, a Marvel scan! I didn't make it quite to this point in Exiles, but I'd like to finish reading the series someday. I love me some Blink...and Spidey 2099. :)
ReplyDeleteWait, you're an Exiles fan Marc?!? Awesome! I used to LOVE that series! It was great right up until the end when Chris Claremont took over and killed it...
ReplyDeleteI never did understand why Marvel never went and put Blink in the mainstream Marvel U(and I'm not talking about the Blink from the Phalanx Covenant either!).
I looooved Exiles when it first started, and it was by far my favorite comic for well over a year. But back in 2002 I stopped buying comics for a while (wow...hard to believe that was eight years ago now), and when I came back a couple of years later, the creative team on the book had changed and I sort of lost track of it. I did read some of the trades covering the stuff that I missed, but I have yet to fully catch up on it.
ReplyDeleteAnyone else anxious for when Marc has time to start his comic blog? *raises hand*
ReplyDeleteHuh, it was around 2002-2003 when I actually started reading comics again! I'd stopped for a couple of years, but stuff like Morrison's New X-Men run and Exiles got me hooked worse then ever before!
ReplyDeleteOh and of course I'd be happy to check out a comic blog put together by Marc. Without question!
Haha, thanks guys. Anyway, New X-Men was part of the reason I got back into comics as well...that and reading the solicitation for Marvel Knights Spider-Man #1 got me really pumped up and excited about the medium again.
ReplyDeleteSo I'm guessing it's safe to say you're more of a Marvel guy then a DC one, right Marc?
ReplyDeleteNah, Marc's a DC guy through and through, right Marc? PICK SIDES NOW!!! Lol jk
ReplyDeleteMy first exposure to comics was through Marvel, so I've traditionally been a Marvel guy. But these days I would say Marvel and DC interest me about the same amount...Marvel because it's the universe I grew up with and know like the back of my hand, and DC because it's a universe I know less about but I'm really enjoying learning about today.
ReplyDeleteWow scary, that's pretty much EXACTLY like me! I grew up reading Marvel comics(I wouldn't even READ a DC comic as a kid, I was that loyal to Marvel!)and when I came back to comics a few years ago I only read Marvel books, but after they just kept letting me down with lousy stories, I decided to see what DC had to offer. I picked up Peter David's Young Justice series and Brad Meltzer's Identity Crisis from eBay, and the rest is history! The majority of my collection is still Marvel books, but monthly I buy copious amounts of DC books in an attempt to learn more and more about the DCU.
ReplyDeleteFunny thing is, that's how I started too. I used to read Spiderman comics, X-Men (my favorite was Gambit) and etc. when I was younger. Then I stopped and about a year or two ago I picked up Azarello's Joker, then eventually read Identity Crisis and Long Halloween and I was hooked but I'm more of a DC guy now. Just seems like they push the envelope further. Plus I got tired of Wolverine.
ReplyDeleteWow, I would have 100% pegged you as a DC guy from the start JT! Man am I glad I never bet you on that one, cause I'd have lost big time! So I'd guess that you were more of a fan of the mainstream Marvel books, which would explain why guys like Darkhawk and Quasar are such mysteries to you!
ReplyDeleteYou know JT, I actually have the Long Halloween trade laying around... You think I should give it a read?
Haha, I Blew ya mind X! Yeah, I was more mainstream. Mainly because you gotta remember I was like 5-8 when all the good cartoons were on so I watched Spidey and X-Men alot so that was all I really knew when I started getting comics at the store.
ReplyDeleteOh definitely give it a read dude. It's a great story, not just about a main villain either but it's a hell of a mystery. It's like a really well written Batman Murder Mystery. I think you'll love it.
Jeph Loeb's mysteries are always good until you realize that he doesn't know how everything adds up any more than the reader does. I would defy even Loeb himself to coherently explain the ending of The Long Halloween.
ReplyDeleteLol I'll give you that Marc, but as stupid as it sounds I like the mystery of the ending. Even if Jeph did use it as a cop out.
ReplyDeleteI used to love that Animated X-Men cartoon that was on Saturday mornings...
ReplyDeleteDo I take it you're talking about the Red Hulk thing, Marc? I haven't read any Hulk books since Loeb took over(or before for that matter!)but I've seen a few complaints from Hulk fans about the Red Hulk stuff, and Loeb's lack of a resolution to it.
I stuck the Long Halloween trade in my bookbag earlier today, so I'll probably start it between classes tomorrow.
Nope, I've never read the Red Hulk stuff. I was talking about The Long Halloween and Dark Victory.
ReplyDeleteSo far I've read the first 10 issues of Long Halloween while waiting between classes today, and it's been pretty good... Of course I'm not up to the end yet though, which I'm dying to get to. I know who I suspect as the Holiday killer, but after reading the comments from you guys, I can't wait to get to the end to find out who it was.
ReplyDeleteGlad you liked it. It is a good story and I can't wait to see your thoughts on the ending. I know it had me wracking my brain for a few days after reading it.
ReplyDeleteI figure I should finish it off tomorrow at school, so I'll post what I thought here after it's all over.
ReplyDeleteAwesome, Long Halloween review coming. Do you have/plan on reading Dark Victory? That's the sequel to Long Halloween.
ReplyDeleteNope, I don't have Dark Victory... Next time I order from Amazon(which should be soon, I want to pick up a new set of headphones), I'll toss that in my shopping cart.
ReplyDeleteAh got ya. I liked Dark Victory too, I'm looking at it on my bookshelf right now. It's good, It wasn't as psychological as Long Halloween but it's still a pretty good read, plus It's the introduction of Dick Grayson.
ReplyDeleteI finished Long Halloween at school today, and I didn't think the ending was that bad. I thought for sure Holiday was the mobster's son(the one who was shot and fell overboard), especially since we were never shown the body. Then it turned out EVERYBODY was Holiday!
ReplyDeleteLol I'm glad you enjoyed it, but I have an annoncement... X-Man, I'm the Holiday killer DUN DUN DUNNNN!!!!
ReplyDelete"but I have an annoncement... X-Man, I'm the Holiday killer DUN DUN DUNNNN!!!!" Sure, why the hell wouldn't you be! I think everybody else was, so why shouldn't you get a chance? :-)
ReplyDeleteLol @ that reply. So I take it with all the comics you've been bombarded with I shouldn't expect a review of Long Halloween anytime soon :P
ReplyDeleteHa yeah, I def wouldn't be holding my breath, JT! I'm lucky I can find the time to do the reviews for the current books, let alone back issues! I seriously don't know how I managed to do all the Nightwing reviews I used to do back when I started this blog... I would love to review some of the MANY back issues I read over the course of the week, but I can't figure out a way to do it without using up too much time.
ReplyDeleteI vote for a Best of The Rest, quick, just a few sentences here or there and you can go through like 8 comics in one post.
ReplyDeleteSee, but that's the problem with the way I write... I have a REALLY tough time summarizing things in just a quick couple of sentences. If you look under the word, "long-winded" in the dicionary, you'd find my picture! Personally I blame school. When faced with having to write 5-8 page papers on really boring topics, I've learned to really fill my papers/posts with a lot of unnecessary words... See, I'm doing it right now!!! I can't help myself!
ReplyDeleteLol you can't help yourself eh? You know what ya do, hire a guest writer to do some reviews. I know just the guy, my buddy, The Ultimate Warrior. He'd love to do reviews for ya :P
ReplyDeleteI'd fear the reviews would look something like this:
ReplyDeleteGREEN LANTERN #52: BY WARRIOR!
SINESTRO IS TALKING, BUT IT SHOULD BE WARRIOR WHO GETS TO TALK! THEN THE MAN WITH THE GREEN RING DOES SOMETHING! THE WARRIOR NEVER NEEDED A GREEN RING TO WIN! AT THE END, SINESTRO UNCUTS APART, AND TALKS! IF WARRIOR WAS IN THAT COMIC, HE WOULDN'T HAVE CUT IN HALF! WARRIOR WOULD HAVE DEFEATED SKULL-FACE GUY JUST LIKE HE DEFEATED HOGAN! THEN THE LITTLE BLUE MAN WOULD HAVE RAISED WARRIOR'S HAND IN VICTORY! SCORE: 4,567 OUT OF 10,000!
Hmm, I'm not sure how that would work out...
Lmao @ little blue man raised my hand. Oh God you're awesome at that. That rating was also classic. Oh, how do you think Warrior would feel about Guy Gardner when he was Warrior?
ReplyDeleteHmm, let's ask him.
ReplyDeleteWarrior: GUY GARDNER THINKS HE WAS THE WARRIOR!?! THERE CAN ONLY BE ONE WARRIOR, AND THAT IS THE ULTIMATE WARRIOR!!! THE WARRIOR WAS DELIVERED DOWN FROM THE HEAVENS TO DEFEND ALL OF THE LITTLE WARRIORS AGAINST THE EVIL COSMIC NANITES THAT HAVE BEEN PLAGUING THE NATURE OF THE PEOPLE OF THE WARRIOR! AFTER THE WARRIOR FINDS THIS FAKE WARRIOR, *unintelligible gibberish* AND THAT'S HOW EVERYONE WILL COME TO KNOW THE POWER OF THE ULTIMATE WARRIOR!!!!!!
Hmm... OK, maybe it's time I stop doing that!
Lmao @ untelligeble gibberish. I'm starting to think you did write Warrior promos. Hell who else can ya do? Hogan, Rock, Austin?
ReplyDeleteI don't think I could EVER do Rock justice... He was just a frigging laugh riot. As for Hogan and Flair, all I'd do is hand them a normal promo with a bunch of "brother"'s or "Woooooo!"'s added in!
ReplyDeleteLol yeah Rock was awesome, I love his DVD set. I still gotta get the new HBK set. Oh, last week I got Summerslam 98,99,2000,2001 and 2002 for fifteen bucks on eBay.
ReplyDeleteWow, so eBay isn't just an awesome place to find comic book deals! Sweet deal there JT.
ReplyDeleteYeah, they surprisingly have other things than comics X. :P Thanks though, they were from the Summerslam anthology, but those were the main I wanted. Some of the matches are HHH/Rock Ladder match, HHH/Rock/Angle, Kane vs. Taker, the TLC match, HBK vs. HHH in 2002, Lesnar vs. The Rock. So yeah, I lucked out.
